Yummy Indian option in Rotorua 🇳🇿 - Edit
Yummy vegetarian restaurant with clearly marked vegan options. We were starving, so we ended up ordering half the menu — and everything was flavorful and satisfying! The tomato soup stood out with its perfect balance of Indian spices and tanginess, and the dal was also solid and comforting. Would definitely come back if I’m ever in Rotorua again!

Don’t miss this place! - Edit
We’re in Rotorua less than 48 but we’ve eaten here twice already. Dinner last night was the vegan thali, filling and delicious, especially the lentil soup, so we had to come back today for the masala dosa, which also came with a serve of the soup. Oh my lordy! Sublime. Even better than yesterday. Reasonable prices, friendly service. Highly recommended.

Good Indian food, lots of vegan options - Edit
The food here is very good, not amazing/perfect, but definitely worth trying and there’s a lot of vegan options which is awesome, you’ll definitely find something that suits your needs. I ordered spicy food and it could have been spicier, but that’s alright too.

Huge veggie menu - Edit
This place is my go to when dining out or getting takeaway. The menu is extensive, the food delicious, the portion size generous and price very reasonable. I'll give it five stars for all above reasons. Just a couple of things to mention though - make sure to specify vegan even if labelled 'v' on menu as I've found sometimes food comes out garnished with butter/ghee. Also cleanliness could be better.

Great food, great place - Edit
The only problem is their menu is too long. In the end we settled for a BallywagG thali and a stuffed naan. Absolutely delicious especially when chased with a mango lassi.

Solid vegan fare - Edit
It was great to find a vegetarian restaurant in Rotorua, where we didn't expect to have many options. BailwalG has an immense menu of food from all over India and even their iterations of some Asian cuisine. We opted for the bhel puri (a puffed rice salsa dish), corn soup (lots of delicious coriander flavor), aloo mutter with garlic naan (yum), masala dosa (double yum), and a couple of their vegan desserts. Everything was delicious and despite stuffing our faces we didn't feel like it was a heavy meal.

Good place - Edit
Had a veg noodles soup, and I don't if it was because of the time I went there or because I was craving some soup, but it was one of the best soups I've had in a long time. The staff was very nice as well.

BailwalG has a huge menu and we really enjoyed what we chose with the help of our charming, helpful waiter. Definitely the best of the Indian restaurants we have eaten at during our stay in New Zealand!

Lovely light bhaturas - Edit
We enjoyed a very tasty chole bhatura and makki di roti sarson da saag (made with real saag, not spinach). There was a steady stream of customers for late lunch the day we were there. The staff seemed to manage the flow nicely. We would definitely go back and explore some more of the menu.

Lots of options but not a pleasant atmosphere - Edit
A lot of vegan options, cheap and good portion sizes, however, staff weren't particularly approachable and some aspects of the experience, (no napkins, incorrect orders being brought to our table, unclean hands touching cutlery) impacting the overall meal.

Tasty Value - Edit
Really enjoyable lunch with depth of flavour to the Jalfrezi. A good selection of sweets too which I wouldn’t usually try. Trying the Imetri (otherwise know as Jangiri) was recommended by my partner, so I got two. With the lunch deal less than $15!

Chole bhature - excellent. although ratio of chole : bread was skewed (way bigger bhature vs amount of chole). Tried the pani puri too which I would say was pretty average. Vegan options clearly labelled and they are able to make many dishes without onion and garlic too.

Bewildering number of vegan options - Edit
On a bit dog-eared menus in this vegetarian Indian restaurant (Rotorua somehow is lucky in this regard having a few) almost everything is marked V/J, but without a footnote, so I had to ask and the guy said it meant vegan (I deduced J was likely Jain). I had a spicy noodle soup (quite a few soup options which you never see at regular Indian ones) and kind of a big dough pancake/dip into curry thing. Seemed very authentic Indian and it surely it tasted vegan, but just in case you may ask if V means always or an option. An extra star just for having so many options on the menu you'd need some time to study it, but it seemed like you had to do it at the counter even though there was a stack of separate menus piled on it. #Veganuary

A great find! - Edit
I had seen this restaurant but never quite made it inside before. So nice to find a vege/vegan place with a large selection of food. The owner/server was knowledgeable about the food he served, including its health benefits, and obviously cares about his customers. Very reasonable prices too.
