Wildly helpful staff - Edit
Visited yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the detailed talk through of everything vegan, I was only grabbing a coffee and cake too. Obviously everything from betty’s is delicious, it’s betty’s. I went for a fruit loaf and coffee, there were some lunchtime vegan savoury and sweet options though.

Much better than expected/used to be - Edit
Bettys never used to have anything vegan, but this one has clearly marked options on the menu, and even a vegan cake!
Read moreThere is often a long queue to get into the Bettys at the entrance to Harlow Carr, but if you have paid to get into the gardens, you can go to the smaller Bettys shack which has much the same food but fewer people.
I recommend the gugelhupf, a small German-inspired carrot cake with icing with a delicious alternative milk coffee.
Pros: Clearly marked options on menu, Great gugelhupf, Good coffee
Cons: Not the cheapest place on earth!

Pricey but lovely food - Edit
Clearly marked vegan options on the menu. Good choice of dishes. Lovely tea to drink. At table service. We had to wait 45 minutes in a queue for a table. Delicious food and good portions.
Read moreThe vegan breakfast was unusual and delicious with a lovely potato rosti and aubergine “facon”. The carrot cake was very sweet but delicious. The green tea was a delight and came in a teapot with with a strainer and extra hot water.
Free parking and you don’t need to pay for garden entry to access the cafe and garden centre.
There is also a small takeaway cafe in the grounds, which requires an entry ticket, with a smaller selection but again clearly marked dietary options.
