Nice sanctuary! All food is vegan!

I came in hoping I wouldn't be disappointed with the fact they have animals on display and being exploited. Luckily I wasn't. I did read that animals are rehabilitated and released so that gave me comfort in knowing it's not a zoo. The animals are on display (albeit small enclosures) with information about how each animal ended up at the sanctuary and whether or not the animal can be released back into the wild or not. Some animals were clearly injured, some were former pets where their owners passed away, and some were orphans from mothers killed in road accidents. The staff is very knowledgeable and gives out some explanations throughout the day. You can help feed some of the animals, though you need to wear gloves. There is a section where kangaroos are lying around and there are no barriers. Some kids would go up and pet them. Not a fan of that. In the end, the sanctuary tries its best to care for these animals and hopefully release them back in the wild one day. What I really appreciated is that all the food served at the cafe is vegan, and quite good, especially their pastries/desserts! At the exit, you can donate money (cash or card is accepted).

Amazing food and a great sanctuary

If they have the loaded onion rings when you‘re there - go get them!!! So good, wow!

We loved everything about this place. The food was really delicious and the fact that their restaurant is 100% vegan is just great. All animals are worthy of protection! 🖤

Don’t expect to see all animals as it’s a sanctuary, not a zoo. Definitely worth joining one of the daily tours to get some extra info and see the tasmanian devils come out for food. We were lucky enough to see one of the quolls, a sugar glider, lots of birds, a wombat, kangaroos and the tasmanian devils.

Great food and great sanctuary

Everything is vegan! They have daily specials, usually a soup and 2 mains, as well as classic snacks, smoothies, iced chocolate and coffee etc. The cakes are to die for! The cafe is inside the wildlife sanctuary, but you can also order food from outside if you don't want to go into the sanctuary itself. Bonorong wildlife sanctuary and cafe also supports a 24/7 wildlife rescue service and a dedicated wildlife hospital.

Pros: Delicious food, Supports wildlife, Did I mention delicious food?

Worth the trip!

Affectionately called "The Burrow", the sanctuary kiosk is 100% plant based with a range of sweet treats, drinks, and finger foods. It's a great stop at the end of a day at the sanctuary.

All vegan sanctuary

Loved that the kiosk was all vegan and all of the snacks/drinks in the gift shop were vegan too! The iced chocolate was amazing. I also got the pasta and the curry, both were yum but felt like they were just prepackaged. I preferred the curry, if you're going to the sanctuary I would recommend getting something! #Veganuary

Lovely little vegan cafe at a wonderful animal sanctuary

Was very happy to discover a vegan cafe at this animal sanctuary. There were two mains options and a soup, as well as baked goods and various drinks — including vegan ice cream for iced coffee! The person working there was lovely, too.

Pros: All vegan food & drink, Lots of gluten-free options , Vegan iced coffee!

Cons: There’s only one staffer so be patient

All good!

All good! No crockery so I skipped having a cup of tea but the pumpkin soup, Thai green curry and dim sims (like mini chico rolls) were all fine.

Must visit when in Hobart

Amazing place - all rangers and rescuers extremely knowledgeable about the animals. They have a wonderful attitude and approach to rescue and know each animal’s story. The kiosk is almost like a canteen, cute and with some fry-ups and some hearty options (like pea soup and falafel and couscous salad). All the snacks you can purchase are vegan - I got a jokerz bar and malty balls 😋.

Pros: Animals are priority , Lots of vegan chocolate and snacks options

Cons: None

Vegan food at the wildlife centre

The main motivation for my going to the wildlife centre was to eat the food, the only vegan eatery in the region, it appears. (But I didn’t mind paying $30 to help support the good work they’re doing.) I ordered several items, ate some and brought away leftovers for supper in my hotel room. It’s a changeable menu, but this day there were deep-fried items (chips/wedges, dim sum, spring rolls and potato cakes), a cup of hearty tomato soup ($6) and a bowl of Indian coconut rice with sultanas, carrots and sliced almonds ($9.50). I enjoyed the soup, the rice, a potato cake, a dim sum roll and spring rolls. Also brought away a coconut rough cookie ($3). All tasty food. Coffee and other hot drinks are here (cold drinks can be bought in the gift shop), as well as cookies and muffins and optional sauces for the food. Several items are gluten-free. Friendly service too. This is a good way to enjoy some food while helping the sanctuary.

Pros: all vegan, accessible from outside and inside the grounds

lovely but sold out of all meals

Lovely little kiosk but don't rely on it for lunch. We went Sunday and all meals had sold out. Had to have chips and potato cakes which is what we have everywhere anyway. Nice cakes but shame about the food.

ticks all boxes

Cute little cafe/ kiosk. Staff are so down to earth and genuine, doing an amazing job with the sanctuary. Coffee was good, they use Bonsoy. We tried the chocolate brownie and the wedges with aioli. All delicious. The entire menu is vegan and they are very environmentally conscious! Definitely coming back.
