Worth the try! - Edit
Upon the recommendation of the owner of Jiu Liu Vegetarian in Taichung (https://www.happycow.net/reviews/jiu-liu-su-shi-taichung-96892), when we told them we were on our way to Alishan after our breakfast. Nestled down a steep slope away from Fenqihu street and train station, this restaurant's inconspicuous location might explain its absence from popular listings. However, accessing it proved effortless, taking us a mere 5-10 minutes from the main road or train station.
Read moreArriving precisely at the listed closing time of 5 pm, we hesitantly inquired with the amiable elderly owner if we could still dine. To our delight, he not only welcomed us warmly but also presented a menu, allowing us to place our orders by checking off our preferences. The panoramic view from the restaurant, overlooking the majestic peaks and winding curves of the mountain ranges surrounding Fenqihu, added an enchanting backdrop to our dining experience.
Generous portion sizes, catering to 2-3 individuals even for smaller servings, impressed us. Standout dishes included the delectable stir-fried Chayote and Bamboo Shoots, showcasing the culinary prowess of the kitchen. However, the stir-fried noodles fell short of our Southeast Asian palate, leaning towards a milder flavor profile.
Our bill tallied up to around NT$510 (no service charges etc.), considering the late arrival and personalized service. Overall, this dining adventure transcended expectations, offering not just a satisfying meal but also an unforgettable experience in a hidden corner of culinary excellence.
Pros: Beautiful view, Great portion sizes, Locally sourced ingredients
Cons: Limited seating if during peak dining periods
