Good - Edit
This is probably the best place in Morgantown to get good vegan food. Staff is knowledgeable about veganism and very helpful. I got the Thai salad with tofu and it was delicious and healthy. This is the place to go if you are in this area. Beer is good too, plenty of local choices.

Great Vegan - Edit
Really good burritos with ‘facon’ and tofu as options. Really tasty bowls too. Build your own option makes your options unlimited. Also serves Athletic beers for those who have given up alcohol.

Surprisingly good burrito. - Edit
I didn’t have high expectations for this place, but I ordered the Hakuna Masala burrito vegan style and wouldn’t you know, it was pretty dang good. And the staff seemed to know what vegan was and how to make various burritos vegan. The one I had was flavorful and filling. No complaints.

Easy to customize - Edit
Very friendly staff, who was also very knowledgeable about vegan ingredients. I had a build your own burrito. Sriracha refried beans were excellent! Our meals came with chips on the side, not the slaw mentioned in the restaurant description.

Got the Irie Member with tofu, no dairy, add avocado. It was delicious! The guy at the counter was really helpful for making recommendations on which options were the best to make vegan. He also recommended a modified Thai bowl.

Meh - Edit
Maybe I’m spoiled living where I do, however in 2021 I expect that when I ask for no animal products, I get a non animal product subbed out. They make their burritos vegan by taking out the cheese, sour cream etc. No vegan cheese to be had. And then they make you pay $2 extra to add tofu….I had the Sargent Pepper, which was basically peppers, refried beans and rice with salsa on top. It was bland. The tofu was ok and I added the chipotle salsa ontop to give it flavour. It was filling, but not exciting. The server also told me that honey was debated by vegans as to if it was vegan or not……. Sigh.

Excellent - Edit
They are super vegan friendly at Black Bear. They have a few different vegan protein options including tofu and a smoked tempeh option. The man who took our order was on point. We stated that we were vegan and he was happy to modify/order our burritos to ensure they would be made with no dairy. They also cook their vegetarian/Vegan food on a separate grill. Loved this spot!

Good food, but slaw is not vegan - Edit
We were very hopeful, given the good reviews. And that hope continued when we talked to the counter staff, where you place your order. The staff seem to understand what “vegan” meant, and told us that the Thai burrito would be vegan if we order it with tofu instead of meat. And when my burrito came, I was a little concerned when I saw sauce over the top of it, but they assured me that if you order the burrito with tofu, it will be vegan. But the slaw on the plate was not vegan. Why?!?!?! They did offer me an extra empty plate, so that I could separate my burrito from the slaw, so that’s what I did.
Read moreThe burrito was delicious, with a Thai curry peanut sauce inside and out. The chips were fresh and crispy but I wish they came with salsa instead of slaw.
Pros: Tofu can be subbed, Clean, bright interior, Creative menu options
Cons: Slaw is not vegan, but it comes automatically , Serves meat

Not for me - Edit
Many people like Black Bear- and I do really appreciate that they will work with you to have a vegan meal. They do have tofu that can be added as a sub in all burritos. I am not crazy about the food here. If you like fusion food (think teriyaki burritos) than it’s for you! I have tried several times and while it’s good in a pinch, or with coworkers, it’s not my favorite. However, it’s a fun place with live music and beer.

Needs Vegan Sauces - Edit
I eat here frequently as I have very few options around town. The menu is large and the staff is educated about alternative diets and can always help you out! They would earn more stars from me if they had vegan sauces beyond salsa. Their Guac even has sour cream in it. I take my own ranch when I dine in.
