Horrible service

My husband and I wanted to try this place because they had several vegan options. We sat out on the patio because it was nice outside.
I ordered the hoisin tofu bon me and my husband ordered the Tempe Ruben sandwich. The server mentioned that they were out of the dikon radish for my sandwich, which I was okay with. When the food came there was no other vegetables, it was supposed to have cucumbers, carrots, Thai basil and cilantro. My husband didn’t get what he ordered. The Tempe Ruben ended up being the Tempe BBQ sandwich.

The service was even worse. Once our food came we never got checked on and waited about 15 minutes. We ended up going in to pay. We noticed that she was looking out at us at she was talking to a table of guys inside the restaurant. When we were paying for our food she seemed to be more friendly to them than any attention she gave us. She was laughing and showing them stuff on her phone. I told my husband not to bother with a tip but he tipped anyway.

I am sure this is a great place to eat and my husband liked his food even it was not what he ordered. My food would have been better if it had the veggies to go with it. It was our server that made our experience bad. It was like she knew she messed up on our order and didn’t want to deal with the mess up.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Bad service , Didn’t get what we ordered

Great vegan options!

UPDATE! Unfortunately the pandemic has caused a lot of restaurants to struggle, BTBS has reduced their menu and removed the vegan options. Can still modify a couple of items, but sad that the truly vegan options were the items removed. Hope it’s just temporary.

Nice place with lots of indoor & outdoor seating. Several clearly marked vegan options and some items can be easily veganized.
We enjoyed the Mushroom Philly Dip (minus-Provolone) & the Hoisin Tofu Bahn Mi Sandwich along with some tasty adult beverages. Delish!

Mushroom Philly Dip!!

I had the Mushroom Philly Dip and it was fantastic! I’ve been craving it ever since. I want to try other things on their menu but I don’t know if I can resist not getting the Philly Dip every time! Everything about it was good, the bread, the way the mushrooms were seasoned, and the dip. Phenomenal!!

Pros: Excellent food,, good atmosphere, , open late.

Cons: A little spendy.

Great tempeh BLT

They have a few Vegan things. Love the Vegan tempeh BLT. I get it on Vegan bun instead of baguette. Staff is never friendly or smiling but food is the focus & it is good. There is a large table in back that can be reserved but that room is usually cold.

Pros: Smoked tempeh so good!, Ed’s bread options which are Vegan, Outdoor seating

Cons: Said it came w/side then charged extra for side, Usually cold inside, A bit pricey. Staff never friendly.

This place really deserves 5 stars. Delicious food!

Husband (omnivore) & I (vegan) were vacationing in Bend & I was searching for a restaurant that serves more then your standard vegan items (veggie burger or salad). They offered a nice variety of vegan options! I felt like I hit the jackpot! I had the Hoisin Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich, which was fabulous! I enjoyed it so much that we ate there again on our way out of town, 2 days later.
Husband really enjoyed his burger.
I look forward to our next trip to Bend & eating here again.
OH SO DELICIOUS!!

Pros: Lots of delicious vegan options., Very friendly & helpful servers., Chef Ingrid is friendly & very creative.

Comfort food done RIGHT

The mushroom philly dip is mind blowing!! I’ve gone back like three times to get this one dish because the flavors are on point in every way.

The restaurant itself is a cool, counter service spot with endless beer options. I’ve seen some comments about the price and I think it’s actually pretty fairly priced. I think they pay their employees a fair wage - not to mention, Bend isn’t a cheap place in general : )

Good food and friendly

Herbivore menu FTW. SO good, we ate here twice in three days. The servers are knowledgeable and the vegan.plugins are clearly marked. The cole slaw is even vegan. Everything we tried was Amazing. The ginger CBD beverage was so tasty.
Oh, and the vegan ice cream sandwich is the best thing my husband has ever eaten! (So he says)

Pros: Herbivore menu section, knowledgeable staff, vegan options marked

Cons: little spendy (13.00 sandwiches)

great comfort food option!

I ate the BBQ tempeh sandwich and the chocolate chip ice cream sandwich. Both were amazing, comfort food options. My husband had the cauliflower shawarma wrap and he enjoyed it, but we both agreed the BBQ sandwich was the best. I shared the dessert with the table, and even the meat eaters were impressed.

Pros: dessert was amazing!, comfort food, tons of beer options

Good, but vegan is not vegan

Nice restaurant for relaxed meal. Counter order, they bring it to you. Good beer selection. Several items on the menu are labeled (v) which menu states is vegan, but many of those options included dairy cheese, non-vegan bread, etc. make sure you ask if vegan.

Pros: good selection of vegan and vegetarian options. , good food, good beer selection

Cons: expensive, vegan choices are not necessarily vegan

Great Place with Local Vibe

Located at the bottom of the hill from the community college, this is a good place if you have friends who range from meat eaters to vegans because there's something for everyone. It's also a good place if you dine alone with seating at the bar. Inside, there's a wall refrigerator with ales to kombucha to choose from. There's indoor/outdoor seating. The vibe is very laid-back relaxed which I really liked. Their menu options are limited, but sufficient. Price was okay. We had the vegan dip sandwich, black bean soup & buffalo soy curl slider. We liked the dip sandwich and the slider. The soup was very heavy and bland. It had cilantro as a garnish, but it would've been better if it was either throughout or seasoned differently. The cup of soup was $5 which was a bit steep, too. Service was great. They feature local bands & brews, so it's a great place to give someone a feel of Bend. We would go back.

Pros: good vibe, good sandwiches/vegan options

Cons: pricey soup

Great resto!

I never know what to expect from the kitchen of restos focusing on beer. However, I was thrilled with my meal. So much so, that we came back the same day for another meal! They have plenty of vegan options, or easily veganizable dishes. They were also amenable to changing a sandwich into a salad. Stick their tempeh reuben fixings on top of their house salad and you have a fabulous meal! The tamale pie was also very good. Great selection of beers, too.

Pros: open to modifications, beer selection, tasty

Best Vegan Food in Bend, OR

Broken Top Bottle Shop & Ale Cafe is a welcome addition to the Bend, Oregon dining scene for those looking for awesome vegan options.
They always have vegetarian and vegan option's on their menu and on there daily specials they always have one or more specials that are vegetarian or vegan.
Even some of their standard items are made vegan. for example their mashed potatoes are vegan and served with a vegan mushroom gravy. They have many vegan condiment options such as veganiase and garlic tahini salad dressing.
Some of my favorite items are a Portabella Mushroom French Dip Sandwich, Vegan Club Sandwich, Vegan Nacho's, Vegan Falafel Wrap and various vegan sliders such a beet slider or mashed potato tempeh slider.
They even have an awesome chocolate vegan gelato dessert.

Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Staff, Options
