My favourite

Open & friedly venue, not pretentious at all. Such a wide variety of options to choose from. Absolutely everything we have ever ordered has been delicious and a decent/generous size. Very reasonably priced. We regularly attend this venue, as it's never let us down. Want to start using their delivery service!

Pros: Large, friendly venue, good for groups or solo., Excellent variety of foods., Very reasonable prices.

Cons: Can sometimes get quite loud (groups celebrating).

delicious

I love everything here, even things I am not meant to eat. The people are so darling, the service is impeccable, the choices are wide ranging, the menu is beautifully annotated and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the katsu duck: for non-coeliacs, the fried rices and the laksa, of course.

Pros: the food, the service

Cons: reservoir is too far for delivery

top vegan eatery

I’m a fan of anything in a bowl and the Pho was outstanding with mushrooms and tofu. Prices won’t break the bank. It gets busy here but all staff are on top of it with a never ending smile. You have to try this place at least once, but if you do you will be back for more. HUGE range to choose from, from Southern Fried Chicken to rice paper rolls

Pros: lots of seating,, great cheap vegan food, awesome staff

Cons: I can’t make it everyday

Nice pastries

I got some pies and sausage rolls. They were pretty nice and very cheap. I particularly liked that they had semi-cooked cold ones which I bought a ton of to stick in my oven at home.

Pros: Cheap, Tasty, Ready-made food to take home

Cons: Sooo far from my house

My first vegetarian/vegan restaurant

I absolutely loved what I ordered. It was a beautiful rice dish with tofu. For entree we had spring rolls made of sweet potato. Can't wait to go back and try something else.

yum

Came here fora birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised. A wide range of choice as well as being really high quality. Meat eaters wouldn't have known it wasn't real meat if we hadn't said anything

Pros: good fake meat, lots of choice

Cons: can be a touch expensive

loving hut is awesome!

we tried this Loving Hut for the first time and we're very happy with it! it's really gluten free friendly (except no gf desserts other than ice cream), inexpensive, good service, nice atmosphere and the food tasted great~ the portions were a bit larger than we expected and we struggled to finish everything so we couldn't try any desserts but at least its great value!

Pros: all vegan, well priced, lots of variety

indulgence!

Based on recommendations and after drooling over their menu online, I was really looking forward to eating here. Loving Hut in Northcote fulfilled all of my expectations of greasy, tasty, mock indulgence. The only slight disappointment was the decor - looking at the images on their website, I expected a more cosy date destination. It's the classic Loving Hut layout, in fact, with trademark yellow walls, plastic chairs and tables, and it's BIG. It does somewhat resemble a high school cafeteria, with slightly better lighting.

The food though! We ordered the crumbed, mock prawns as an entree. I didn't like them. I should stay away from mock seafood. They just taste rubbery and weird to me. We shared the katsu duck and lemongrass stirfry with tofu as mains. The stirfry was crunchy, with a good variety of veg, and fragrant lemongrass sauce. It wasn't a fancy dish but some fresh veg were necessary to balance out the deepfried crunch of the katsu. SO. GOOD. The succulent, fake duck is coated in quite a thick layer of crunchy batter, served sizzling in sweet, spicy, plum sauce. Looking forward to going back to try some other dishes - "Bam Bam" is top of my list.

Very fatty

I was really excited to visit loving hut, because everyone loves it. Sadly I can't join the hype. The food was really fatty and not healthy at all. I expected something different.
But the staff was super friendly and oh my gosh you have to try their salted caramel ice cream!

Pros: Nice staff, Yummy ice cream

Cons: very fatty, not healthy, where are the greens and veggies?

Excellent.

I've eaten at many Loving Huts around the world. This is one of the best.

As usual for a Loving Hut, the menu is largely Pan Asian gluten/soy meat analogue mains (chicken, fish, beef, prawns, fish, duck, etc.) and also plenty of noodle dishes, soups, lahksas, to boot.

There are options for onion- and garlic-free and gluten-free dishes clearly marked on the menu, and staff are able to help and suggest.

