Café Bonheur saved our lives

After walking from Koyasan to Hongu on the Kohechi trail we were surprised to find this wonderful place. The meals were excellently made and very tasty. Lots of vegan choices and fantastic dessert with vegan ice cream and vegan whipped cream. Highly recommended!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Fantastic desserts, Homemade and organic food

Happy to find her!

Although she has been there for 12 years, the owner is new to Happy Cow. So please go support her! Small menu with basic lunch and snack options. Tasty! Vegan chocolate ice cream in the parfait was excellent. Rice milk available for latte. Really committed to healthy choices. Even the water she used for cooking and serving was spring water. Very friendly, minimal spoken English but English menu available. Reasonable price for lunch. Small local craft shop in front entrance. Hard to spot the restaurant from the road because signage was on side of building and not facing the street. So happy we now have a place to eat on our annual Kumano Taisha pilgrimage.

Delicious!

I highly recommend! I had the traditional Japanese set lunch and loved every dish. My companion was able to get a gluten-free meal including one of the best salads we’ve had in Japan.

Pros: Fresh ingredients creatively prepared , Kind hosts and quiet atmosphere , Lots of traditional Japanese options

Delicious

Had an amazing lunch here after a day of hiking. Fantastic way to end my hike. Food was phenomenal (especially the pickled plums) and the atmosphere was very calming. Also, had a pretty large meal for only 900 yen.

Pros: Amazing food, Relaxing atmosphere, Inexpensive

An oasis in Japan's sacred destination

If you are spiritual person, Kumano Hongu is a must go. Located in very remotes area in Kii peninsula but the vibe is completely different....
This place offers B&B, lunch and week-end dinner (reservation required for dinner) highly recommended!
