Easy to find in Surfers’ Paradise - Edit
Having been to Blossoming Lotus in Newtown as well as their former store in Cabramatta (which had the best satay chicken skewers and rad-na), New South Wales; I was surprised that the Gold Coast branch menu had more options! Other than my regular curry puffs and pad see ew, I had to try their Thai milk tea and durian sticky rice with ice cream (which was delicious 🤤)! Their 14 dollar 3 choices with rice options from the hot bar is great for the on the go/takeaway.

Plant Based Thai on the GC - Edit
I had heard of this restaurant before travelling to the Gold Coast and was super happy to discover it was located less than a 5 minute walk from our apartment. Everything looked delicious. They also offer specials from their hot curry bar. I ordered the Penang curry off the menu, coconut rice and curry puffs. So delicious. There are so many Thai restaurants to choose from here but I loved that I could support an exclusively vegan/vegetarian restaurant with my holiday $$$.

Lovely and well priced restaurant - Edit
Restaurant was in great walking distance from the city centre and where we were staying in Surfers Paradise. Looked at the menu online to not realise they did great $14 dinners where you choose 3 dishes from the hot bar, served with rice. We didn't try anything else unfortuntely but would have loved to go through the awesome options on the menu!

Grumpy waiter - Edit
The shop was supposed to open at 5pm. The door was still locked and I was let in by a rude and grumpy man. Nothing was set up, I asked if I should sit outside for service and he replied yes. I waited for ten minutes and received no attention, though there were no other customers. I ended up leaving hungry. Just because a place is vegan doesn’t mean we should put up with treatment like this. The cleanliness of the place is questionable as well, looks grotty and could do with a good clean. There were also cigarette butts on the ground.

Yummy but small portions - Edit
We ordered the satay stir fry and pad Thai for mains. Both were very good and tasty but left us a little hungry still. We also had the coconut rice which was nicely done, and the fried ice cream for dessert. It uses coconut ice cream and I personally was a little disappointed, good flavour but a bit underwhelming. Overall I found the prices not that great for the serving sizes.

You must try the mini dim sims - Edit
Had a nice meal here the other night. Following the Buddhist philosophy of no garlic or onion in their dishes the flavours are a bit more subtle but enjoyable and you definitely feel light not heavy after eating. The mini dim sims in the steamer are really good, they’re a must.

Really good food - Edit
We started with the dim sims and steamed bun. Both delicious.
Read moreWe shared the Pad see ew and the three dish dinner combo (yellow curry, lemongrass curry and crispy soy). All full of flavour, veggies cooked to perfection with steamed rice.
I will definitely come back when on the Gold Coast next time.

Wanting to try more - Edit
We were only visiting Surfers, so had limited time to try. I am certain this would be a regular haunt if we lived there.
Read moreThere is a big menu which includes stir fries, spicy curries, fresh dim sims and lot of other items. Or you can select from the bain-marie, three main items (and it's pretty cheap). We had both takeaway and eat in.
Loved the laksa, was so tasty and had lots of veg (as well as mock meat). The spring rolls, with vermicelli inside were also yum, as was the cashew stir fry., The satay chicken was a standout. And the novelty of having fried ice-cream was exciting. The fried ice cream was pastry wrapped rather than batter, and a good choice.
The staff were so lovely. Inside and outdoor seating. They do charge an extra 50c for using cards, instead of cash.

Simple but satisfying - Edit
Enjoyed the food here, with typically delicious Thai flavours. While portion sizes were good, I found that all dishes we ordered contained basically the same vegetables, but with different sauces. Tables outside (on the footpath) were at quite an angle, with some risk of things slipping and sliding, though I suppose there's not much the restaurant can do about this. There's very little room to sit inside - perhaps a redesign of the interior to accommodate customers would help. Staff were friendly and helpful. The ambience was pleasant - slightly off the main road, so the vibe of the city was there, but the lane was relatively quiet. Very conveniently located on the tram line.
