We had the vegan lasagna, the vegan tagliatelle bolognese and a vegan greek side salad. Everything was absolutely delicious and had carefully selected ingredients. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff is attentive and accommodating.
Read moreThe only con is that if Valeria is not present you have to make sure that you get the vegan version, especially with the salads.
Looking forward to coming back several times during our stay in Santa Maria!

We asked the owner to recommend us some food, and it was fantastic. She served us a delicious tagliatelle Bolognese, fresh mixed salad and crispy bread with the best herb aioli I've ever had. For dessert we got a scrumptious chocolate cake and cappuccino.

Best place for vegan food on Sal - Edit
Many vegan options including vegan dessert and cake. Everything was fresh and tasty. Delicious Cappuccino with oat milk (not easy to get on the island).

The food was perfect! Valeria is very friendly and you can ask for everything. Like we get some vegan sandwiches for our flight back!

Valeria has very recently re-opened but is doing so gradually, currently only open for breakfast and lunch and with a limited menu as she trains her new team. Still a number of vegan options, mainly pastas at the moment with no vegan burgers, sandwiches or salads currently on offer.
Read moreWe went for lunch and I had the aubergine parmesan and my boyfriend had bolognese (with homemade tagliatelle), both were delicious and very generous portions. Contrary to other reviews we thought the price was very reasonable. I hope to fit in another visit before the end of our trip!

There is a huge lack of veganism in Cape Verde. Valeria herself is vegan so you can be sure that there is no contamination and the homemade plant based food is fresh and tasty.

Super friendly people running this restaurant. We ate there two times and it was always delicious. Once i had the vegan lasagna which had cashew cheese and the second time the Rainbow salad :)

When you see a man with six Dachshunds at the vegan-friendly restaurant that you’ve just happened upon, you know it’s going to be a good day (seriously #goals).
Read more‘By Valeria’ is located a short walk out of the main touristy area of Santa Maria and is a hot spot for locals and for holiday reps grabbing lunch on their day off. It’s a beaut of a restaurant, with a comfortable, shaded outdoor seating area, colourful decor and friendly service.
The menu is a mix of non-vegan and vegan options including sandwiches, burgers, salads and smoothies.
I opted for the chickpea burger which was served in a seeded bun, with caramelised onion chutney, chips and sides of guacamole, vegan mayo and ketchup. It was absolutely packed with flavour and was truly delicious - it was blinking handsome!
I also had a tangy fruit smoothie with my lunch, which I asked the waitress to ‘surprise me’ with (minus dairy). I can’t tell you what was in it but I can tell you that it was refreshing, fruity and very tasty!

Wonderful vegan burger. The waiter called Lara understand veganism and can explain how the dishes are prepared. The location on the map in happy cow is not very good. But it's on the opposite site of the big street from the big beach resorts (Hilton and the like). Very flexible kitchen and waiters. Only con is that they get a bit stressed out when they are busy.

I've been there 3 times because they have a really good vegan burger, spaghetti bolognese, lasagne and cappuccino with soymilk! And perhaps I'll go again and try the vegan sandwich. The staff is very friendly and it was so good to find a place where people understand what vegan means.

I went twice while on Sal; the first time I had the vegan burger, and the second time the vegan bolognese. They were both delicious and freshly prepared. A main dish and a drink cost around 1000 escudos. The staff are friendly and speak English and Italian.

We went there twice one day simply because out of all the options on the island: this is the best one. However, the quality of the food and the service is so good this restaurant would probably do well anywhere. Nice people, and as they make the vegan food on the spot: it doesn't get fresher! Try the vegan burger or the club sandwich, or the lasagne.. It's worth the wait.
