Healthy nourishing food - Edit
By Tofu has been on my bucket list since 2023 and this September I could finally go! Long awaited but worth it. I ordered the sunrise bowl, which felt quite healthy and with fresh veggies and quinoa. I didn't realise that the base was a salad, so everything was rather cold. But the tofu was warm and very flavourful. Overall, a balanced, filling meal that probably quite good for me body too? 8.5 / 10 ⭐️

ByTofu – Worth the Visit! - Edit
Had an amazing meal at ByTofu in Seoul! The egg tofu salad sandwich was so good — it even had strawberry jam in it, which surprisingly went really well with the other flavors. The tofu banh mi was also delicious, full of flavor and perfectly balanced. We finished with the bread pudding banana foster, and it was the perfect sweet ending — rich, comforting, and so tasty.

I was hoping my tofu bowl would be more cooked, as everything is pretty much uncooked or undercooked, the only thing was well prepared was baked seasoned tofu. My broccoli honestly was 99% raw, then corn kernels and quinoa are barely edible enough to enjoy it. Then there is a bottom layer of kale, not fresh, old and chewy. I had all the tofu, but did not enjoy the rest of the ingredients in my tofu bowl unfortunately. Corn & quinoa undercooked could cause indigestion. My honest experience.

I’ve visited Seoul twice since 2023 and ByTOFU is a standout vegan restaurant. Their eggless sandwich is perfection!!!!!! I highly recommend you make the visit. As others recommended, it’s best to take the bus up the windy narrow uphill.

There are many good vegan restaurants in Seoul, but by tofu is my favourite one. The outdoor seating area is very cosy, and the staff is very nice. Every meal and drink I tried was just perfect. A great location after a hike on the nearby namsan.

ByTOFU is my favorite place to eat in Seoul. I always get the same thing which is the taco bowl. It is so fresh and tasty. My husband has tried almost everything on the menu and has no complaints! An added bonus is their desserts which is normally a cookie or pound cake. Desserts are always fresh and really good! Definitely give it a try if you are in the area. We try to get there early because seating can be limited.

The price is ok, can be pricey for some people 9€ for the sandwich but I was full after eating it so it’s good enough for me👌

Not a pet shop, but a 5 star lunch - Edit
Before traveling to Seoul I did a little research on vegan restaurants and “byTOFU” was high on my list. It was at a modest walking distance from my hotel and every single item on the menu looked good. So on day 1 I went to byTOFU for lunch. South Korea’s premier navigation app “Naver” took me right to the restaurant, but I kept walking as I didn’t think the pet shop was a vegan restaurant. As it turns out: the dogs are merely a logo and what looks like a pet shop or dog groomer is in fact byTOFU.
Read moreThe items on the menu are somewhat simple, therefore byTOFU is mainly a lunch place. And during that time the restaurant is packed! During my visit, there was a queue of people waiting inside and out!
And after eating at byTOFU I understand why: the food is delicious! I ordered the “Sunrise bowl”, which seems to be a favorite amongst regulars as I saw it on many tables. It comes with a little card that explains the tofu is baked in the oven and not fried, meaning tasty but not fatty. The broccoli comes with dressing, but it is up to the customer to add some (after tasting I added all).
By tofu is an excellent example of what good vegan food is. The bowl is nutritious (tofu for protein, vegetables for iron and vitamines, vegan mayo for taste), tasty and beautifully presented. So no doubt in my mind: 5 stars!

Read moreWhen I first got there late morning I was waiting for a friend and ordered a decaf latte. The place was pretty empty, only a couple people, but within about half an hour it was completely jammed. Super popular locally, when my friend arrived we tried both the tofu salad (which was excellent, especially with that dollop of sour cream it comes with), and the famous egg salad sandwich.
Everything was really tasty and fresh. Cute place, kind staff, would definitely come again.
