If you want some vegan food you need to book their afternoon tea in advance. Otherwise you will only be able to get a drinkštheir peach blossom herbal tea was very good. They also sell a few things such as tea to bring home, jams etc.

Traditional teas served using old fine bone china etc, lovely authentic 50ās ambiance. Not really vegan options on menu, but I asked and had an excellent beetroot chutney and salad sandwich and a vegan scone with non-dairy butter and plenty of jam! No vegan cakes yet but sometimes vegan anzacs. A few doors further up is a modern plant-based cafe but Bessieās was great for meeting non-vegan friends. Also they will do vegan version of afternoon tea but it needs booking in advance. For vegetarians the toasted cheese scones looked pretty awesome!!

Nov 2025 update:- Now EVEN better with a good vegan section in their new menus, the sandwiches are great, the vegan cheese scones are to die for. Love this place!! winter opening hours worth checking, ring them as they do close on some early week days as do most local seaside eateries. PS. there is a car park within 100 yds.
