I’ll say the food is pretty good the only thing issue is the wait time for the food we were told 25 mins and that turned in a hour wait !!!

Great dive place! - Edit
I credit Bean with keeping me vegan for the last few years. Every now and again I feel a little down about not participating in all the food happenings with friends but Bean always pulls me back. It’s basically vegan junk food. Very little here would I qualify as healthy but it’s all pretty delicious and extremely satisfying. The people are great but the wait can be long. There’s a reason. It’s good food.

vegan junk food and soul food - Edit
We went for brunch last weekend and loved the brunch bowl and the meatloaf with sides: mac and cheese, collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy.
Read moreI would’ve liked some vegetables in the brunch bowl, it was delicious but very brown and tan. I will add some sautéed veg next time to brighten it up.
Everything is a touch under seasoned. Needed a little salt or hot sauce.
Overall we loved it and will be back!!
Pros: all vegan! , huge menu
Cons: lots of tempting vegan junk food (fried)

I've been going to Bean since it opened and have yet to be disappointed. It is the place to go for vegan comfort food. The Reuben us amazing! The burgers are creative and filling. I never leave hungry.

Vegan Southern Mama’s kitchen - Edit
I absolutely devoured the side of mashed potatoes and gravy. I usually try to balance out my unhealthy side by ordering steamed kale for my second side dish. For the main course I usually get a salad or the tacos. I’ve visited Bean dozens of times and have done take out as well. I think some of the reviews are a bit too critical, it’s like going to a romcom movie but you were expecting it to be a thriller. Set your expectations... this vegan food isn’t super health conscious, but it is done well. I do wish they had gluten free burger options. Overall you always feel welcome and the service is quick. They have free bumper stickers and they’ve now opened a vegan store at the back.

Bean is Great - Edit
I know there have been a lot of negative service reviews here, but I've been eating here consistently for 4.5 years.... and I love Bean.
Read moreThe owner/managers Roy and Charlie have always been very nice to us. The staff rotates often and that can make it a little inconsistent, but we've never had any experiences similar to what has been described here.
What we have noticed is a lot more foot traffic over the past 18 months, maybe that is driving some of the bad experiences for others.
Give them a chance, the food is great comfort food. It may not be very juice bar vegan, but it satisfies what they aim to do.
Best dishes: Bean bowls, tofu fingers, brunch, and the reuben.
Pros: Fantastic menu, I've eaten every item, Heavy comfort food, Committed to the cause
Cons: Service can vary

BEST FOOD WE HAD IN NC - Edit
now I'm going to start with the bad so I can get to the good. Yes, the service is not great they might forget about you(like they did with us) or take way too long and that is made clear in the other comments. Now thats the way the food was BOMB! It was just good vegan food it was good american food. and if you are there YOU NEED to get the raspberry cake if was life changing ! everything we had was so good and by far the best meal we had while visiting North Carolina. Again I would of gave it 5 stars but unfortunately, the service was poor.

Good food - Edit
My first time at a vegan restaurant and I was so excited. The food definitely didn't disappoint. Love the cool interior and the store with hard to find vegan items. The employees however could stand to be a little friendlier.

Disappointing - Edit
Read the negative reviews on Facebook. It's telling that the owners don't even bother to respond. I hate to say anything bad about a business online, but I ate here for the first time and wasn't impressed. They rely on Daiya cheese for everything and the food is really greasy. The whole operation felt really uninspired. Friends warned me it wasn't good, but I trusted all the positive reviews here. Paid $15 (including tip) for a lousy Reuben sandwich and fries. Left feeling very disappointed.

First Time - Edit
My husband and I ordered take-out during our visit to Charlotte. We ordered a variety of items since it was our first time. The items were: the cowboy burger, quesadilla, fishless filet sandwich, and the BBQ jackfruit sandwich, along with a side of fries, mac and cheese, and red beans and rice. We absolutely LOVED the fishless filet and cowboy sandwich. Those two are definitely must-haves! The BBQ jackfruit didn't have much flavor to us. The mac and cheese was a little on the sweet side in my opinion. The red beans and rice lacked that spicy flavor I was hoping for. Overall, the experience was good. If we lived in Charlotte, this would most definitely be one of our favorite restaurants to dine. The service was good and everyone was very kind.

Great alternative - Edit
I have visited Bean several times during my visits to Charlotte. The desserts are my favorite by far but many of the entrees are delicious too. The chili cheeseburger special was amazing. If you have friends or family that are not vegan but enjoy burgers, this is a good restaurant where everyone can be satisfied.

Two words: cowboy burger!!! Guys, if you're looking for the best place to spend a cheat meal or looking for the best burger in life...GO TO BEAN. Being vegan never tasted so good. They also have their own little vegan market in the restaurant which is pretty darn cool. Get the cookie dough, and don't bake them because cookies are over rated ?

Delicious SAD (Standard American DIet) Vegan food - Edit
Great veganized American food...like the unhealthy, tasty stuff without the cruelty. I opt for the jalapeno cheddar burger (the fried jalapenos should be offered as their own appetizer) and tater tot casserole or kale for the days i need greens. Also a big fan of the buffalo tofu fingers.

Very good - Edit
After battling terrible traffic like other users mentioned, and a long wait time time after we ordered, our food arrived and we were happy with it. Nice to have so many vegan options. The best part of the restaurant is the vegan grocery shop - so many specialty items you really can't find many places. Decor is unique too. We've been to both this one and the Asheville location. Enjoyed both. Happy to have these vegan options for comfort food items.

Great food/Not so great service - Edit
I have been coming to Bean for about a several months now. The food is delicious, my non vegan family loves it as well. The teriyaki tofu fingers are my favorite along with the fried pickles. The service is not very good. Every time I come, we will have several people waiting on our table and it always takes forever to get our ticket. The wait staff is not always that attentive and I end up apologizing to the people I bring along with me. The staff is friendly but they really need to work on their service skills.

horrible - Edit
I've tried this place twice, hoped that the first time was a bad day, but the food was still horrible, taste like the poured a bucket of salt on all that I had. The person that took my order kept saying "if you are not use to vegan food you may have trouble with the taste", I explained to her that I have been a vegan since 2008. I travel with my job, and always go to Happy Cow to see what's close to where I am. Noticed that people that were coming in after me were leaving, went up to ask after waiting 45 mins for my food, when asked if the boxes I was looking at was mine, the person said "yeah, but I didn't take your order, so I didn't know who that was".
