Hidden gem - Edit
A genuine surprise in the middle of Newcastle. Just had the most amazing lunch, all prepared in the most humble of kitchens. I'll be making this my main lunch haunt from now on.

The Pied Piper - Edit
Fully vegetarian and hugely vegan friendly. All cakes are vegan and home made. Relaxed basement spot via the Elula fair trade gift and holistic therapy shop. We shared an absolutely delicious almond latte cake with a couple of coffees. Mighty good coffee it was too. Next time I’d like to visit a bit earlier and get stuck into some of their savoury delights.

Decent quiet hideaway - Edit
Basement of a holistic shop is this secret coffee shop. Serving a mostly vegetarian and vegan menu which seems to vary most days. Good selection of teas and deserts. All homemade and reasonably priced.

Lovely little peaceful haven - Edit
A small place hidden away beneath a shop in the town centre. Relaxed, cosy feel, with nice decor. Always clean. Friendly efficient service. Range of options, from toasties to bigger meals like burgers or curry. Serves meat, but most options seem to be veggie and vegan. I've been told all the deserts are vegan. The food is tasty and reasonably priced, and it's a nice quiet place to get away from the crowds in town.

Going Underground - Edit
Situated downstairs Basement Snaxx is a kooky little cafe with plenty of character and a variety of vegan options. When we visited with our son we ordered the Thai noodles with crabby cake and pie and peas. The dishes were freshly prepared and although I quite enjoyed the spice and freshness of the Thai noodles and nicely seasoned crabby cakes, my wife wasn't too keen on the pie and peas, as the peas were rather sweet and pie sadly a bit burnt. There was no kids high chair either making it difficult to fully enjoy our meals. It would be great if next time we visit this small improvement could be made, as the staff are very friendly and the menu is worth exploring further.
