Better Late than Never

My opening word of advice for this place is get there considerably early than I did. Despite that fact that there was still a good few hours left in their advertise opening hours, the shop was pretty much stripped bare of goods. Thankfully, there was still a vegan oatmeal cookie on offer which I have to say gave an incredible insight in to what I was missing out on as it may have been the best of its ilk that I have had. I will return to sample more, I’ll just get there in good time.

UPDATE: I did indeed return at a more reasonable hour and the selection was amazing.

A favourite spot of mine in Belfast

It’s easy to see why this spot is so popular! Really tasty food and drink at a fair price for the portion sizes. They use a lot of good quality ingredients that taste flavoursome when paired together, food is presented beautifully at the window-front with clear labelling.

I had the vegan savoury roll, lemon loaf slice, Biscoff whirl and an oat latte with chai syrup - all of which I would highly recommend!

Pros: Reasonable amount of vegan options, Clear labelling, Generous portion sizes

Cinnamon roll

We were just looking for a late morning snack after walking in Ormeau park. I had noticed something marked vegan in the window when previously passing. We got a vegan iced cinnamon roll and some herbal teas. It was really amazing. Lovely flavours and textures and quite large. They seem to have three vegan sweet items in the window and they have plant milk options for the hot drinks. There is a little planted wall outside with places to sit with your back to the traffic which was nice. We were able to observe how popular the place is with most people walking on with their purchases.

Kazooie and veggie roll

Update: seems to have even less veggie options now, only 1 roll when I last went and now no seats. Still, decent and cheap. Counter staff lady seemed miffed about something. Wasn't rude but was sharp. Oh well.

--------------

A bakery that stocks a few veggie options, cheaply priced and ideal for an on the go lunch.
When I was there, many goods on offer were vegetarian and at least 1 (the malaysian curry puff, a stuffed pastry delight containing carrot, peas and other lentilly type things flavoured with a mild curry) was vegan.

Offers speciality breads, sausage roll type veg delights (veg roll for example is a puff pastry containing lentils, grains, mushrooms and thyme), savoury is a feature, as well as delicious cakes, buns, scones and coffee or tea.
Generally just over the £2.20 mark per item, cheaper to take away than sit in.

Decor is quirky and cafe is small. Kind of like an indie Gregg's, but kind of not!

I also took some sourdough pizzas home to eat later. A cheap way to get filling food. Reminds me of my dads daily trip to Jeffers for lunch, same idea I guess.

Do try!

Quality + Taste + Atmosphere = The Perfect Bakery

I only gave four stars because I can't give 5! While it is not all vegetarian, the majority is and the have loads of vegan stuff! It deserves 10 stars to be honest. I was introduced to Bread and Banjo by a friend who knew I was vegan. I could not have been any happier to find this bakery - vegan or not! Everything is made in the store, just up the stairs, with fresh, whole ingredients. They are constantly experimenting with pastries and sweets but always keep the best sellers around too! Whether you're looking for a healthy lunch (it varies but they offer unique salads, noodle dishes, quinoa and veggies, etc), a fresh loaf of bread, a pastry ( i LOVE the Malaysian curry puffs), a healthy snack (their energy balls are addicting, and taste a bit like ferrero rocher) or you just want to satisfy your sweet tooth (can you say vegan cupcakes, peanut butter cups, and fudge?!) Bread & Banjo is the place for you! BONUS - they often have people in playing music (hence the name) and are now open for a few hours on Sundays! Enjoy!!!

Pros: High quality Food, Atmosphere, Diverse Options
