Basic Bio Bistro

I live in Munich and everytime I´m near the bistro and hungry, this is my favorite place to go.

The food is yummie and affordable (vegetarian main course 8,50€ - that´s pretty okay for Munich)

All the food is organic. They have also a good salad buffet, but this is a bit more expensive.

They also serve fish and meat, so if you are a group of people and not everyone is a veggie, the meat-eating people will also be happy.

This can only receive two stars since it is rather bland food and in contrast to all the amazing vegan food that is available, it does not shine at all. In addition, when we asked down in the bakery counter what was vegan, the person behind the counter was dismissive and unfriendly. It is an okay place to eat if you need something and nothing else is open or available. The servers upstairs in the cafeteria area were friendly and helpful.

I eat here about 75% of the time when I am in Munich. Despite the fact that it is expensive (in particular the food that is weighed), I love the concept of this restaurant. They have daily vegan soups which, for which the large size is MASSIVE. My favourite was always the lentil-pumpkin (linsen kürbis) cream. Yum! They have a vegan special of the day, but I would always go for the food by weight. There is a hot bar and a cold bar, with many vegan preparations of fresh organic vegetables, grains, sauces, salads. Everything is really nicely seasoned and it is nice to be able to choose the amounts you want of everything that you eat.

The best part is that the cafe is conveniently situated on the first floor of an amazing, two-story bio (organic) supermarket, where you can do all of your shopping for later. A Munich staple!

I would give this place 5 stars, but Happycow wouldn't let me because it is not fully vegan.

Basic Bio Bistro is an organic cafeteria in the second floor of the Basic Supermarket. It has two salad/anti-pasta bars and usually a selection of 4 dishes: two vegetarian, two with meat/fish and a selection of 3 grains to go with that. The salad bar is good (but not excellent) and the dishes are all very yummy. The salad bar is weighed (expensive) but the dishes are fixed price (affordable). I like the food quality alot as it is all organic and tastes good.

Basic Bio is a colourful veggie / vegan paradise but it sells organic meat and fish. Apart from that there are some amazing products on offer that are hard to find in other smaller wholefood shops.
