Quite nice actually! - Edit
We‘ve been here twice - once for some tea and cake in the afternoon and once for dinner. The indian spiced chai came with milk (not mentioned on the menu, although not distinguishing between chai and chai latte is a common practice in Bali we found) so be sure to clarify if you are vegan. This also goes for everything else on the menu except for their specials that change every week since there is absolutely nothing indicating whether a dish is vegan or could be made vegan besides the raw vegan dishes.
Read moreThe raw chocolate pudding pie wasn‘t as good as it looked - the filling was very runny and all you could taste was bananas and dates. It would have been better if it was frozen, that way there wouldn‘t have been the need to have crust all around it (which also messed up the filling to crust ratio). My boyfriend liked his carrot cake (not vegan), although the cream cheese frosting was quite unusual (being used to Rüblitorte rather than American carrot cake). Still, we weren‘t quite happy with this first experience but decided to give them another shot and ooooh boy, they delivered. We got the vegetarian club sandwich and one of their specials (earth bowl with lentils, lettuce, beetroot, apples, sweet potato and roasted pumpkin, sprouts on top). Tastewise I can only speak for the latter, the flavors came together really nicely and the complimentary hummus and sambal made it even more exciting. The portions were also rather big compared to other places and the prices are absolutely reasonable. Still, as delicious as the earth bowl was, it left me wanting more because it was only veggies with some bread on the side.
I would recommend coming here for dinner. Make sure to ask questions about the ingredients and the options you have since basically nothing is labelled properly. You get more food for less money than at other health-driven cafes in Ubud.
Pros: Delicious savory food, Nice ambience and eco friendly, A wee bit cheaper than other cafes
Cons: No clear labels (except raw vegan), Only raw desserts

Huge menu with vegan options - Edit
Very nice place with a gigantic menu that has a lot of vegan options. A bit pricey given the portion sizes, but it’s nice to be able to choose whatever cuisine you feel like. They have a store (Buda mart) around the corner with homemade peanut butter, almond butter, sambal, breads and baked goods, as well as health foods at competitive prices.

Best veggie food in Ubud - Edit
I simply love this place. Food is soooo delicious. Would give 5 stars if HC allowed me. The menu is endless. Wish my stomach was more huge. They explain a lot about their philosophy at their menu, which is a newspaper.
Read moreI loved the place, the staff, the food. You need to go here.
There's a tiny shop too, which is nice and cosy too, but often crowded.

nice place, good cakes - Edit
Really friendly staff, I had the raw tropical cake that was good and my partner had the apple crumble cake(not vegan). His slice was really big and he said that it was delicious. Price ok for what you get.

Relaxing and yummy - Edit
We got vegetarian fried rice (w/o egg) and coconut tofu curry. Both were yummy, but the coconut curry was a bit bland. Kids got grilled cheese and a margarita pizza and both gobbled it down. They also loved the fresh lemonade. Spring rolls were delish, especially dipped in peanut sauce. Cappuccino with almond milk and (coconut?) sugar was a little slice of heaven!

never again - Edit
I wanna make clear that my review is for the restaurant, not for the shop (which I think is great to buy shampoo, soap, kombucha etc).
Read moreStaff is really unfriendly, I feel especially if you aren't dressed fancy. I ordered the eggplant wrap, which they told me is vegan. And surprise it came without eggplant?!? Argh, why could they not tell me that while ordering. Also there was no sauce or so and it was super dry and tasteless. I tried to complain and get a discount, but staff didn't see their mistake and seemed to not care.
Also prices are in general too high for what you get. I'll definitely never go there again!

Disappointed - Edit
This place is very famous and always overcrowded. You can wait a lot for have your food . Staff is not so friendly and food is nothing special . They write on the menu about saving planet or about the environment and they have fish in their menu .

Burnt pizza and watery curry! :( - Edit
My boyfriend and I heard great things about this place so decided to check it out. As a vegan they had quite a few options but I was really disappointed with the curry I ordered and my boyfriends pizza was very overdone. Service was ok. We really wanted to love it but it was a total let down! Maybe we were just unlucky!

No consistancy - Edit
I went here twice, I ordered the pumpkin ravioli, the first time it was delicious. Really, amazing! So I went back and ordered it again. It was awful. It was under cooked and the ravioli were all stuck together as one.

Great juices - Edit
We stopped here for a quick drink, I had the 'beat the heat juice' (beet, celery, cucumber and parsley) and a wheatgrass shot. Good service, nice drinks, the menu looked varied with lots of vegan options.

Lovely restaurant - Edit
This was a lovely restaurant. The food was not the tastiest ever (more spices thank you) and a bit too expensive to eat or drink as much as I wanted. But it has nice atmosphere and interesting and wide menu.

Awesome! - Edit
I love Bali Buddha. It's worth going to Ubud just for Bali Buddha. The smoothies are wonderful - where else can you find cranberry in a smoothie? The food is incredible - so many choices that one visit is simply not enough. The atmosphere is laid-back and peaceful. It's true that it is not 100% vegetarian, but the non-vegetarian items are limited to one small section (part of a page) on their extensive (about 8 pages) menu. My veggie club sandwich a few days ago was so thick I had to eat it layer-by-layer. Very messy, but so what. All part of the experience.

Serves meat, but still divine! - Edit
Bali Buddha is one of those restaurants around the world that serve meat, yet people flock their more for their veg options. the choice is extensive, the food is fresh and delicious and filling, the service is pleasant, and a very quiet unobtrusive ambience away from the main center of Ubud. I had the enchilada that was one of the best I have had. Very reasonable priced for Bali.

Great food - poor service! - Edit
The food in this place is really nice, it is a pity that the service is so bad. We had to wait for an hour for our mains and when they arrived they got it all wrong. If you are prepared to wait and to have some patience this is the place to go.

Fantastic!!! - Edit
When I was last in Ubud (9/2006) my wife and I loved the food so much we probably ate there at least 9 times per week. The place and food was exceptionally clean. Great selection of mostly raw dishes from what I remember. All of them wonderfully pleasing to the palate. A nice blend of western and exotic.
Read moreThere may have been 1 non-veg dish on the menu but I do not remember for sure. Mostly frequented by folks looking for veg/vegan/raw food.
Generally we found the service to be quite fast.
I think we considered this to be our finest dining experience anywhere in the world.
Pros: Open air, upscale traditional, Friendly staff and mellow atmosphere, Good value for great food

A bit of a disappointment - Edit
We had high hopes for Bali Buddha and ate there twice, but were somewhat disappointed with our experiences there. First, the restaurant is not completely vegetarian...they serve chicken, use dairy, etc. Also, we were told by our waitress that the samosas were vegan, only to later read the ingredients label in the market and learn that they are actually made with butter. The atmosphere was a plus and the vegan food that we ate was good, but we were upset by the number of non-vegan and non-vegetarian items on the menu, as well as the misleading information by the waitstaff. The compassion implied by the restaurant's name is underminded by the inclusion of animal products on the menu and seems more for marketing appeal than a wholehearted commitment to non-violence.

Cons: non-vegetarian options, misuse of Buddha's name

I was at Bali Buddha last week and on many marketing leaflets etc. they now write Bali Buda. I don't know if this is just because they can't spell their own name properly ;-) or whether they have understood that using the name of Buddha was maybe not the best thing to do.
