No Vegan or GF Options anymore! - Edit
Honestly don’t know why this cafe is still on Happy Cow?!
Read moreIt used to be a regular ‘all day breakfast’ type cafe, which DID happily offer good veggie, Vegan & GF options (with lovely staff who were always happy to accommodate dietary needs).
HOWEVER… it changed ownership a while ago, & now definitely no longer offers any Vegan or GF options (& questionable veggie options??).
When we visited a few months ago, we were told by staff (2 school leavers with no understanding of any dietary needs, customer care), that “the owner isn’t interested in that kind of thing”. (Apologies to the girls serving, I’m sure you’re doing the best you can, with low pay & minimal training. But the owners seriously need to up their game, especially re allergies etc.). We did ask if they could do a breakfast with just vegan & GF options. They said you couldn’t ‘swap things around’, but grudgingly agreed to offer 3 items (beans, mushrooms, tomatoes). I asked for a bigger portion of each if possible, to make up the plate, to which they agreed. But ended up with a very small portion of beans, tomato, & a few mushrooms (all tepid). I was charged the same as a ‘full english’ so really unimpressed.
We were met with what felt like hostility for even asking about dietary options. It might be ok for a vegetarian option, if you’re not too worried about actual ingredients, as they couldn’t even verify if a vegetarian option was actually vegetarian?? The general attitude seemed to be one of ignorance & apathy (‘don’t know, don’t care’).
Was a nice cafe with options, but would now recommend staying well away, especially if you have any dietary needs, or care about what you might be eating.
(If you’re in Rye Harbour, The William The Conqueror Pub opposite does a lovely home made Vegan bean stew -& are careful about allergies- Thats about your only option in this area).

Lunch - Edit
Visiting the harbour I came to this cafe as had seen it on here. Sadly it seems the vegan options have declined. Was even offered cheese as an option for my lunch. I did have a good sized jacket with baked beans and a lovely side salad but was hoping for something more! No mention of any vegan alternatives (mayo or butter). There was a falafel wrap but that has mayo in it but probably could have asked without if falafel is your thing. Lots of choice if vegetarian and the food did look amazing. Only leaving a review in case others were visiting due to previous people’s experience (which I was). Went into Rye itself after where there were a lot of restaurants offering vegan Fayre a plenty so my advice head there!

Very good vegan breakfast and friendly staff - Edit
Expecting a vegan wasteland I only went in as I was with a friend. Without even asking I was told the two soups were vegan, and there were two types of vegan brownie clearly labelled. The menu had several options and I selected the breakfast as we were about to go for a long walk. Was even more surprised when I was given a choice of sausages! The staff are really keen to broaden their vegan offer and have nondairy butter, alternative milks and vegan mayonnaise. Hope to goi back in the not too distant future when the tofu scramble we talked about may be a thing!

Cons: Serves meat, The tables wobble
