Pizza Week Special - Edit
I have been to Boxcar multiple times and this week I tried the pizza week smash burger pizza. Ordering is done via self service tablet. The price of $12 for a whole pizza was good. Slices where $3 for pizza week. The pizza was pretty good and came out quick. I am not a huge fan of the vegan cheese they use as it is sticky and has a bit of a bitter aftertaste. The pizza week special is better than other pizzas I have tried here.

Vying for best vegan pizza I’ve ever had - Edit
This Detroit-inspired pizza with a foccaccia-ish crust is up there with the best I’ve ever had. Just really unique, and you can tell that a ton of thought and experimentation has gone into the recipes. Most vegan pizzas fall down for me on the cheeses, because in general I just don’t want more than a dab of chao, violife, daiya or teese, and miyokos is too expensive for non-gourmet spots. The cheese here is GOOD.
Read moreThe pizza I had was the Bianca. Several reviewers mentioned getting a red sauce on the side and I will say that yes…it is a bit gluey after the first few bites and seems to want a little acid to cut it.
The cake was also amazing.
Service is taken through an automated system that hits you up for a tip even though there’s no table service and you bus your own. The automated system did not have my preferred pizza and so I flagged down a person to ask if there were difference between the automated menu and the posted one. She said no and walked away. I kept searching and then asked about the pizza again, and was told that they were out of it. Ok…
Also somewhat unfortunate that though portions are perfect for sharing, there’s really not anything for a single person who doesn’t want leftovers to order.

Fun Pizza Options - Edit
Came in with high expectations, but was still pleasantly surprised. So many interesting options to pick from and they really delivered. It was gooey, creamy, crisped cheese on the edges, soft fluffy crust on the inside, goodness. Only gripe was the top of the Nashville chicken was a little burnt. Definitely coming back to try more. Also very filling. You’ll need less pizza here than elsewhere.

Everything everyone else said and MORE! Pizza has been the hardest thing to replace since going Vegan. The smell, the taste, the dough, sauce, cheese… all of it sent my Serotonin Receptors firing! We ordered the Head on Collision and buffalo wingz and I was in utter peace with every bite!

Easy to Order and Amazing Food - Edit
I had heard tons of great things about this place for a while now and was so glad I got the chance to check it out. I got the Caesar salad with Chick'n. The dressing was super good and I LOVED whatever parmesan they use. We also got the Bianca pizza which had amazing vegan cheesy and such good flavors. I did order it with a side of red sauce though as it was very heavy and that helped brighten it up.

Was greeted with a super warm welcome from the guys working here. They gave great recommendations. I'm just upset I don't live in this state or I'd be a regular! My deep dish pie was perfect in every way. Unique toppings, great flavor, right amount of spice. Yum!!

First time here and with detroit style pizza. We had the Jimmy Pesto and Strings of Nashville. Both were fantastic and filling. Loved the detroit style with thick fluffy bread and crispy edges where the cheese meets the pan. Awesome. The thing that blew our minds the most were the wings. We tried the sriracha lime ones. As a former omni’s, these made us do a double take. Crispy skin with a chewy stringy texture over sugarcane bone. Just wow. You owe it to yourself to try this place if you haven’t.

Not only is this the best "vegan" pizza I've ever tasted, but it's actually the best pizza I've ever tasted period. My mouth is watering just thinking about it it. And the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The vibe is really welcoming. I would definitely go here again and again and again.

I have only had Detroit Pizza one other time and happened to be vegan. It was alright when I had it then. I have been to Detroit where the talented rapper Eminem is from. Detroit is where the pinball like running back legend Detroit Lion Barry Sanders played. Detroit is where I was in awe when I saw the Diego Rivera murals there. Detroit isn't known for it's pizza yet lately Detroit pizza seems to be getting popular.
Detroit Pizza is like a cross between Sicilian and Chicago deep dish yet comes in a square with four slices.
Boxcar Pizza was named best vegan pizza this past year in Veg News magazine so had great expectations coming here.
Boxcar Pizza delivered! I went with the Viktor Vaughn pizza. The pizza came with mozzarella, cheddar, kale, red onions, ricotta, mama lil's peppers, and pesto. I got it with a side of red sauce for dipping which I recommend.
The pizza was very tasty. Plenty of flavor. It was a bit rich and filling for plenty of vegan cheese was used. Perhaps a touch less vegan cheese and other pizza pies with more veggies would be nice.
I like that this pizza had plenty of veggies on it. I just got this and was able to eat it all. Each pizza serves one to two depending on your appetite. If you come with a friend or spouse might be good to split one and order a Kale Caesar salad to share.
Viktor Vaughn is the real name of Dr. Doom who happens to be the arch enemy of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Comics. Viktor Vaughn is also a British rapper.
There are many different kinds of pizza here and am so happy that a vegan pizza place delivers tasty vegan pizza. I hope they open up branches in other cities.

How does one put into words the sheer brilliance of flavors, textures, mouth feel, and joy that Boxcar Pizza embodies? Every pie we’ve had from here is perfect. Favorites are the bianca (add pepperoni if you want a real treat), bacon damn sure, map change, and Jimmy Pesto. We usually get two pizzas and can only eat one slice of each leaving us another exciting meal for later! We love the wings, the Caesar salad, and the cheesy bread too. Pay attention to the specials because they are almost always incredible; pizza topped grilled peaches with hot “honey” or blackberry basil or how about the buddy’s cheesesteak special or the bbq jalapeño bacon cheeseburger pizza?!? A completely different experience of pizza, Detroit style crispy melted cheese edges on dense flakey almost focaccia crust, but they have become our favorite place and a weekly staple now. If you drink, the whiskey bar Paydirt next door is also great mixed with the pizza😉

Read moreBut woah...filling. We got the cheese bread, Bianca, and the Jimmy Pesto...for two people...and that was not a good idea. Way too much food for us, but at least we have lunch for tomorrow. We could only manage two slices each. Super thick and super decadent. Absolutely worth every penny, especially considering we get two-three meals out of it! Go there now!

I ordered a salad and pizza in-store at a kiosk, to-go. Parking was pretty easy (street parking along both sides of the street), and the restaurant wasn't busy, although it was also only 4pm. Super lowkey and friendly employees. I will order any vegan Cesar I see, and this one had an incredible dressing that stood up to the kale.

We shared the strings of nashville pizza and the bacon jalapenos cheesy bread and they were both so good. Pretty big protions, we kept half of it for lunch (really happy about that) I'm visiting Portland and I definitely want to come back before leaving to try other things!!! We were wowed by this pizza! My husband and I shared the Bianca and an order of buffalo wings for dinner. The Bianca was so delicious. It's hard to even describe the cheesy goodness. You just have to try it! The wings were fine, fairly realistic and had a lot of spice, but they were really messy and I don't think I loved wings all that much back before going vegan. I wouldn't order the wings again when those incredible pizzas are available. I can't wait to try more of the pizzas! The people working at Boxcar were super nice, and we loved the indoor/outdoor dog-friendly patio area that is shared by all the businesses in the Zipper building. You could easily order from multiple places in the building, including a cocktail bar, and eat at the shared tables.
