Unfortunately pretty average

When browsing the menu I saw loads of vegan options but when I tried ordering the waiter pointed out 3 or 4 things that were available to make vegan, the rest couldn't be done vegan even though it was labelled on the menu as vegan... I had the vegan version of the pad kra pao which I thought was going to be 'minced' tofu instead of chicken but it was just a load of vegetables with cubed tofu. Flavour was very blend and overall a bit disappointing.
We also had some papaya laab cakes which were OK, but again not super great. At least those had more flavour to them than the pad kra phao.

Overall I had high expectations of Cafe Isan as they've won many awards and thought the food was pretty average. The only plus is that they serve alcohol in the JLT branch.

Oh and please watch out as the waiter also said that some of the vegetarian curries contain fish sauce! Best to check with the staff before you order anything 😅
