While not the cheapest of restaurants, Blue does offer a 100% vegan menu with western options, a fairly rare niche for Southeast Asia. Options like a mushroom-based mock KFC sandwich on a charcoal bun with vegan slaw. I’m not a huge fan of larger mushrooms and prefer them shredded in smaller doses like dumplings, but I had to try it anyway and quite enjoyed it. Maybe just a tad heavy on the mayo sauce which made it a bit too wet and messy to eat.
Read moreThe salted tempeh appetizer comes in a gigantic portion and is more of a dryer, crumbly tempeh than what I was used to. Still good, but it really should come with a chili dipping sauce of some kind.
The environment is cozy, modern, and charming in an IKEA minimalist kind of way. Polite staff and quick service are also a plus!

Maybe we had too high expectations. The mushroom burger wasn’t as good as we expected. Quite bland taste. The tempeh and rice dish was very delicious tho. The cake looked amazing but didn’t taste as good.

Probably the best vegan meal we have EVER had. We got the black magic burger which was truly magical, as were the chips that came with it, and the basil pesto pasta which was super tasty and a huge portion size 💪🏼 We also had to try the popcorn mushrooms that were coated in a really crispy, slightly spiced batter and the panggang tempeh, both dishes blew our minds with flavour!! Worth every penny.

This is the most enjoyable vegan meal I've had during my time in Penang, so far. The restaurant itself was inviting and relaxing; the menu varied enough to offer some interesting options, but not so big to be overwhelming. Every item I tried was delicious (Asam Spicy Ramen; Popcorn Mushroom; Creamy White Sauce Spaghetti, Blueberry Cheesecake and Mossy Double Chocolate Cake) - you could taste the time and care that had gone into looking after each ingredient. The staff happily accommodated my ask to alter my food choice from the menu and gave me some helpful tips on making vegan sauces and fermentation. Overall great value and memorable experience. Will visit again!

Every detail at Blue is carefully crafted, from the love infused free bottles of water (ask staff about this scientifically proven method of water charging), soaking and cleaning all their vegetables in homemade enzyme water to the very delicious meals.
Read moreWe tried the black vinegar rice set with a delicious broth that marinated the tofu and various mushroom, so good and typically of the region. We also had the flavourful curry dish which had monkey head mushrooms and peanut crackers, rice and lettuce on the side. Both were generous portions and really tasty.
We also ordered a marinated tempeh dish, it was also a highlight sauce was delicious and sticky. For dessert we tried the blueberry cheesecake, light and authentic - the cashew base so delicate, especially good as it was lighter than some of the heavier/ fattier vegan desserts.
Staff were so helpful, friendly and informative, friendly atmosphere inside and very calm. So great to hear the staff share about their heartfelt ethos to provide the best of everything for their guests.
Everything is made from scratch and some of the dishes take days to prepare. Such a great experience, highly recommend.

We had the black magic mushroom burger and the tempeh burger and both were wonderful. The food here is so healthy and delicious. Great quality all around. Nice service and atmosphere. We also tried the chocolate cake which was a nice small sweet treat. Good vibes in this place!

I am a Vegan. I came to Blue few days ago and it totally gave me a shock. The foods was incredible . I had the Curry Rice set and Savory yam roll was totally amazing!!! The price is so so reasonable.

Read moreI tried a lot of several dishes and everything was delicious. But like almost always as a tall European in Asia, I have to order at least 3 dishes to get full. So I have to pay around 60-80 Ringgit (~15 €), which is good for healthy food, but a little bit much for Malaysia.
The cakes are awesome but so small that I can eat them with one to two bites.
Pros: Very polite waiters, Chilling music (but every day the same), Very clean

Nice place, decor is nice if a little clinical. Some language barriers with the waiting staff led to us not getting quite what we wanted but obviously we are the tourists here and cannot expect everyone to speak English so not so much of a problem.

Had the charcoal burger which was tasty.
However, the main thing that really ruined our dining experience was the waiters running everywhere! Please, for your customers enjoyment, stop sprinting past everyone to get to the kitchen. It started off comical but quickly became very annoying and not very relaxing!
