Vegan BBQ? Heck yeah! - Edit
This was some of the best vegan food I've ever had. BBQ is obviously not an easy thing to come by when you're vegan so this was awesome! Mac and cheese on a sandwich? HECK YEAH!

I really want to love it, but I don't - Edit
I love that this place has such a great vegan menu and a dedicated grill. I don't love the flavors, presentation, or choices. I really wanted to love the food, but I didn't. I found myself thinking I could make the same at home. However, if you're looking for a good BBQ place for your vegan and meat-loving friends, this may be the place since they have options for both. I love having vegan options in town so I think it's great that it exists as an option, but I want to like it more than I do. My husband loves this place though and likes the vegan spicy bbq sauce on everything he orders.

Hard to feel deprived - Edit
I’m fairly new to this vegan thing, and I went to BBQ4Life three times before daring to review it. I love this place. Maybe it’s because of pandemic turnover, but I’ve found complaints about the staff unfounded. Everyone is super nice, and all of the mains I’ve ordered (tempeh sandwich, vegan nacho, greens and beans burger) have been great. Heck, the burger was as good as any meat one I’ve ever had. The only disappointment I’ve had was the one time I had the Mac and cheese side, but everything else makes me feel great about this being near work.

The potato salad was delish. Had the vegaloaf sandwich was expecting the tempeh to be overpowering but it blended in so well had to look to see if any was there! The Bread Pudding!!😋 Didn't expect much but was very good!

5 stars - Edit
The food is so yummy! I want to give it 5 stars because my omnivore teenagers were also impressed. I love that they have such an extensive vegan menu. The pumpkin spice bread pudding was incredible!

Go here they said...I was disappointed! - Edit
This was the first place I went to when I arrived in Boise. I read that they had award winning food and vegan options. Some bragged in their bbq like it was the best ever. Even saw them in the paper. However when I went there it was nothing like I had heard. I had the sandwich with the macaroni on it and it was dry and very unflavored except for a smokey flavor bbq taste and garlic powder. Each time the sandwich was really dry. The macaroni can only be described as bland mac with garlic powder to fool your tastebuds into thinking its flavorful. I was very disappointed in this place. Not award winning in my opinion. Extremely mediocre. I went there three times. Once alone and then twice with friends because they had heard the same great reviews and my co workers love this place. I’d personally will never go back. If you love this food it’s because you have not had good vegan bbq and mac. I was even disappointed in the soda I ordered that was not very good and I think to myself. how can you make a soda not taste good. Idk. I have not been back for any of their vegan options. Nothing vegan at this place made me want to return. There are way better options at other places. But hey it’s a Boise favorite so maybe my taste buds are bougie but I know good food and this isn’t it.

My favorite - Edit
This is a great place to go if you have omnivores with you. I've had every vegan item on the menu and the only thing I didn't enjoy was the greens and beans burger. Everything else is amazing though! My staples are vegan nacho fries, tempeh salad with cashew dressing, and vegan bread pudding a la mode 😍

Anything vegan this place makes is pure gold. My favorite is the Bigfoot sandwich and the chocolate cake is to die for! One of the best places in Boise for vegan BBQ

Wish I could give 5 stars. They have an opening expansive vegan menu with thoughtful options. They recently started serving breakfast and have 3 vegan options to choose from. My family and I live in Boise and come here often.

Good vegan options - Edit
Got the smoked tempeh sandwich. Flavor was good, but sandwich was dry. Even though it was marked as “spicy slaw” there wasn’t much flavor. Vegan potato salad on the side was great. Was worried about it being an omni BBQ place, and the potential smell of meat. Wasn’t an issue, but if you get really grossed out by watching people eat meat, I’d go elsewhere.

Amazing Food and Great Options - Edit
The ability to go there with friends who aren't vegan and have them get amazing food for them is a plus. The nachos are amazing and the smoked spaghetti squash sandwich is very good.

Hit and miss... - Edit
The nachos were good! I got the pork & potato salad sandwich and if was great(hit!)My friend and I both got the Mac & cheese as a side and did not like it at all(big miss). They don’t use earth balance or other non diary butter, all the fat is from coconut oil and you can tell. The sauce was boring and not creamy. (It honestly tastes like coconut oil & nutritional yeast) My friend got tacos, one veggie and one meat. The veggie one was also a miss for us. They have vegan and non vegan bbq sauces for sale but we’re all out of the vegan ones so i wasn’t able to take any with me.

Great food and great service - Edit
This place is great. A large section of vegan options (the potatoe salad and bread pudding were unreal). To top it off, the service was absolutely excellent. And my omni parents loved both the vegan and non vegan food they tried.

The vegan bbq is ok. I would prefer it if they used soy curls instead of tempeh. Love the vegan nachos.

Best vegan food in town - Edit
I’ve been to vegan optioned restaurants across the US and abroad, and this is the best bang for your dollar. Great menu, great deserts (bread pudding a must). Not full vegan but has separate grills and best bet in Boise. great place to change meat eaters minds and kosher.

Not really worth it - Edit
It’s way to expensive for the quality of food..if it was more affordable this might be a go to spot because it is cool they have so many vegan options but the taste of the food isn’t worth the money they are charging for it.

Pretty bland - Edit
I have been here twice, got nachos without the chili you can add which were pretty good & a gluten free macaroni bbq tempeh sandwich which was really bland. The noodles were flavorless & equivalent to plain boiled noodles and the tempeh was flavorless too. The bbq sauce should have been the flavor saver but it soaked into the bread too fast, & there wasn't a lot. The scoop of mashed potatoes was really good.
Read moreIt was really crowded both times around 12pm people would walk in and back out because there was no seating left. It's a pretty small space.

Good, but not great - Edit
We were visiting Boise and someone recommended this place. I was super excited about the vegan foot sandwich, and while it was good, it wasn’t superb. Spicy coleslaw and cornbread were good. I’d give 3.5 stars if I could, but alas.

bbq is all about flavor - Edit
I find the food here super bland. I’ve tried three different dishes on 3 separate occasions and some even years a part and every single time the food has literally zero flavor.
Read moreThe atmosphere is ok. The picnic style tables are cute but the benches are really uncomfortable (my 12 year old complained that the benches were digging into his legs and hurting him).
Because they also serve meat bbq, the restaurant smells terrible and made me lose my appetite pretty quick. “Why don’t you take the food to go,” you ask... well I have. It took me about 7 minutes to get from the restaurant to my destination to eat. After one bite I wasted the food by throwing it away because I found it inedible. UPDATE: I finally found a dish that didn’t suck. Tempeh Salad.
Pros: Vegan menu, vegan dessert
Cons: no flavor, no greens , restaurant smells like death

BEST NACHOS - Edit
I'm Canadian, but every year we go to Boise, and we always eat at BBQ4LIFE at least once. The nachos are incredible. Various sandwiches I've tried were good, but not amazing. The vegan mac and cheese was VERY disappointing, which was a surprise to me because the cheese sauce on the nachos is so good. We keep going back because of the nachos, to be honest!

Friendly and timely food with vegan section on menu and amazing chocolate cake. Moderate prices. Food is quite good (Go for some spaghetti squash 😋) and not overly fancy. I often enjoy an extra side of bbq sauce. Daily specials keep the menu alive. A staple eatery for us!
