New all-vegan restaurant in YS - Edit
I went with vegans and non-vegans alike & everyone agreed the food was excellent. I had a comfort platter with Mac and cheese, greens and sweet potato. The greens were amazing. Other options include Pad Thai, Buddha bowl, African peanut soup etc. The owner also makes her own vegan ice cream.
Read moreMy only concern is they have been closed the past two weekends so hoping they will stay in business. It was quite busy when we were there so the town seems to appreciate their presence.
Pros: Menu is 100% vegan & very good, Owner is very friendly and explains her menu well
Cons: Hours fluctuate with unexpected closures, Service was spotty (they are a new restaurant)

Best Vegan Ice Cream of My Life! - Edit
My sister and I ordered the sushi roll and the tofu fried chicken. Both were really good, and I plan to go back many more times to try everything. Afterwards, we had the soft serve cinnamon and butterscotch twist, and it was the best vegan ice cream I’ve ever had! Cute place and amazing staff - I’m so glad to finally have a fully vegan restaurant in Yellow Springs 🌱

We ordered the sushi roll and fried “chicken” and both were excellent, especially the sauces for the tofu-based chicken. The staff were also so welcoming and friendly. Super happy we stopped in on our road trip!

My girlfriend and I split the large Ethiopian bowl for a great price. It was phenomenal. Best part was the owner, amazing woman who wanted to have good conversations. She has us try her cheese sauce and ice cream (best vegan versions of either that ice ever had) on the house. Great experience, will definitely be back soon.

Rotating menus are my JAM. I would eat here every week if I was a local. I love trying new things, and I get so burned out on vegan options being the same everywhere I go.
Read moreMy friend and I shared an absolutely delicious Ethiopian plate with misir wot (spiced red lentils), bozena shiro (chickpea sauce with seitan tibs), and ye'abesha gomen (stewed collards) served with injera. It was a wonderful array of interesting flavors and textures, everything was well balanced and spiced. We also had an incredible sweet potato stew. The portions are hearty, between the two of us we couldn't finish it all.
The highlight of my visit, though, was yet to come. Jane, upon learning that it was my birthday, brought me out a mini chocolate bundt cake with a scoop of coffee ice cream on top. The cakes were not yet a menu item, but something she happened to bake and have on hand. I would not have had cake on my birthday otherwise, this was hands down one of the kindest things a stranger has ever done for me. It brought a little magic to my special day that I hadn't felt since I was a child.
The cake and ice cream were heavenly. Rich in flavor and perfect in texture. Jeni's better watch out, because this stuff is dangerous. There is some kind of witchery at work in this kitchen!

Jane, the owner, took great care of us. The menu changes all the time and everything is vegan! The vibes of this place are immaculate. She also gave us free dessert, homemade bundt cake with coffee and cardamom ice cream. You will leave in a food coma, having spent very little.

Oh my goodness! My husband and I just got back from the Black Barn Veganry and all we can say is wow! He had the pad Thai, I had the be kind burger with sweet chili sauce, and we had the potato and leak soup and onion naan. While we waited they brought out a sample of some delicious cinnamon walnut bread, as well. The restaurant is tiny, but it packs a punch! I cannot recommend this enough. If you are vegan, you will love everything on their menu. If you’re NOT vegan, you’ll love everything on this menu! It appears to be a rotating menu, but thus far everything was delicious. Find time to go frequent this little bistro. The staff are so friendly; the chef came to talk to my husband about the heat for his Pad Thai so that he got exactly what he wanted! When you find places like this, with fantastic people who love their craft, you need to tell the world. 😀
