Decent for the area but not the most fulfilling - Edit
Original 2020 review: I stopped into Cafe Bodega for a quick lunch while visiting the area after hearing they had decent vegan options. There were a few options, but they were a bit unfulfilling...for example, for huevos rancheros, there weren't any options to replace the meat, cheese, and egg. For the only place in town, it would be lucrative to carry some vegan replacements. Basically, I got mole sauce on top of refried beans between tortillas...makes me think I should have gone to Border Grill, instead. Also, the service was mediocre and the server's disposition made me feel like a burden and a nuisance, even before modifying my food. It seemed like there were 6 employees for 4 tables yet still behind. The drinks were fantastic, though. All in all, there was food, drinks, and good prices. I'd come back to see if the options or service improves but my first impression was decent, not great.
Read more2025 update: Service was great. The menu hasn't changed much, if at all. The breakfast and lunch/dinner burrito/wrap is the same lentil patty. It's good, but it's not "breakfast." Adding tofu to the menu would be incredible. Imagine a tofu scramble or a tofu sandwich. All you need to do is switch the seasonings, marinade, and/or batter. The fries are incredible. You can tell they put effort into their food, but a little more effort on the vegan side would go a long way in this area without many other options.

So many options! - Edit
I think the owner must have changed since the older reviews, because there are a ton of vegan options now. There are 6 veganizeable breakfast options and 13 lunch options.
Read moreWe tried the breakfast burrito and tacos, which were both really tasty. Definitely the best vegan option in Marquette.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Cool interior, Local ingredients

If everywhere else is closed... - Edit
There are a number of dishes that can be made vegan.
Read moreThE fOoD tAsTeS JuSt FiNe, but the portions are small and overpriced. (When we go out, none of my vegan college friends choose to go here).
In reference to another review about their reputation for mixed drinks - I purchased a Bloody Mary once and it was tomato juice (maybe some alcohol) and no garnishments, unless you count the 1/2 cup of ice cubes.
The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, but in the winter it's super cold sitting by the windows.
With limited options in the U.P., Cafe Bodega is okay, but disappointing given their potential.
Pros: Food tastes good, atmosphere is nice
Cons: Expensive, deceptive advertising, small portions

Okay - Edit
Not the best food I've ever had, but nice to find something in a part of the state without much. They had a vegan soup special that I loved, and make a tahini dressing. I'm not a huge salad person but the one I tried was pretty good. They do have a pesto on the menu that sounds really good, but I didn't get to try it.

Cons: Expensive, More suitable for vegetarians than vegans, Serves meat

Used to be veg-friendly - Edit
This place used to be The Sweetwater Cafe, whose menu had a variety of vegan and vegetarian options. Since the change in ownership and the name change, those have all but disappeared. The menu says "Vegan and gluten-free options available! Ask your server for recommendations." When I asked, the server pointed out the only vegan item on the menu, which I had already identified (the ginger stir-fry). No suggestions for anything else that could be made vegan, and the mole sauce is made with chicken stock, so the enchiladas are not vegetarian even though they aren't listed as containing meat. All the local meat products are prominently featured on the menu.
Read moreI ordered the ginger stir-fry which was good, but not a lot different from anything I've made at home - nothing that really stood out.
The owner is well known around town as a terrific bartender, and I've had great cocktails made by her in the past, but the drinks we got the night we were there were not up to that standard. The server behind the bar ignored us most of the time we were there, though the place was not that busy.
Part of me is disappointed to see a restaurant that once had a lot of tasty options change so drastically, but I also think that as a stand-alone menu this place is just not that great. It's a shame, but that's how it goes. Luckily The Landmark Inn/The Piedmont, Babycakes, and the Marquette Food Co-op all have good vegetarian and vegan dining options.
Pros: Attractive interior decor, One vegan option that's ok
Cons: Used to have a lot of veggie options, but no more, Drinks not worth the price

Vegetarian and Gluten Free options. - Edit
This one is not the best for vegans. But as a vegetarian I saw many options I could dig on. The food was a little pricey but very good.

We eat hear every time we drive up North! - Edit
My family and I found this cafe (before any of us were vegitarians), one rainy evening while driving through the Upper Peninsula. We were delighted and shocked to find a organic resaturant with vegitarian and many vegan choices in this area. After one great experiences there it became a family favorite and must go to destonation when driving up north. The atmosphere is refreshing, earthy, welcoming, and cozy. The staff are always very friendly and kind. And the food is fantastic!
Read moreThe cafe does serve organic free range meat but has a huge swelection of out standing vegan entrées.I have never been to a not 100% vegan resturant with so many yummy vegan choices! The animal free menu goes on and on. They also have a long gluten free menu. If you are with a meat eater they can also get what they please, however the cooks are better at cooking vegitarian food then meat. The bakery part of the cafe could have a few more vegan and health food creations but this returant is amazing.
Pros: Tons of great vegan options, Freindly staff, nice atmospher
Cons: Not close to where i live
