Vegetarian bar with a separate vegan menu. An upstairs restaurant serving homestyle foof: rations, hot verritos, tortillas, and garden burgers. All rations and tapas are made-in-house. Has soy milk for coffee, vegan cupcakes and cakes. Atmosphere is typical area bar. Confirmed closed August 2017.

Trasmiera - The Bar With Extra - Edit
An unusual place which we visited twice during our stay in Santander. A good selection of veggie dishes, which whilst not 'refined' in style or presentation, were really enjoyable and excellent value.
Read moreThe bar is in a busy and slightly run down residential area, about 15 minutes walk out of town from the main train station. It's true that when you arrive you might wonder what you're going to get, given that downstairs is the local bar with the floor covered in shells of sunflower seeds that customers have been eating with their drinks. But the welcome was warm, informal and friendly and the upstairs dining area is done out in a more alternative style.
Well worth a visit in this city which doesn't have many veggie options.
Pros: Friendly informal staff, Good value food options, Somewhere a bit different
Cons: Not so much in the immediate area for tourists

Best vegie burger EVA - Edit
Walking El Camino del Norte makes a vegan powerful hungry and I was ready to endure a bar full of happy men to get food. Once I was seated in the cute tranquil dining room upstairs all my misgivings drifted away. And when the generous and tasty burger arrived I was more than happy. BUT WAIT! There's more! Strawberry tarte! Moist and delicious! I am refuelled and well-ready to find The Way tomorrow and march on! (A note to the comments about meat - I think that was vegan chorizo)
Read morePros: Delicious , Healthy, Relaxed and homey dining room
Cons: Bit far from centre but 4€ by cab!, Blokey bar downstairs , Can't think of any thing else

Amazing Meal - Edit
When you arrive to this place it might scary you because it doesn't seem like you going to eat decently! The place has 2 floors and at the bottom it's a normal cafe / restaurant the serves everything, at the first floor you will find a relaxed and calm place where you can find an amazing menu, with typical spanish food but adapted.
Read moreI had some traditional dishes and it tasted so amazing. The staff was also incredible, explaining everything!
A place to go back for sure!

classic Spanish bar - Edit
Though the walk from the mainstation leads besides some streets where there is much traffic, its worth the try. Because in the bar you get some really delicious spanish vegan food.
Read moreThe Bar itself has not much charm; it's simply a Spanish bar with vegan food.

Delicious Vegan Food In Santander! - Edit
I was extremely happy to find this traditional Spanish tapas bar located just outside of the city. Serving Spanish food as well as having an extensive vegan restaurant-style menu upstairs with good and varied options.
Read moreThe service was friendly and fast and the restaurant area, located upstairs is bright and clean.
I ate the vegan burger, which was amazing. It was homemade, with oats, tofu and mushrooms, in warm bread with lots of salad and a sprinkling of vegan cheese. Just perfect, not too mention the very generous portion of home made Fried potatoes.
The friend I was with (who's not vegan) had the menu del dia which he was very impressed with.
It was two courses which were easily both the size of a main course.
For desert we had vegan chocolate mousse with fresh fruit.
On paying our bill, we were told that a portion of their profits would go to homeless cats and dogs in the city. Having seen so many stray cats and kittens whilst wondering the city we felt this was a truly great gesture.
Any vegans / vegetarians visiting Santander who are put off by the slightly out of town location, don't be! I feel it's definitely worth the walk and I would certainly go again.
Pros: Extensive Vegan Menu , Friendly Staff
Cons: Slightly outside the city

VEGAN IN SANTANDER - Edit
It's not a vegan friendly place. It's a real vegan bar! Don't expect a gourmet restaurant... It's a typical Spanish bar, ugly and dirty. Anyhow, it's worthy to come here cause the food is tasty and cheap. I'm happy there's at least a vegan option in Santander :)

Fabulous - Edit
Busy local bar just outside of the town centre. Serves alcohol, soft drinks and real coffee with soya milk available. There is a blackboard listing at least a dozen vegan meals, mostly Spanish style dishes. We went every night of our mini break in Santander and tried out a few of the available dishes, each one was freshly prepared and delicious and inexpensive. The lady who served us is vegan and the cook is vegetarian. The only evidence of meat was in the salami slices served on the bar alongside other nibbles. A wonderful place for all to enjoy.

Excellent Authentic Spanish Vegan Food - Edit
Bar Trasmiera is located a good 10 minutes stroll from the city centre but well worth the journey. As our Spanish is not good and we were worried about ordering food that might have bits of meat in it, we thought we would make the journey.
Read moreThe bar was typically authentic and traditional, and the clientele was mostly made up of local people who are there to drink, play cards or watch television - many with their small dogs. They were generally a friendly, welcoming crowd although not there to eat the vegan food (they also sell non-vegan food).
The owners were very friendly, and made an excellent attempt to understand us. The food was all cooked fresh and there was a wide variety of choice. What made it really nice was that they had taken traditional Spanish food and tapas and had veganised it.
On the first night we had two different vegan burgers one made out of lentils and one made out of tofu, followed by chocolate brownies and home-made vegan ice cream.
The food was so good we ended up eating there four times during our stay. The next three visits we trusted our hosts recommendations and were not disappointed.
The owners were clearly very compassionate about animals and any tips that we left were put into collection boxes for rescue cats and dogs.
I would certainly recommend Bar Trasmiera to anybody who is looking to try authentic Spanish veganised in food in a non-fancy traditional setting.
Pros: Authentic Spanish Vegan Food, Compassionate friendly staff , Value for money
Cons: Locals not seen eating the tasty food

This place made me register in happycow! - Edit
Oh gosh, this place actually made me register in Happycow to tell people about it. It is just exactly what we were searching: a friendly local atmosphere with good food!
Read moreNot all veggie-travellers have lots of money or are willing to go to a fancy and expensive place too frequently. Bar Trasmiera is a local place where people go to play cards but that also offers very convincing and affordable vegan food.
When we came in we were warmly welcomed and the waitress explained to us all the food options in detail. The food was impressively good and most recipes where typical dishes from the region (in its vegan version). The waitresses were also really friendly and chatted with us about how they started offering vegan food in a normal neighbourhood bar and gave us tips on alternative venues in Santander.
I think this is a great experience and my only concerns would be that I'm not a fan of imitating meat or fish dishes. However, they do it very well!
Pros: Affordable, Very friendly staff!, Great local dishes
Cons: Imitates meat and fish dishes

Neighborhood bar run by vegans - Edit
This is a downscale neighborhood bar where locals of all ages come for a drink and to play cards with their friends. It also has an extensive vegan menu which most of the patrons seem to ignore. I think the owners wish they could be selling more vegan food, but selling drinks pays the rent.
Read moreThere was no English menu when we visited, but the owner had just enough English to explain the options to us. Many of the items on the menu were typical Spanish dishes, adapted to be vegan. Everything was good, though nothing was spectacular. It's a great opportunity to sample local food, and experience a local hangout, without any worries about whether the concept of vegan food got lost in translation, given how passionate the owners are about vegan food.
Pros: Mostly vegan run by passionate vegans, Bargain prices
Cons: Noisy during peak hours , Very dirty floor
