Only one vegan option - Edit
Their menu says “asks us how to make any menu items vegan,” but there was only one item. They said they didn’t have tofu, so only the hash or bagel could be made vegan.

best croissant - Edit
My companion said the croissant was hands down the best croissant they have ever had. I thought the pain au chocolate was delicious, too. Good coffee, pleasant atmosphere.

Miss the old Scorcher - Edit
I’ve come a few times in the past several months and the hot foods have not been as flavorful or hearty as they once were. The tempeh Rueben made vegan is smaller now, and not as flavorful. If you order half a sandwich you’ll be disappointed because the full sandwich isn’t that big to begin with, it used to be much larger and more flavorful. I would say the same about the sweet potato pesto burrito, could hardly tell there was pesto and it needed a lot of salt and salsa, also wished for hot sauce. It’s just missing other flavors, it’s pretty boring. I hope that they revisit these menu items and try to make them what they used to be or offer something new and interesting to the vegans. Love the baked goods tho and hope to see more vegan croissants, selection has been more limited for the vegans lately.

Solid Food and Service - Edit
We stopped by here twice. The first time ended up just for a latte. My wife had been thinking of getting food, but we were informed they were putting together a large order and options were limited. The next day, we stopped in for brunch and … no bagels (still morning). I got sides of potatoes and tempeh sausage. Could’ve gotten the hash bowl that my wife got (and liked). Also had another latte, which was as good as yesterday’s. Service was stellar all around.

*editing to add: make sure you make the reuben VEGAN NO CHEESE- we got it a second time, ordered it over the phone as we grabbed it for the road when we were leaving town and they put cheese on it. we also had one of their pumpkin scones and it was awesome*

Also got some bread to go.

I believe the mood of the staff says a lot about a business. Everyone here seemed to be looking out for each other when I visited, even though it was super busy (with a line down the street!

Great place to visit with Omni friends - Edit
Loved the food, the service, the baked goods - delicious. It’s small so sometimes a table might be a wait but with it. I loved my vegan options and the rest of the family got their more traditional fare.

Good food & perfect Astoria vibe - Edit
A few solid vegan options, good size portions. Star of the experience was the vegan chocolate croissant and cinnamon roll. Some items can be spicy so if that’s not your taste, inquire about options.

Delicious Food, Friendly Service - Edit
This is a lovely bakery-cafe that's open from morning to mid afternoon. I had lunch here on April 22, 2024. I ordered the TLT, a take on the classic BLT except it was made with tempeh, lettuce and tomato. Absolutely delicious!
Read moreIt took a while for it to be prepared because it was quite busy at this hour. As I waited, I had a chance to look around the establishment. It gave me a good, comfortable vibe watching other diners enjoy the day and the freshly made bread. The atmosphere was busy, yet at the same time calming and relaxing.
The service at the counter was also great. Never feeling rushed to decide the person at the counter was happy to describe any item and let me know which were vegan or could be made vegan.
I will definitely be back here the next time I am in Astoria!
Pros: Friendly knowledgeable staff, An establishment with cool vibes

I ordered the Poet's Bowl, which includes seasoned black beans, brown basmati rice, and salsa served with Scorcher bread. I added tempeh. Nothing exciting, but it was filling.

Handmaid Veg Meals - Edit
We went at breakfast time and it was quite busy. The food was worth the wait. The portabella sandwich with caramelized onions was amazing. They also had a vegan burrito on their board that had yams and black beans which was also good. They also have soy and oat milk available for lattes.

Tasty, fast, and recommended - Edit
Delicious lunch, however small, even with two add-ons. Ordered the Poet’s Bowl with extra greens and sauerkraut. Flavors were fantastic. Presentation good. Food was served within minutes of finding a table even though the space was busy. I’ll definitely return, and order an additional side next time.

New menu items! - Edit
Every time we come to visit family, they take us here but I was not impressed in the past with only 2 vegan options that were not my preference. They now have 2 new options and I loved the yam burrito. It didn’t feel like the food was too heavy or oily which I appreciated.

Always visit when in Astoria - Edit
The tempeh Reuben is my favorite lunch here and I just discovered it can be ordered for breakfast too. Seems like there have been fewer vegan pastry possibilities lately, but the Cosmo cookie is, I think, pretty much always available and I really like it. We always come by the Blue Scorcher at least once when we visit Astoria.

The yam burrito is liiiiife - Edit
I’ve gotten several things here and enjoyed all of them. The yam burrito, the poets bowl, and the tempeh sandwich. Great coffee, service, and food! While this isn’t a full vegan establishment, I do believe it is vegetarian so that makes it a wee bit easier for us when ordering and possibly needing to change things on certain dishes.

Cute downtown cafe - Edit
Loved the food— as you’d expect, crowded on a Sunday morning. Got the two vegan options a on menu, both were very delicious. Was a bit disappointed with their lack of vegan pasty options and the latte we had tasted pretty burnt 🙁
