the best choice in town!! - Edit

The only 100% vegan and organic restaurant in Helsinki that offer one of the best buffets for couple of euros, definitely is one of the best, cheap and good options that you can get in Finland, in addition, you also can order some special meal, but highly i recommend to get the brunch on sunday. It is amazing. Also the atmosphere is great and I think run by the owner.

Tasty! - Edit

As the only all vegan restaurant in Helsinki, we had to go check it out. It was an easy walk from the metro station and you go down a few stairs to get inside. We arrived just after 7pm and there were customers at a couple of other tables, but they left and we were the only ones left as they close at 8pm, but they stayed open until we were completely done. The menu at the table is in Finnish, but they have an English menu available too. For appetizers, we ordered the vege sausage with hot sauce and the hummus with veggies. Both good. For main courses, we got the cheese fondue with bread and apples as well as the seitan with potatoes, zucchini and horseradish sauce. Both were fabulous! The fondue was out of this world good. I still dream of it. The horseradish sauce really made the other dish. Tasty! We finished off with the frozen chocolate tofu cafe with hot raspberry sauce. It was a strange texture at first with the frozen vs the hot, but we got used to it and the sauce was really good. Overall, we had a great experience and appreciate they stayed open for us. Definitely check it out!

Pros: all vegan, tasty food, nice staff

BIG disappointment ! - Edit

this place isn't good. i've been there 2 times for lunch and once in the evening and once tried the brunch. the starters were good but the main courses were amazingly crappy considering the prices. the seitan steak was dry, and all in all the quality was similar to school food. we tried the hot dog also and it was just a basic vegan sausage in a bread with curry sauerkraut and nothing else. the cheesecake we had for dessert was a disappointment as well, it had a weird texture. the lunch buffet is good for the price but nothing special. the brunch on sundays is just about the same as the lunch but with doubled price. i would give it 0 stars if it was possible. i've tried lots of vegan restaurants abroad and this one in helsinki is in the top five of the worst ones.

Pros: good starters, at least they try

Cons: expensive a la carte and brunch, mostly bad food, slow service

SaZu 22 Feb 2013 - Hi IppI, we are very sorry to hear that our menus do not meet your quality standard. I would like to point out a couple of things in you rewiew. First, Hot Dog is worldwide a sausage with/in a bun with different sauces. Our Dog was offered with the curried sauerkraut or apple chutney and a small side salad, chili sauce and mustard. Very basic, but the price was also very moderate. Unfortunately organic vegan sausages are here so much more expensive than "normal" sausages and so we couln`t sell our dog with the same price as other carnivore snack bars. And we never had a cheese cake in our menu. You might have mistaken our FROZEN tofu-chockolade cake as a cheese cake, and if you expected to get a soft cake and got a frozen cake instead, the texture might have been confusing. And last but not least, our Sunday Brunch is much bigger than the everyday lunch: it has more different salads, plenty of fruits, warm courses, cereals, muesli, berries, nuts, dried fruits, vegan yoghurt, juices and a dessert. So we actually offer a breakfast and lunch as brunch is supposed to be!

Salty, but not so tasty disappointment - Edit

Artesana serves a school dinner like lunch buffet, with a lot of salt and zero spices. I would definitely not take a sceptic carnivore here! The salads where ok, but as I went there two days in a row, I found a yesterday's salad being served as a warm food the next day... yammy! All of us 3 got stomach issues from the food. The athmosphere and service was not what I expected in a cheap vegan place in Sörkka...

Pros: Vegan, Salads

Cons: Too much salt, no spices, Boring food, Service

SaZu 13 Jun 2013 - Hi, thank you for your rewiew and as an owner of Bistro Artesana I am sorry to hear that we could not meet your standard. Anyway, I would like to correct in your rewiew one thing that is not true and could be very harmful for us: WE DO NOT USE PREVIOUS DAY'S INCREDIENSE IN NEXT DAYS LUNCH! First of all, salads are spiced with a salad sauce, so they cannot be used as a warm meal later and second, usually we do not have so much leftovers that we could use it next day as a full meal. It it possible though that there was for example beans or lentils on the salad buffet one day and beans or lentils in a main course next day. But they have been new ones, not the same that had been in the buffet.

Must visit - Edit

This is a must visit restaurant for all veggies in Helsinki. The lunch is high quality and surprisingly cheap. Only 8,5euro for salads, soup, hot meal and coffee/tea. I can say that this price is bargain in Finland where everything costs..
They have also a great "a la carte" menu. For example, seitan roast, was the best meal I had ever eaten in a restaurant.

I highly recommend this restaurant for all. Even though it is not located in the centre of the Helsinki, it is very easy to find. For example, by metro from the center, take a metro towards east and hop out in the station in Sörnainen. The closest bar you can see to from the big road named "Hameentie" is an irish pub called O'Parnells, Artesana is right next to this bar in a downhill (Kulmavuorenkatu).

Tasty - Edit

What a surprise! A new vegetarian restaurant in Helsinki. The only one with a la carte dining in the evenings! I immediatley checked out the lunch buffet when I learned about the place. The food was tasty and reasonable priced. Nice atmosphere.

Pros: tasty food, vegan and organic, evening dining possibility

Cons: should have been established earlier
