Peruvian Dellght! - Edit
Who would have thought you could find a restaurant gem in a small town in the Midwest! They have a whole vegan menu that was almost totally gluten-free. We were in culinary heaven! It was happy hour, so we ordered a half vegan nachos that were a real surprise with a pico de Gallo made with tiny minced veggies and mangos. It added a tangy spiciness to the nachos. Then, we shared a vegan tamale smothered in roasted peppers in a spice soft. Finally, we split a Puca Picante, sautéed mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers in a mildly spicy sauce and tossed with potatoes. My husband had dessert-Maxamorra Morada, a hot fruit pudding sprinkled with cinnamon. Everything was delicious. I would highly recommend this charming restaurant. #Veganuary

Separate vegan menu, ask for it! - Edit
Cafe Cusco has a wonderful ambience and friendly staff, although I do feel the wait time is much longer here than other places I go to. Even Van Gogh's, a sister restaurant, is quicker than my experiences at Cafe Cusco. However, I much prefer Cafe Cusco's food and vegan menu. I recommend the black bean fajitas, the vegetable quinoa soup, and the black bean burger. Their fries are also really good, whether you pick regular or sweet potato. They have a delicious seasoning on those fries. My mouth is watering just thinking about their food. I'd say my only con (a personal preference) is a lot of the meals have mushrooms so I haven't tried much of the menu, not being a big fan of mushrooms, and they are the primary substitute for meat in these dishes. But if you enjoy mushrooms you'll have a variety of options!

Separate Vegan Menu - Edit
This was such a fun restaurant to try and was pleasantly surprised they had a separate Vegan Menu. It made it incredibly easy to order. And it wasn't just one or two items, you'll have trouble narrowing down what you should order! The food was great, definitely give it a try.

Fantastic! - Edit
The vegan menu here is extensive and the flavors were phenomenal. I ordered the tamale for an app and it was delicious and enough to share. I had the portobello tacos for dinner. They had just enough spice to make them very flavorful. My friend ordered the glass noodle dish and I got a taste of that as well. It was delicious. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

Not bad - Edit
This place has great ambiance an the staff is very friendly. The food was good . The fried guacamole was just fried sliced avocado with mango sauce . Not great . Somehow rather bland .The tamal was pretty amazing very flavorful. The mushroom escebeche was described as something different and that it was . If you don’t like or are not sure about kalamata olives I don’t suggest this . It wasn’t bad don’t think I would order again . The house made hot sauce was pretty good

Cute secluded restaurant - Edit
This is a cute secluded restaurant on Commercial with vegan menu. They have a good cocktail menu and the service is nice. There was nothing extraordinary about the menu but it was a nice moderately priced restaurant with some cultural options. Unfortunately think they are tied to Van Gogh.

Amazing Food! - Edit
We started out with Fried Guacamole, which was FANTASTIC! The mango sauce was delicious.
Read moreOur vegetarian daughter ordered the Pesto Peru without mushrooms. She said it was very rich. She had to take part of it to go.
My husband and I each had the Vegan Portobello Tacos, which were AMAZING! Spicy and delicious. A non-vegan would enjoy these and probably not realize it is not meat. The size of each taco (3 total) was good.
5-stars!

Not Impressed - Edit
It is a beautiful restaurant but the food isn’t as good. The fried guacamole was slices of fried avocado with a overly sweet salsa. The rocoto pasta was just spaghetti with only three flavor notes, spicy, salty and vinegar. The puca mushroom/pepper was overly sweet and had more potatoes than mushrooms or peppers. The potatoes were not heated through. Some were cold and some were lukewarm. All in all it did not measure up to previous experiences eating at Peruvian restaurants. I can’t see myself eating here again.

What a great experience! - Edit
I love the fact that there are enough vegan options here that they can make it into a separate vegan menu. Cafe Cusco has such a nice atmosphere. Perfect for date nights. My boyfriend and I shared the vegan tamal. It was a great starter for such a cold night. Lots of flavorful veggies and good sized portion too. I ordered the vegan puca picante. It was more sweet than spicy but still tasty. It had a nice texture and it was very hearty. My boyfriend ordered the vegan rocoto pasta. A little spicy, salty from olives and capers. Two vastly tasting dishes. Last but not least, we ordered the Mazamorra Morada. Think of it as a spiced fruit pudding. Pretty sweet... it was interesting to try.

Fantastic food, slow service - Edit
The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff was friendly. We had never experienced Peruvian food before so we had no expectations. We had the fried guacamole, it was surprisingly sweet and spicy. We also had the fritas huancaina it was absolutely fantastic! For our entrees we had the puca picante and the pesto Peru. The puca picante was also sweet and spicy. The pesto Peru was very filling and to die for! If you like pesto this is amazing! The service was very slow but the quality of the food made up for it! If you’re vegan who is horrified by things like calf heart, goat, and bunny being on the menu you’ll want to look elsewhere.

Super Vegan - Edit
Wow. Can I say it again. Wow. My wife is vegan and I like good healthy food. This place did not disappoint on either side of the table. One of the best meals we have had in a very long time. She LOVED the vegan menu. Very few places have a separate vegan menu. She did not need to substitute anything. We drove down from Kansas City and got there before 7 pm. It was getting busy by 8 on a Friday night. I would highly recommend this place. On Sunday we will drive out of our way to visit again.
