not even sure why it's listed - Edit

Just a café, albeit famous for beignets. Nothing for vegans other than black coffee, juice, iced tea.
To answer the reviewer below, staff confirmed the beignets are fried in cottonseed oil hence okay for vegetarians.
Coffee shops with doughnuts are everywhere, no need to be listed on Happy Cow.

Pros: umm, fast service

Cons: not much choice

vegans are completely out of luck - Edit

Reports of "limited vegan options" seem greatly exaggerated.

As of April 24, 2017, this place is totally unsuitable for vegans. All I could order was black coffee or orange juice. (And the coffee was awful.). They don't even have soy milk!

I checked the beignet ingredients on the boxed beignet mix available for sale; the mix contains milk. I don't know if they use vegetable or animal fat to fry the beignets, so the beignets might not even be vegetarian.

My friend used the men's restroom and reported it was dirty.

Cons: Dirty bathrooms , Bad coffee, Touristy

Great Place To Watch The World Go By - Edit

This historic cafe in the heart of the French Quarter right across from Jackson Square and up against the River is the epitomic New Orleans hangout. It's been there for years, and is a "must visit" in the Vieux Carre.

It's open 24 hours, so, if it's busy, just come back later. The place does tend to draw a crowd. Just know that there is a take out window on the far side back by the river, but there will probably be a line there, too.

If you go here, you really want to sit down, sip some coffee, eat a beignet or two, and just do some people watching while thinking about all who have passed this way before you.

All they serve is beignets, and a variety of beverages. Try the coffee with chicory for a real, "Southern" experience. It's high-octane coffee that will fuel your walk around the area. You can get coffee and beignets at many places in the Quarter, but no place is quite Cafe du Monde.

Pros: Classic Beignets, Good Coffee, Low Prices

Cons: Almost always crowded, Can be dirty and messy, Service isn't always very quick
