Very good veggie place

i tried some seitan chunks with veggies and rice and they killed it. The portion was huge, i got some tea for free and the price was less than 4 dollars. they have menu in english and staff speak english too. prices are moderate and it's very close to the city center. definitely a good choice.

Pros: Location close to the city center, Portions, Quality of food

Our favorite restaurant in town!

This restaurant is seriously the best thing ever, we have been going here for lunch or dinner for over a year now and I can honestly say it is SO tasty.
Sure sometimes things aren't 100% the same, but we've been there so many times it was bound to happen.
Some of the favourites I can recommend is the PHO, you get a HUGE bowl of this tasty noodle soup filled with mushrooms, tofu and noodles; the Jackfruit cooked in coconut milk, it tastes like pulled pork-ish; the PHO ROLLS are SO GOOD!; the banana blossom salad is perfect, i bet there isn't a thing that can disappoint you on the menu!
Even though some things on the menu aren't fully vegan, hey can accommodate and make it vegan, like the veggie curry soup, just ask for it with no cows milk and you will get it just with coconut milk.
Anyways enough about food, the staff is great and super helpful, make sure you go there in the evening there is such a nice romantic vibe on the terrace overlooking the main street.
The prices are super affordable for a westerner, not as cheap as street food but the quality is amazing. 2$ to 4$ per dish.
All in all this is such a great place, I just had to say something!

Pros: delicious food, super affordable, great ambient

Cons: not the same ALL the time, but thats hard!

Lovely food in a lovely place

Super friendly staff who were helpful. I had the Vietnamese stew with a baguette and it was very good. My partner had a curry and that was also delicious. We didn't have to wait very long for our food and there were a few people in the restaurant which was good. It is well signed so we didn't get lost.

Pros: Friendly, Nice atmosphere, Nice food

Below expectations

Went here with high expectations after rave reviews from others but was disappointed. The appetizers we ordered (spring rolls version 1&2) were stale and tasteless with sauces without complexity (creamy peanut and chiliwater).

Main course stuffed tofu in coconut sauce had indescriptive stuffing and no taste of coconut in the sauce. Texture was nice though. Stuffed shiitake and veggies had similar problems.

Other restaurants in HCMC were more impressive. Other costumers seemed more impressed though so maybe we were unlucky.

Pros: Lots of options, nice atmosphere, indoors and ou

Cons: Taste and lacking thereof.

Lit.

Wassup peace y'all I gotta do this real quick. Me and my boy stopped by here when we were wandering around looking for a SIM card. Read some reviews saying it was mad fancy and expensive but we had no other options so we rolled through. You go through some little alley to get to the stairs that take you all the way up to this lil gem. First off our servers English was on point and he told us everything was vegan. We started off with some rice cracker tofu mushroom jawn he recommended and dude clearly wasn't playin around nahmean. The chef spazzed out off top with this one and we knew it was about to be a code 4 lituation. We got our main courses which was mushroom curry and an oyster mushroom dish and they took this whole sh*t to the next level yo. Every flavor and texture came together like the chef treked up mount sinai and received the knowledge for creating edible fire emojis on a stone tablet from the vegan Virgin Mary. Anyway, I'm feeling atleast 6 socialist stars out of 5 on this one. Peace.

If You have the chance, GO HERE

Wow. Just Wow. This food was absolutely amazing. $2.50 for a huge portion of food that filled me up and made my taste buds reach places they have never been to before??? I honestly cannot even fathom the amount of preparation and expertise that went into creating my dish. Every single bite was different and made me question my own sanity. I tried my friends dish as well, and found myself taking at least a quarter of what he was eating. They also provide you with free jasmine tea, as well as some fruit for desert which was also very high quality.
The location of the restaurant is tucked away upstairs in a busy district, but once you arrive you only get the feeling of comfort. The waiters/waitresses speak English very well, and we're quick to recommend their favorite plates. Overall this place is a 10/10. Now time to figure out how to put together the pieces of my life the were shattered from the absolute mind blowing experience I received from this restaurant.

Pros: Fully Vegan Restaurant Incredible food, Incredible service, Cheap

Cons: No Cons at all

A really enjoyable dinner

This is he first time visiting the restaurant. It was quite quiet on a week night but saw a couple of locals eating here. Since not sure what to order ask for recommendation. One waiter spoke clear English and recommended the jack fruits stew in clay pot. Got myself also a brown rice. Food is great and the atmosphere is nice. For a good restaurant in the city center the price is reasonable.

Pros: English menu, Can choose table indoor with AC , Outside is also nicely decorated balcony

Cons: The dish a little sweet but really tasty

Food good, atmosphere better

The food is good to great depending on what you get. I'd suggest the curry or the "pho cuon" or the ban bot loc.

Great place

Very nice attention, great service. Excellent English speakers, every dish was described and explained perfectly.
well located, inside option with air conditioning and noise isolated.
We took advice from the waiter and everything went prefect. All dishes where well presented, served in a few minutes, abundant and very tasty. Vegan options.

Great Restaurant in the Big City

I came here for a meal after a show with my parents. The staff are friendly and the decor inside is friendly. The location is a bit tough to find; it's on the upper level. Follow the sign and go through an alley before reaching the restaurant. The restaurant is not vegan, so specify to the staff that you want vegan options, and they are happy to accommodate. The food portions were large and very nicely presented. The taste was fresh and flavourful! The only downside is no vegan desserts, from what I could see at the time of my visit (July, 2015)

Pros: Friendly Staff, Large Portions, Delicious Vegan Food

Cons: Hard to Find, No Vegan Desserts

Bong Sung Vegetarian Food, Ho Chi Minh City

This establishment is easy to find. Its 1 floor above ground level. It is well signed from the street and the access from the side of the building (up a narrow passageway) is also pretty straight forward.

