Bunders Never Cease

My adoration for this small Indian street food chain has blossomed over the years. Initially rather unmoved by my first experience when they opened in Manchester, I have steadily warmed to their offerings and can now firmly be counted among the converts. Having been absent from their presence for a number of years, I was keen to reacquaint myself at this, until now, unexplored location.
The atmosphere was every bit as relaxed, welcoming and friendly as its sister restaurant down the road, staffed by an equally amiable team who struck the perfect balance between attentiveness and letting you get on with enjoying your meal.
As has become painfully obvious over the years, my ability to exercise restraint when confronted with a menu bursting with titillating options - particularly where Indian cuisine is concerned - is, at best, woeful. Unsurprisingly, what I would describe as a ‘strong number of dishes’ soon found their way to my table.
Thankfully, my enthusiasm was fully justified. Everything was at least as good as I remembered, if not even better. I’m not usually one for corn ribs, but the Masala Makai version here was near irresistible, beautifully charred and packed with spice. The okra fries and onion bhajis were exercises in deep-fried decadence, the chole was rich, hearty and beautifully balanced, while the bhel puri brought freshness and crunch in equal measure. Both the puri and bhatura were exquisite, equally adept at mopping up the remnants of the curries or simply being devoured in their own right. The creamy, delicate Bundo Chaat, however, comfortably stole the show and was the standout dish of an exceptionally strong meal.
My only minor criticism was that the tarka dhal felt just a touch under-seasoned, but when that’s the biggest complaint after ordering half the menu, things are clearly going rather well.
On the drinks front, alcoholic alternatives seemed to be the order of the day. In lieu of a chai latte, I opted for a chai stout. Instead of a lemonade, I chose a radler. In place of not having an IPA, I went for an IPA. Sound reasoning, I think you’ll agree, although it did leave me not a little squiffy.
Those beverages definitely didn’t cloud my judgement and I genuinely think this chain has stepped its game up another level. What was once somewhere I merely appreciated has become somewhere I actively seek out. This visit only strengthened that opinion and, the next time I’m anywhere near the area, I’ll be making a very deliberate return.

Great new menu

They’ve changed the menu so tried a few dishes which never disappoint! Mango lassi beer was so good. Booked through first table so got 50% off all food as well!

Loads of vegan options & delicious beer

A mostly vegan menu, really amazing flavours and some delicious beer (we went for two beer flights to try as many as we could, would recommend!).

Food was great and flavourful, with lots of choice. We did also order a couple of non vegan options (one of the party was vegetarian), and they weren't anywhere near as good as the vegan options.

Best dishes were the bhel puri, the raghda pethis and the okra fries, don't miss them!

Two stop weekend

I visited this branch of Bundobust twice within 24 hours. First night I shared a vegan combo with an omnivore friend. I particularly loved the Bhel Poori and Okra Fries, although all six plates were delicious. As I had a 20% discount voucher, I stopped by next afternoon to get Vada Pav, which you need to ask for it to be vegan as it is usually served with a buttered bread roll. I couldn’t resist some more Okra Fries on the side. The beer, which is vegan, is also good!

Always excellent

I've been a couple of times by myself during the day, and have never felt odd for eating by myself at all. Great menu which is delicious, the staff are helpful and the atmosphere is relaxed. The one in Leeds is great too!

Pros: Delicious food, Plenty of options, Both alcoholic and Non-alcoholic drinks

Very good food!

I love that everything is vegetarian but I do wish there were more authentic vegetarian options as Indian food is very vegetarian friendly.

Tasty Indian street food

Bundobust is a real treat if you like Indian street food & good beer. Their menu is 100% vegetarian with lots of clearly marked vegan choices. I visited midweek and it had a relaxed vibe, though according to some reports it may be louder at weekends. You must try the okra fries - they are a revelation! The vada pav is really good too but be sure to specify that you want it vegan!

Pros: Good food, Good beer, Good times

Too loud, too pricey, food just above average

OK, the food is v quick and isn't at all bad, but it's pretty expensive. The beer is abundant, but the music IS SO LOUD IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TALK. I can see why people give this 5 stars, but for me... too salty, uncomfortable and not a place to relax.

