The burgers and sandwiches offered here are delicious! Usually most vegan burgers disappoint me, but in this place the flavour is just perfect, they understand how to combine the ingredients in the best way.

Definitely can give lots of howls for this very original vegan soul kitchen in Newark. Many lonely vegan travelers can rest assured that their prayers were answered when the cool soul kitchen Brick City angel chefs met to bring this heavenly mix of fast casual Southern soul menu of favorites like vegan Chicken, biscuit buns, gravy, black eyed peas, Cookies, ice tea & lots more to fruition. Absolutely amazing food!! Great variety with everything made to order (excellent service) and a super cute atmosphere. We were just passing through Newark and are so glad we chose to stop here! We tried a wide variety including bowls, burgers, biscuits and the cookies - everything was fantastic!

I came here with my partner and my brother who is autistic and due to this is very particular about his food. At first he was hesitant but the employees were super accommodating and helped him order something that he was confortable with (california burger without the lettuce) and he ended up ordering another one he liked it so much!! my partner and I ordered the black eyed pea burger and the sweet potato burger with a side of the slaw, both were delicious. between the great customer service and the delicious food, we will def be back again :)

Perhaps the best vegan cheese steak I have ever had... - Edit
So, I had the vegan cheesesteak. It was delicious. Perhaps the only one that may have been better was the cheese steak at Blackbird's in Philly (they don't exist anymore). The sweet potato fries were good as was the coconut/lime smoothy. The chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie was soft and delicious.
Read moreMy family had the bbq pulled 'pork' on a biscuit and the 'chicken' sandwich, both of them enjoyed the sandwich. Again, I was told the bbq pork may have been the best she had.
I am not happy that I usually am nowhere near Newark, since I don't live anywhere near there. However, I may have to go up there one more time when I have to go pick up my daughter at the airport.
Pros: Great tasting food, prices are fair

OMG haven't eaten biscuits in years and these are better then any I remember. Big portion sizes and great friendly and knowledgeable staff about their food. Be sure to go if you ever visit the prudential center in Newark. Right around the block. You won't be disappointed

Today we had a feast at Brick City Vegan!! Formerly known as Urban Vegan, this Newark- based fast-casual restaurant recently rebranded with a new name and updated menu. They have a variety of burgers including a housemade chickpea burger and housemade black eyed pea burger in addition to beyond meat. They also offer bowls with unique ingredients that you can’t get everywhere like bbq pulled oats, stewed black eyed peas, and black rice.

Pictured are a bowl with chickpeas, black rice, quinoa and veggies (probably my favorite thing), a black eyed pea burger, a California burger 🍔 with a Beyond Meat patty in it, biscuits, salad, and a chocolate chip cookie. I also had a lovely hibiscus tea 🌺 and Chris had a banana-strawberry smoothie.
The staff was gracious and we really enjoyed our visit. So happy to have this spot in downtown Newark!

The pulled BBQ biscuit is absolutely incredible! Chicken sandwich is just a perfect easy lunch, tons of flavor and the consistency of the vegan chicken is some of the best I've had.

Read moreWe got two bowls, one of them with chickpea and black rice, and the other one with the barbecue oats, which doesn’t sound like it would be good, but it is totally delicious. How they create such a meaty texture from oats is beyond me, but the barbecue is delicious. I also got one of the biscuits and I swear that is the best biscuit I’ve ever had in my entire life: Soft and moist and flavorful, we were only passing through New Jersey, but it is something I will crave for the rest of my life.
And one last thing, I was really touched because the guy behind the counter, who took my order, came out to give me my bag to go. I gave him a five dollar bill as a tip, and I noticed that he turned to the kitchen showed it to them and put it in the mutual tip jar. Seriously good vibes and good food here.

Love it. I’ve been here many times and the food is always great. I’ve also brought here several non-vegan friends and they liked it. One friend is very carnivorous and had the black eyed peas burger and said “this is very good”. So that says something lol.

Stopped in here on the way to Penn Station. Great vegan fast food. Greasy Burgers and sandwiches. Can create your own powerbowl for a somewhat healthier option. Overall well worth the visit if in the area.

Wonderful Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Had the best experience at this restaurant. The food was all super fresh and the staff were the nicest people! They have a variety of options and work with a lot of different substitutions etc. There is street parking right in front of the restaurant which is super convenient.

Driving through the area so hungry, I checked Happy Cow and found Urban Vegan was nearby! On the way there I knew after looking at the menu online I wanted the chicken sandwich or the chicken biscuit, they both sounded yummy I couldn't decide. When I asked the staff there they said the sandwich was a customer favorite so went for it and it was delicious, I chose the yum yum sauce because I couldn't resist the name and it was good but I bet the spicy remoulade would've been great, I think I'd have preferred a bit more of a kick. Paid the extra $2.00 to upgrade from the side salad to the sweet potato fries and they were perfect! My partner got the black-eyed pea burger and wanted it without cheese but it came with cheese anyway so he scraped it off, he upgraded to the side of plantains and said both were good. I'm not a fan of the 'mushy' patty so I didn't try it myself (or the plantains.) Would recommend for a fast food fix.
