A Tad Tasteless

It’s great that there’s a large, fully vegan restaurant in the centre of Northcote. Far more authentic, tasty, less noodle-sodden (and cheaper!) soups can be found at Vegan 365, where you don’t have to pay a cool $18 to get both veggies *and* protein in your meal. I’m always pretty disappointed when I dine here, and generally wouldn’t do so unless in a group already intending to do so.

Pros: vegan, large space, great location

Cons: made for the Anglo tastebud, relatively pricey, quite stodgy, negligible veggies

Delightful!

Picked up a weekend feast from here. Faux chicken, spring rolls, thai green curry and poutine. Everything was great from value to taste! I want to try everything on the menu now. It’s all vegan too! 💚👌🏻

Pros: All vegan, Extensive menu, Value

Overpriced, was better as Loving Hut

Tried it twice since it changed from Loving Hut. Food is OK (was better before the rebranding) but servings are too small for what you pay. I ordered Pad Thai for $18 takeaway. This is a basic dish so should either be cheaper or a bigger serve. The size was half a normal portion for a main. Should be $10 as it's entree size. If you don't mind OK food that is overpriced then it's not too bad. Plenty of other options around with better value.

Pros: Vegan, Food is ok

Cons: Overpriced, Wrong Ambience (e.g. playing hard rock) , Small portions

New name, same great food

Brother Bon recently broke away from the Loving Hut group so they could do things a bit differently. They now have a breakfast menu and some different types of cuisine on offer: burgers and comfort food traditional dishes. However many of the old faves that people would remember from Loving Hut are still there. The food remains tasty and the new stuff is great!

Pros: Great additions to the menu, Some old faves remain , Friendly service

Cons: Some dishes are over priced , No liquor licence yet (although they applying), Food comes out one dish at time. Frustrating!

All better now maybe

March 2020: Not as impressed this visit, we had the vegetable dumplings that were smaller and oilier than expected, still quite a nice flavour though. We also had the Satay skewers which were well presented, but lacked flavour, the rice paper rolls which were okay, but not great, and the Japanese curry which needs work. All dishes were overpriced and I would lower my rating to 3.5 if happycow allowed. Will still return though as the potential is definitely there and the business is worthy. The service and venue are now better than many other places.

Feb 22nd 2020 (reopening week) : Great to see Brother Bon busier than I ever saw Loving Hut. The menu has definitely improved, containing a lot more variety, while still very much based on the previous menu. The service was very good, especially considering how busy they were.
We had the mushroom bao (very good), Satay udon (good, could have had more spice) and the Aussie burger which while not suited to me, will no doubt be popular.
The space is also vastly improved (long overdue).
Keen to come back to explore more of the menu.

Previously (as Loving Hut)

Hours are very restrictive, which is great for the surrounding businesses.
The very large space and unused pizza ovens seem wasted. Were this business to put some effort into varying the menu, using the pizza ovens and bain marie's (curry and rice deals, pasta, stir frys, salads etc), they could do some serious trade.
–––––––
Large asian inspired dine in menu as well as take aways including La Panella pies, pasties and sausage rolls; rice paper rolls, sushi and slices and very well priced and decent Banh mi. They often also have very good prices on Vegan dog food (when in stock) as well as faux products in the freezers near the front.
2nd best Laksa in Melbourne (Vegie bowl is hard to beat in that respect)

Pros: Vegan

Cons: Unused pizza ovens :p

The new menu is fantastic and the food is great. The banana blossom “fish” & chips was epic! Can’t wait to go back and try more of the new menu items.

They’ve really upped their game

This place has improved so much over the last couple of years - the standard of food is now quite impressive for the price. The bao entrees are superb and the desserts to die for! Congrats to the chefs/owners for making such incredible food!

Pros: Bao entrees, Sago dessert, Value for money

Cons: The space is big and not very cosy

I 💚 Loving Hut!

Friendly atmosphere with lovely staff. Great for large groups. Love the lemon chicken, nasi goreng and the mango sago pudding is delicious! Treats at the counter from La Panella to take home too!

Pros: Everything’s fresh and generous portions, Classic faves with so many options, The range of sweet treats is dangerously good

Cons: The laksa could be spicier, still good but

loving loving hut

Yummy food, nice decor, friendly staff, aircon, gluten free options, 2 raw salads, gorgeous ice cream and its clean and well maintained. Went again 11/9, there is no kale salad anymore. The new waitress who started 11/9 got my order wrong I think she needs replacing.

Pros: Gluten free options , Nice rainbow salad, comfy chairs , Big tables available for large groups

Cons: waitress started 11/9 needs needs firing , Used to have kale salad , Pineapple rice too spicy

I’m Loving Hut food

First time trying Loving Hut, was Avery positive experience. The food was very tasty with many Vegan options, we had Fried Chicken & Singapore noodles. The portion sizing was generous, it was prepared very quickly which was great because we were hungry. The bill was reasonable. Will be back👍🌱

Pros: Many affordable tasty Vegan options , Generous food sizes, Reasonable pricing good value

Cons: No Alcohol , Parking limited outside

One of the best vegan restaurants in Melbourne

It's been a long time since I ate here, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was now even more of a selection available, on a clear and well-presented menu. The staff were polite and helpful, and did a good job of taking everyone's order. I normally prefer the Asian dishes here and the one I chose was tasty and quite a generous serving.

Pros: Wide variety of dishes available, Location; it's a big restaurant and easy to find, Friendly staff

V bland

Very expensive for what it was. Dumplings were good to start, then ordered the basil and chill tofu rice. I wish we'd had some soy sauce or chilli oil or just ANYTHING on the table to provide some flavour it was so bland. Hardly any veg on it, it was just a plate of oily rice with chopped tofu stirred through?? Katsu fries... what can I say it was $10.50 for a tiny basket, smallest portion of chips I've ever seen and next to no sauce (seriously I'd be surprised if it was 1 tbsp). 2 stars because this place is vegan but I will never go back

Pros: Good service

Cons: Price , Portion , Taste... there was none

Great Experience!

Very basic restaurant but serves DELICIOUS vegan food! Good service, there are takeout containers readily available at the counter if you can't finish the food ordered. There are pastries such as croissant, donuts, creams buns etc which were selling out pretty quickly! I tried their cream bun which cost me $3.5 and it was delicious!!

Standard Loving Hut Experience

Loving Hut is always an oasis for me as a vegan traveller. This one is very spacious and the service was friendly. I had the Phone with chicken which was really good. Good selection of sweet treats here too like custard and jam donuts. Very yum.