Its quite a big restaurant. There's 2 dining areas inside and tables in 3 sections on the balcony.

The waiter very usefully for spoke good English. Thus my 10 word Viet vocab was not a constraint to be concerned with. I asked the waiter to recommend the food.

For a starter I had rolled Pho. This tasted very nice with the accompanying dip. Also it was pretty substantial for a starter (6 rolls). For a main I was recommended to have a dish that containing jackfruit. not something I recall encountering before.

The food was great, the decor clean and pleasant, the service was efficient. I was snapping away taking pics to load up to this website. The waiter made it clear that for reasons unbeknown to me, I was not to take any pics of the bar nor the kitchen.

The tab came to 203 000 dong. This included a 5% service charge. While this is pricier than other places I recall so far in HCMC, I don't believe most people holidaying in Vietnam would find that outrageous, especially for the quality of the food. I was still happy with what I was getting for my dong.

One small area that the manager could perhaps address. The music being played didn't seem to to match the vibe of the place. Fair enough the placing is peaceful and relaxing. The music being played though reminded of the tv adverts from my youth for an album by Richard Clayderman. It was piano versions of songs most of which I recognised (e.g. The Carpenters). While not to my taste personally it was inoffensive enough. It did though seem to be a mismatch to the establishment. It was more the kind of music I'd expect to hear in the lobby of a corporate standard hotel on a business trip.

Pros: Great vegan food

Cons: Mismatched choice of music?

Yummy Vegan Cuisine!

Bong Sung is a little bit hidden so you need to go down an alley and to the left before you reach the entrance. Once you do its a beautiful restaurant with lovely accommodating staff. The majority of the food is vegan and delicious! We had rice paper rolls, fresh Bin Thanh Bread, mushrooms $ tofu in pepper sauce and a fermented bean and tofu dish. All delicious, all good quality! Highly recommend!!

Pros: Beautiful , Delicious, Mainly Vegan

Cons: Staff struggle with English

Fantastic Food and Charming Hostess

We found this restaurant by chance but feel lucky that we did. Normally, I'm not a vegetarian eater but my girlfriend wanted to try it. We ordered a veggie Hot Pot and proceeded to devour the whole thing, but not until we had sampled some very tasty paté with bread!

The restaurant was quite busy without being overcrowded, but despite this, the proprietress still had time to come and and talk to us (with the help of a waiter) about her new venture. She then proceeded to order some very fancy cocktails (on the house) and left us to enjoy our meal! Fantastic stuff!!!!

Pros: Food Quality, Atmosphere and Decor, Friendly Staff

Vegetarian sophistication

We are a family of one vegan, 2 vegetarian and one who eats anything but will go veggies with family. This is our first trip to HCMC city and we have consulted Happy cow for our diet appropriate restaurant,. Bong Sung was the closest to walk to from the hotel we're staying in and aren't we lucky. This restaurant is the nicest most sophisticated vegetarian /vegan restaurant I have ever been and we have spent 2 weeks on a vegan trail in Chiang Mai before HCMC. I mean wow! finding the restaurant location was not difficult, not far from the corners of Pasteur Road. Upon getting to the location according to the map, we walked in a local eatery (just like the ones we have been to in Chiang Mai). I asked if it was Bong Sung and was given a puzzled look. Then we were directed towards a side alley towards a back door where a nondescript sign on top of a door say Bong Sung. Then a pretty host welcome and directed us up a flight of steps and open the door to what I would call a pleasant transformation. This restaurant is fine dining experience. The ambience is old French colonial with a contemporary twist. There are a few servers who speaks English quite well. The tables are set with pristine dishes and chopsticks complimented with real floral arrangements. Complimentary cold Chinese tea were served straight away and wet serviettes (thick and fluffy). Servers are happy to recommend food choices and drinks. After all the awesomeness of this place, it really boils down to what the food is like. I had a fried banana blossom with green mango salad. My verdict - excellently yummy. Mu husband had a Chinese cabbage soup which was served piping hot. Our son who is a very strict vegan ordered boiled tofu, curried vegetables soup and vietnamese baguette (banh mi). Vietnamese bread are baked without milk so it was perfect. We tried the recommended non alcoholic cocktails of Sunlight and Water. We found the Water cocktail a tad too sweet.

Now, a word of caution. This is a vegetarian restaurant. They do not claim to be vegan. As a matter of fact I had to explain to our sever what vegan means. I was asked if it was for health reasons :-). I even ask if the curry sauce they use does not have shrimp paste or fish sauce (as often used in Far East). The server did say they only serve and use vegetables, but I do not think they are aware that vegans do not consume animal by-products as well.

Our total bill was 465,000 VND (US$21).

I would suggest guests to dress up a bit coming here.

Pros: Beautiful, inviting ambience with delicious food.

Cons: Casual pack packing get up of shorts vests and fl

Hi there,

Thanks for this very extensive review.

I'll submit a request for the classification of the restaurant to be changed from 'vegan' to the more general 'vegetarian'.

Keep well, Stevie

Amazing new vegetarian restaurant

We literally stumbled on this restaurant today when walking along Nguyen Du. We went back tonight for dinner and we were very impressed.
Our friendly server, Lan, suggested a few dishes for us and we were so happy she did.
We had rolled Cuon which are a soft noodle vegetable roll, absolutely delicious, fresh mango salad, a little spicy like a papaya salad and a very simple rice dish served with spring onions.
We drank fresh pineapple juice, Heineken beer and were treated with bottomless fresh ice tea.
A really delicious meal, all at a very reasonable price. Dinner for 2 tonight was 250000 dong, or $US12
Lan had limited English, so I can't confirm if this was vegan or not, but she kept saying that everything was just made from vegetables..

Pros: Delicious , good value, Good location
