Excellent

What a delight to eat at Banvina yesterday. Just what we needed after a hard day. It is a jazz-focussed cafe combined with a guesthouse. Pleasant jazz/blues music playing (and they seem to sometimes have live performances). Welcoming staff. Interesting decor and furnishings. And the food - just delicious.
It's a cafe so the menu is not extensive but the veggie curry (Japanese) was really nice with a variety of salad vegetables and mixed rice. Reasonably priced at 1500yen.
And Banvina was easy to find, just one lane closer to the JR railway tracks (at ground level) than Ichibangai (mostly food) arcade, the entrance to which is only 100m from the east exit of Kagoshima-chuo station, between the JR line tracks and the city's tram tracks.
If the cafe were fully vegan it would have got a 5 rating from us.

Vegan Japanese Curry with Sakurajima Daikon

We had an overwhelmingly delicious vegan curry made with plenty of Kagoshima vegetables. We were also very satisfied to be able to try Sakurajima Daikon, the largest daikon in the world, which is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The restaurant was conveniently located near Kagoshima Chuo Station and had a comfortable atmosphere. We will definitely come back when we come to Kagoshima.
