Good Vegan Pub Food - Edit

Their menu has a section on it which offers traditional pub food that is all vegetarian/vegan. We had steakless ale pie with mash, peas, broccoli and gravy; vegetable wellington with chips, peas, broccoli and gravy; treacle sponge with vegan custard and lemon cheesecake. The service was fast and friendly and the portion sizes were good. There is a large seating area dedicated to food at the rear. The front rooms have a typical city pub atmosphere. The food was very tasty - broccoli was a bit undercooked and the mash had obviously been kept warm as it was a bit dry in places - but other than that we enjoyed everything we ate. Prices are reasonable too.

Unfortunately the current owners are leaving at the end of September. The new proprietors have said that they will keep offering vegan options as they are so popular. Apparently nearly 50% of weektime food sales are vegan! Fingers crossed that the vegan menu doesn't disappear.

Pros: Nice dessert options, Good choice of traditional pub food, Reasonably priced

Cons: Current owners leaving soon

Excellent fayre - Edit

I went with my vegetarian girlfriend to have lunch here and was very satisfied by the food on offer. There is a veggie/vegan section to the menu with soya fish and chips, 5 bean chilli, enchiladas, tarte tatin etc. service was very friendly and attentive. We sat at the back of a charming covered section that overlooks the grassy pic nic table garden and busy bowling green. An unexpected but very welcome local treat. Will definitely be returning.

Pros: Reasonable prices, Large helping (pizza), Nice setting, large pub

Cons: Not many options on menu
