Rude staff, meh food

Came here with friends and despite booking weeks in advance, upon arrival we were told there was no record of our reservation. Mistakes happen, but the restaurant manager could not have been more unwelcoming and rude. The food was absolutely not worth the hassle, don't waste your time coming here.

Cons: Rude, expensive, bland food

Disappointing

Perhaps my expectation had been raised too high for Bread Street Brasserie's vegan night but I was left rather disappointed.

To me the food seemed very average. I would have been happy if I had found these vegan options on a normal menu, but wanted more from this as we had made a special trip out just to try their vegan menu.

There were some highlights to the food. Our starters were both tasty and well presented, mine an onion bahji and my partners a grilled bread with Mediterranean vegetables. We also had a banana spring roll dessert with date caramel which was delicious (I will be stealing the idea and making it myself).

However, both our mains had major flaws. My partner had a noodle dish of which his comment on the sauce was that it tasted like a cheap jar of sweet and sour. I had a sundried tomato burger which was okay but the slaw it came with was bad, tasting of nothing but soya yoghurt. I also found it hard to pick three dishes which worked together as a meal, making me feel like the menu was not well thought out.

The service was also somewhat lacking. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful, but the head waiter was really disinterested, bordering on rude. We came 10 minutes earlier than our table was booked for and were dismissed to the bar to wait, with the promise that we would be collected when our table was ready. 30 minutes later he still had not come to find us, we went to ask again and then were seated. Not a huge deal but added to the general sense that Bread Street Brasserie’s vegan night was not the experience we were hoping for.

Truly awful

My guacamole & pomegranate entrée was really quite nice, but everything else was a disappointment... at best. The bread was stale and inedible. My main (a quinoa salad) literally had ROTTING artichoke in it. You could smell it across the table. After letting the waitress know, all we got was a cursory "sorry". Thank god they had an (overpriced) dram of Oban whisky.

Pros: Creative menu

Cons: Rotting food served.

vegan night at the Brasserie

What an amazing menu. There was 5 of us eating and each dish looked better than the next. All the food tasted fabulous with the crumble and ice cream a fave

Pros: very good food, great staff

Wonderful venue for a monthly vegan night

I've been along to a few of the vegan nights here and have always been very pleased with their menu options. No fobbing off with pasta and tomato sauce or a falafel burger and the vegans should be grateful, but lots of options with flavour and obvious thought gone into to providing something special. Menu is usually available online a few days in advance so you can think about what you want to order before you go.

Their current plan is to offer their vegan night menu on the first Monday or the month, starting from July 1st.

Fantastic vegan night

My trip to Edinburgh last October coincided with the vegan night, and I'm so glad it did! It's a really fancy setting, and they don't rough it when it's vegan night, they still go for impressive fancy food. The staff were so lovely and attentive, and made some good recommendations on the dishes too. There were three choices for every course, and they were all very tempting. The desserts were the real highlight, in particular a chocolate tart that was just sublime.

Pros: Creative dishes, Friendly service

Great vegan night

We were lucky to be around for the special monthly vegan menu and really enjoyed our evening. The food was very nice and exceeded our expectations for a non-veg restaurant - it was light and fresh, there was a great choice of puddings, and it's always a treat to be able to choose from an exclusively vegan menu. The staff were friendly and helpful, and it was good value for three courses. We'd definitely go again, especially for the pancakes!

Pros: tasty food, there was special all-vegan menu , good value for money

good monthly option

went here a wee while ago as part of the edinburgh meet up group, and very happy with the night.

the vegan night had a choice of thee starters, three mains and three deserts, they also went to the trouble of listing which beer and wines were vegan and the staff were really good.

there were some innovative food and some older staples, but my creamy mushroom samosa was very good, using local produce such as kale added to the menu.

a good option if you happen to be in edinburgh when the monthly menu is available.

Pros: all vegan, staff

Fantastic vegan nights!

I've only ever been here on their special vegan nights (http://www.pointhoteledinburgh.co.uk/point-hotel-edinburgh/vegan-evening.html) so I can't speak for their regular menu, but I love their vegan evenings. Every time I've been, the food has been delicious and very creative, such as a wonderful pumpkin and tofutti lasagne I will never forget! A great experience; it's just a shame they only seem to happen once a month.

Pros: Excellent food, Puts on special vegan nights, Friendly, helpful staff
