vegan but not healthy - Edit
nice atmosphere but usual tinned microwave food nothing special

...that's not true. I know the owners and chefs that work in this kitchen and everything is freshly made down to the sauces and I happen to think it's all delicious!
Read morePlus it's not unreasonably priced, most expensive item on menu is £9 and for a small, independent business serving up freshly made, thoughtful food with generous portion sizes I think this is more than fair!
Had to say something because reviews like this are damaging to small businesses and although you're of course entitled to your opinion the microwave comment is simply not true!

Just the job on a cold and wet Sunday morning - Edit
We arrived here late Sunday morning, cold and wet, and it really proved to be a great oasis for us. We really enjoyed our food (the menu is vegetarian/vegan) and the garlic mushrooms have taken on near legendary status they were that good!

Wheelie good food! - Edit
Nice little cafe located just outside the main centre. We visited here recently during the week and it was packed. Luckily we got a table. All the food was labelled and I decided to get the pulled jackfruit ciabattta with slaw, which was delicious. My wife got the vegan breakfast, which she wasn't too keen on as there was a slight sourness to some of it. Personally I thought it was ok and particularly liked the bubble and squeak and patties, but I have had much better vegan breakfasts elsewhere. My wife did however love the vegan chocolate, courgette and vanilla cake and said it was quite possibly the best cake she has ever had. In total we spent £22 including drinks. The staff were very welcoming and and we will definitely return again.

Yikes, Bikes and Tykes - Edit
A very nice bike shop, selling bikes and bike related accessories with a cracking veggie cafe mixed in for good measure. I have to admit, the original intention was to find the place, take a few pictures from outside, upload them to the Happy Cow app then run. No way was this going to happen. Once we saw the warm, inviting and colourful cafe, we were drawn in. The coffee was seriously excellent. No problem getting soya or almond milk here. How could you have coffee without cake? No issues here, the vegan courgette and chocolate cake will have to do. What a cake. One of the best ever. Arriving at 11:30 on the Sunday before Christmas we had no problem getting a seat. By the time we left at 12:30ish, the place was packed. Fabulous smells emanated as we left. Absolutely sure to be back for perhaps a vegan breakfast or lunch in the near future.

Consistently Excellent - Edit
Plenty of clearly marked options on the menu. Yet another place that demonstrates that vegan cakes make veggie alternatives look like a joke. Sells cycles too, which took some chewing (avoid the leather seat). Often more tables needed instead of cycles now, given its popularity. Well worth the journey anyway. Brilliant. Packed at busy times.

Cons: Away from tourists, , have to disturb others for condiments , vegan breakfast needs hmm avocado or some other "f

Best vegan food in York - Edit
Of all the veggie places we tried over our weekend stay in York, this had the best vegan food by far. It was hearty and very tasty. The place is small and a little out of the way, but well worth the visit. The service was extra-friendly. And don't miss the vegan carrot cake!