The entrees are small and the desserts are very sweet and rich, with ice cream, cakes, tiramisu, tarts to choose from. The cakes are often highly intricate, multi-flavoured cheesecakes with grated chocolate or embedded fruit in the icing.

The restaurant is very large, spacious and well seated. It's often near full but I've never had to wait for a seat, even on a Saturday night.

The staff are friendly, cheerful and polite. No matter how packed it is the service is always good and the meals always properly prepared.

I suggest the southern fried chicken (or the spicy version, 'The Volcano'), the Singapore noodle, the bam-bam or .. actually it's all good.

(Tip - the tarts, slices, takeaway pies are from La Panella at the northern end of High St. Also check them out.)

Pros: Great food, Great range, Great staff

Cons: I often overeat, The TV playing the same episode of the, Batman cartoon for six months now.

Vegan Nirvana!

Love Loving Hut! Vast menu and everything is vegan.

With a distinctively Asian influence, the menu is vast and features such items as crumbed 'prawns', sizzling dishes (a novelty for vegans), and salt and pepper tofu. The most difficult dilemma is - what to order! Then there the desserts such as ice cream in a waffle cone, caramel slice, jelly pudding, hedgehog. Just make sure you leave room.

Service is welcoming and friendly. Tables are nicely spaced to enable conversations to be heard at your table. It was busy when we were there in the middle of the week.

You can also stock up your freezer or pantry with the takeaway foods for you and your fur-kids.

Pros: Reasonably priced, Consistently great food, All vegan!

Best vegan takeout I ever had

The winners are rice paper rolls with basil dipping sauce, fried 'chicken' with chipotle aioli and lemongrass stir-fry. Would eat this every week if I could. This place has win written all over it.

Pros: Delivery, Good variety, Can order delivery online

Cons: Lack of dessert items

Takeaway heaven

Discovered this gem through HappyCow and boy am I glad! They do takeaway so I've called up and picked food up in store twice. Great service and food at a very reasonable price.

My friend had the laksa and loved it. I got a serve of the sweet potato spring rolls (delicious!) and the southern fried chicken. This latter dish has become my addiction, I had to get it again a few days later for lunch. So good, highly recommend!

The Best

I can't praise this place enough!

Amazing food and super friendly staff. I eat there at least once a week. Prices are very reasonable. There is a mix of vegetable dishes and mock meat which a choice for most mains.

I have eaten a number of Loving Huts both in Australia and overseas and this one is hands down the best. Even my wife who isn't a vegan loves the place and is happy to eat there as often as I am.

Menu highlights for me are the laksa, broken rice, pho and and steamed rice rolls. Lunch time banh mis are pretty tasty too.

Pros: Food, Service, Prices

The best Loving Hut I've been to

This new and spacious Loving Hut has great friendly service, it's run by some very smiley young people. It's always nice to be served by folks who seem like they genuinely want to be there! The menu has a lot of Vietnamese food, and a variety of other Asian and Western dishes. Some of the yummiest things to try are the Pad Thai, Curry Laksa, Pho (great to find a vegan version of this!) and Crispy Tempeh. Ordering tip - if you don't like mock meats, you can ask for them to be replaced with tofu in most dishes. Excellent desserts and drinks too! They also have a mini grocery with all kinds of vegan products, such as dumplings and mock meats, and I buy pet food here for when I'm dog-sitting (Vegan-Pet).

Pros: quality vegan Vietnamese & international, friendly and attentive service , variety and yummy desserts!

High quality, clean eating

Since opening in early 2014, the menu has grown extensively and continues to do so. While the restaurant is open for dinner only, it is worth coming along and trying out some of their dishes. Far higher quality meals than other Loving Huts. Lots of healthy options also such as the Shroom Stir Fry, Rice Paper Rolls, Vegan Sushi and so forth. The best meal is the Southern Fried 'Chicken', which is simply amazing. The salt and pepper tofu, spring rolls and rice crackers are also amazing. This place should be supported by the local vegan community a lot more. It's clean, its very reasonably priced and it has an excellent range of meal options.

Pros: Super cheap, Healthy or indulgent meals available, Variety

Cons: Not open for lunch