Pros: Quick service, Lots of vegan options, A lot of beers

Cons: Stressed staff, MUSIC SO LOUD IT'LL TAKE YOUR HAIR OFF, Pretty expensive

Booked here before going to a gig for a couple of beers and food. Very impressed with the number of vegan options with some of them vegan on request. Loved the vada pav and okra fries. Massive selection of beers clearly labeled vegan. Would definitely come here again.

Pros: Simple and quick ordering , Good beer , Tasty food

A M A Z I N G ! ! !

I’ve been going there for over 5 years and must’ve visited over 30 times! One of the best veggie/vegan eateries in Manchester. Although it’s not exclusively vegan, there is a load of brilliant vegan dishes - all with fantastic taste.

The okra fries are at the top of my list and I’d also add the Bhel puri but in truth, it’s all brilliant.

Whoever I take with me to bundobust, loves it, irrespective of their food preference. It’s simply wonderful. To add to the food there’s a cool vibe and a great range of home-brewed beers.

Pros: Very very tasty dishes, Great range of beers, Cool vibe

Fabulous place

We have visited the "other" Bundobust in Manchester (below Max Spielmann on Piccadilly gardens), the one in Leeds and the one in Liverpool. A trip to Manchester is not the same without a trip to Bundobust.
We were catching a train back home from Oxford Road (which is a few minutes walk away, lots of buses stop close too) - we decided in advance what to order (menus are on-line), so order at the bar as soon as we arrived, and it was brought to us very quickly and was hot and tasty as always. We had also let them know we would have luggage and children so we were given low seats and at the back so our cases and bags didn't get in the way.
My son loves the Tarka Dahl and I love the Okra fries which are a bit different and very more-ish.
I would prefer if they used washable dishes (more due to the waste) but this is a minor point. We didn't try the beer as catching umpteen trains requires a clear head, but there's plenty of choice. Vegan items are clearly marked on the menu, and there is more than enough choice (some items are veggie).
We will definitely be visiting again when we visit. Just got to try the one in Birmingham now!

Pros: delicious food, very quick service, good choice for vegans

Cons: single-use serving dishes

Amazing food

We had the vegan sharing meal, so much food! We ordered a rice and a bread, we didn’t need to. One of the dishes comes with bread and the rice didn’t add anything to the meal and wasn’t needed. What we had could easily have served 3. Great selection of beers too and a really nice atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Pros: Okra fries , Dahl, Beer

Cons: It was a lot of food so order wisely!

Great food, great location

We had lunch here over a weekend. We had the tarka dhal, ragdha pethis and okra fries. Everything was absolutely delicious - the okra fries were probably a bit of an over order but they were amazingly crispy and well flavoured.
Great service, really buzzy atmosphere and great music too.
Highly recommended.

Pros: Location, Great food, Great atmosphere

Bollywood or Bust

After trying the one in Leeds my friends brought me to this one, we had the same things except for the drinks. The vegan set for 2 & the dahl were enough for the 3 of us. If I was still in Manchester this would be a regular place for me.

Pros: Great vegan options, nice interior

Cons: Not fully vegan

Fantastic

We loved the 6 dishes we chose between the 2 of us and loved the concept of having their own brewed beers to go with it, all clearly marked if vegan on the chalkboard. The spice levels in the food were great. We chose 3 from the usual menu and 3 from the Indo Chinese menu. It is a vegetarian place, so all the vegan options are labelled clearly and plenty to choose from. Really good tasty food, all bowls scraped clean and just enough to fill us. The okra fries are amazing, as was the tofu Indo Chinese dish. Exceptional cocktails to finish the meal off after a couple of beers. It's a really great place. No photos as we were too busy enjoying the food. The staff were super friendly and kept everything going with such a flow of people coming in.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Tasty Inventive fun food, Friendly staff

Lots of choice

Great flavours and a vast menu! My fave was the tarka dahl and I love the bhajis! The food is great although it’s a little expensive - maybe £1-2 per dish too much. It’s great to get a couple at least though so you try everything, so maybe go for a combo.

I went when they had the October menu and everything was delicious! Check the prices on some of the 'deals' though - the October one was only £1 cheaper than buying it all seperately.

Really tasty dishes

There's something for everyone here! Not everything is vegan, but the majority is so it's hard to pick just a few dishes! The okra chips are particularly amazing! There's also a huge selection of beers to accompany your meal. Really recommend this place and the service was great! You can order from your table too, so you can be as lazy as you like 😜

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Good beer selection , Good service

Cons: Communal seating (if that's your thing!)
