501 E Pine St (at Capitol Hill), Seattle, Washington, USA, 98122

A worker's cooperative cafe with a large open space, eclectic furniture, and lots of board games. The food is vegan, with sandwiches and pastries from local restaurants and cafes; eat them cold, or ask the staff to toast them. Sandwiches include: tofu lettuce tomato wrap, chiggen wrap, tempeh reuben, and seitan philly. Pastries include vegan donuts, cookies, sweet breads, scones, muffins, and cinnamon rolls. Because food is not prepared on-site, certain items sell out toward the end of the day. NOV 2014 REPORTED CLOSED - LOOKING TO RE-OPEN ELSEWHERE, PLEASE LET HAPPYCOW KNOW WHEN IT RE-OPENS!

Good experience - Edit

I only had a quick drink here (spicy apple cider) while meeting a friend, so I can't give too detailed a review. The atmosphere of the place was good though, with a lot of fairly varied people hanging around in a good-sized space with an upstairs area too. That said, if you're the kind of person who's likely to get nervous walking past groups of homeless people and punks to get into a coffeeshop, you might wanna keep in mind that you will probably have to do that here.

Coffee and Vegan favs - Edit

There was really nothing new to be found here. Their selection of vegan sandwiches/pastries/etc. can be found elsewhere in the city (though I'm glad they have a plentiful selection, it seems!), and their coffee is pretty standard Seattle coffee (so, in other words, it's good). The barista wasn't exactly the friendly type, and I got the feeling that I looked far too bourgeois to be a regular patron, but I appreciate its veganness so I'd probably go back if I happened to be nearby.

Pros: Vegan!!, sells my favorite vegan goodies, good coffee

Cons: unhappy-looking barista, capitalists beware

Go for the Coffee - Edit

I've gone here several times. I think I've tried everything on the menu. The food is so-so. They use a ton of meat substitutes and they're all dry and salty. The tempeh wrap is decent though. The one sweet I've had was pretty good. The Nanaimo bar is cloyingly sweet, but well executed. The coffee is good and it's always crowded with an eclectic mix of people. I'll go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Pros: Coffee, Crowded, Zines

Cons: Food, Crowded
