Good main meals, desserts hit and miss - Edit
We came here twice and really enjoyed our main meals - highlights include the classic burger, golden tofu and kalasan rice set. The portions sizes were a bit small. However, the Black Forest cake was a bit stale and the cheese cake come out frozen (we told them about this and they said it’s meant to be like that, which seemed an unfair response as it wasn’t edible when it was first served to us). So desserts seem a bit more hit and miss. The place is a little dark but otherwise has an ok ambiance.

Great ambiance, good food - Edit
We had the teriyaki noodles and a soto. Those were both delicious. I would have loved some more vegetables in the noodles and the option to spice it up. The soup had so much flavor and was filled with vegan Protein. We did not enjoy the very very dry Brownie kukus. That could use some work.
Read morePros: Good tasting hot meals, The ambiance, Free of smoking and traffic
Cons: Please improve the kukus, The music was loud

The place I wish my home town had - Edit
Warm welcome, great range of food and the best frappe since I became vegan (5 years) and even vegetarian (35 years)! Yes, you can accidentally order too much fried food, but we took away cinnamon rolls for next day trips and the Soto was fantastic!
Read moreThen there are the staff..all super friendly...and hard working. One girl stood out in particular. Amazing!!
Lastly, ambience...really good music, chilled vibe. We managed to park close by too.
Hate that we don't have something like it where we live in the UK.
Pros: Menu range, Quality of food and drink, Staff
Cons: Took a while to find parking

Great place, if you pick the right combination! - Edit
Loads of choice. Lovely food. Lovely staff.
Read moreUnfortunately, we got
Over-excited with our choices, and bought a lot of beige stuff, generally deep fried.
To be clear: there’s a lot of choice, and we didn’t have to choose the combination. So just be careful out there…, and get some fresh choices into the mix!
Pros: The apple pie!, The staff, Chilled apple tea
Cons: Parking’s tough round there (go to road opposite), Can end up with lots of fried stuff, A few too many dishes unavailable

Tasty dinner - Edit
Fully vegan restaurant with a large menu.
Read moreI had bakmi Java and the mushroom skewers. The bakmi was really delicious but the skewers had a very strange taste to them so I unfortunately had to leave them. However, based on the bakmi I would definitely return to the restaurant.
Nice staff and environment.
EDIT- since leaving this review I have been back to the Black Forest Cafe to eat in and I also ordered a grab takeaway from there. Both of these times were very disappointing. The carrot cake had no flavour at all and the burger was fine but definitely nothing special. I’ve therefore removed a star (4 stars down to 3)

So good - Edit
We went there twice and tried:
Read moreSides
• fried enoki mushrooms (were okay)
• Tahu Cohol (fried Tofu; was okay, but a bit dry)
• Tempe Mendoan - highly recommend!! Big Portion, delicious
In my opinion there could be better sauces for all side dishes.
Main
• Vegan Soto was good
• Jamur Geprek was okay (mushroom was chewy and almost "raw" instead of crispy fried; not very spicy)
• Spaghetti Carbonara was good (sauce not reeeaally Carbonara-Style)
• Vegan Rendang was good but a small portion
• Caesar Salad (a bit disappointing; warm; small portion, plain/not pan-fried "chicken")
Dessert
•Cinnamonroll was good
Drinks:
• Oreo Vanilla Frappe, Frappuccino and Hazelnut Latte were delicious! Litchi chilled tea was okay (no litchi Taste, more like Kids toothpaste).
Staff is friendly and attentive; speaks english very well.
Pros: Affordable, Many options
