Nice staff but not really sure what vegan means

I had a nice chat with the guy working there. Tried the raspberry ice cream and it was yummy! Would have felt like the strawberry chocolate chip but when I asked the gentleman he didn't really know what chocolate chips they are using so possibly they have dairy in them! And if you look for fair trade you probably also want to go for another flavour.

Pros: Yummy coco based ice cream

Cons: Not many choices for vegans, They don't seem to know what vegan means

We have six flavours of vegan ice creams - they are completely animal product free. The chocolate chips in the Strawberry Coconut with Dark Chocolate Chunk flavour are vegan. We also have 2 flavours of vegan ice cream sandwiches.

Thanks for the clarification! When I asked about the chocolate chips the gentleman wasn’t sure. Great to know they are. So people, go for it! I’m sure it’s super tasty! Shame I’m too far away by now.

Multiple vegan options, all tasty treats!

So Beach Treats is a bit of a hidden gem here in Tamarindo. The main operation is from the crazy golf course, where you can pick up ice-cream all day long. But they are also stocked in a few different places too. I've updated the listing to show their main place but other places you can find their icecream being stocked include:

• Bolas Locas Mini Golf, Pimienta Verde, Bakery Bistro Nicolas (Tamarindo)
• Agua y Sal, La Oliva (Brasilito)
• Costa Rica Sailing Centre (Portrero)
• Marie's Restuarant (Playa Flamingo)

I also found them at the Tamarindo Night market (held in Plaza Palmas on a Thursday Night 6-9pm)

So what's so good about this ice cream?? Well, alongside the regular variety, they stock vegan ones too! It's super simple, delicious coconut milk-based ice cream in a variety of flavours. I found the ice-cream to be a little more on the icy side, which was a good thing for me - It reminded me of the traditional Italian ice-cream I used to get from an ice-cream parlour run by a first generation Italian family in Southampton, England.

Our family has been aruging about which Beach Treats flavour is best, my husband favours the coconut-lime (lime ice-cream is heavenly and not a common flavour, we've found!), my daughter adores the raspberry-ripple kind, and my favourite would have to be the strawberry with dark- chocolate chip. I believe there are boozy options as well, but I didn't sample those since I don't drink.

They even had a coconut-lime cookie sandwich, which was pretty delicious too! It's all hand-made with minimal ingredients, which is fab for people like us who try to limit highly processed foods wherever possible. I can't help but love small businesses like this, where people make great products for a good price without cutting corners.

Depending on where you pick their ice-cream up from, you might be able to get larger tubs of ice cream to stash in your freezer at home (this is definitely the case for Pimienta Verde in Tamarindo).

I absolutely recommend checking out Beach Treats if you're in the area! I don't think you'll be dissapointed :)

Pros: Loads of vegan options, delicious, vegan ice cream... what's not to love?!
