CLOSED: Be Happy Bar

I was really happy to find this place. Nice atmosphere, super friendly staff who spoke English and offered an English menu. However, the food was not great. The soup was ok, I couldn't bring myself to eat the main dish (way too heavy on the mock meats), the French fries seemed to be just frozen supermarket fries. I actually also got violently ill after eating this food, which made me fear I was served REAL meat - although I doubt it because the staff were very knowledgable. While we sat there, we noticed some ants crawling on us. I travel the world so I'm not too squeamish about insects but it was itchy and felt unclean. I would say that the fresh juices were great except that when I finished off my carrot juice I found a dead ant floating in the bottom of the glass. I feel bad being this honest about my experience here because the staff was super friendly! Animal rights literature on the table as well, which is always cool. The desserts were pretty good and nicely presented. All in all, I would love to support this place but it's simply unappetizing.

I went to Be Happy Bar several times and I loved it every time. The food is kind of bistro-y, and everything tastes really great. Recently they went 100% vegan and they have many good choices. They staff is very friendly and the environment very pleasant. Will go back many times more.

I had the francesinha and I was really impressed, it was both flavoursome and filling. My girlfriend had the curry which I tasted quite decent. It was neither cheap nor expensive and the staff were very welcoming. Would definitely go again.

I had the choice between just two dishes. I took a curry and tasted very well. There was also a lot of curry on the plate and few rice, not the other way around as it is usually.
You can easily tell that this place is run by vegans by heart as there are books and flyers about politics and animal rights.
They also serve filtered water as they don´t want to participate in the plastic bottle madness.
The waitress was really friendly and gave me good advice on what to choose.
The curry came within seconds, for the cake I had to wait quite long.
I would rate it inexpensive as the lunch main dish was only 6€.

I absolutely love this place! The staff is really friendly and nice, the food is delicious, the price is affordable and the music is excellent!

They have the BEST SUSHI ever, I kid you not!! Do try!

They even have gluten-free options :D

Mmmm I wish I could eat here every day. The food here was delicious! I tried the vegan burger, which was perfectly burger-y and huge and just all-round yum. I also tried the vegan francesinha and this blew me away! Such a perfect mixture of flavours and, again, it was huge! I had never had a sandwich like this before and I definitely feel like I've been doing sandwiches wrong my whole life ;)

They just went 100% vegan last Saturday, score! Vegan cheesecake was delicious.
First time in Lisbon second vegan joint I've tried after food temple. So far this is my favorite.

What are you waiting for go enjoy their yummy food.

I brought two newly vegan friends here and they LOVED it! The food was delicious, service was great and the staff were really friendly. Will definitely be back :)

Wow, It took me 3 months to try Be Happy Bar after I found out it existed.. I regret it now!

Some background before I start.. I find that most portuguese Vegan and Vegetarian restaurants are not restaurants but canteens. I hate restaurants that use the same sides for every dish and I also dislike buffets.. and that makes 90% of the restaurants here, which really disappoints me.

Well, Be Happy is none of the above, it's actually a real bar/restaurant with real food, really good food.

I tried the "Vegan Francesinha" and the "Vegan Prego" and they were both awesome, really tasty, fresh and the price was completely fair. I also had a "Vegan Cochinha", that I also enjoyed. Drank a beer and a natural fruit juice and ended my meal with a Vegan cheesecake. All this for 22€ (2 pax).

The owners are Vegan, really nice and told me that the restaurant is becoming Full Vegan soon, which is also great. They also seem to make lots of vegan special events at the restaurant premises.

Basically.. I really enjoyed it and I will surely be back often. I'd advise every Vegan that comes to Lisbon to try it.

Ambiente acolhedor, o casal proprietário são muito simpáticos e a comida é uma maravilha. Experimentamos muitas coisas. Coxinhas veganas,crepes com molho agridoce, peixe vegano,e um cheesecake vegano maravilhoso, nem o verdadeiro é tão bom
pois este cheesecake não tem o tal queijo. Recomendo a todos. O nome já Diz tudo. Um lugar para estar feliz com certeza. Voltarei

Loved it! The burguers were delicious! The owners very friendly and nice. Recommend it, good option. I'll return for sure!

After a long walk, a very long walk, from Princesa do Castelo it was so good find Be Happy Bar. A very friendly place with seating for 20+ in a less touristy part of the city not too far from the Pont 25 Abril near the river. We opted for the burgers and fries and what an awesome choice. The burgers were huge and remained succulent to the last. They were in fact double burgers and so big that you had to eat them with a knife and fork. Washed down with a glass of wine and some sparkling water, the whole score was €19. Very happy to be at the Be Happy Bar.
