Best Thai Restaurant in Tally - Excellent curries! - Edit
Bahn Thai is the best Thai Restaurant in Tallahassee for taste and value. Bahn Thai has the most flavorful curries, the largest portions, and more veggies in their dishes than the other Thai restaurants in Tally.
Read moreThey just re-opened at their new location: 2531 Apalachee Pkwy, Tallahassee, FL 32301. They are only accepting take out orders right now. I am not sure when they will have dine-in service.
Yes, they only have 5 main dishes that can be made vegan (yellow curry, panang curry, red curry, green curry and drunken noodles) because the cook wants to make the other entrees with fish sauce. However the other Thai restaurants in town don't have a lot of veggies in their curries and the sauces are super bland. It's worth it. Plus they have lots great vegan appetizers - veggie gyoza, avocado spring rolls, vegetable samosas, fried tofu, and vegetable spring rolls.
This photo is take-out on our own plates - yellow curry w/ fried tofu, red curry w/ fried tofu, veggie gyoza and panang curry w/ soft tofu. Note: they don't have rice noodles - I added that at home. All dishes come with rice. Also I asked for mushrooms instead of zucchini for the panang curry.
Pros: Most flavorful curries in Tally, Best value - largest portions of any Thai restaura, More veggies in dishes than other Thai restaurants
Cons: None

Very Limited Veg Choices!! - Edit
The waiter told us that all menu items could not be made without fish sauce with the exception of the curries and a few appetizers. Another reviewer mentioned the masaman curry which is no longer on the menu. I had the samosa appetizer which was $6.99 for 5 of the tiniest samosas I have ever seen. Panang curry was good, but there is an upcharge of $1 if you ask for more white rice.

Kitchen had several vegan options, but not as many as some Thai restaurants due to fish sauce being used. However.... this restaurant has the best masaman curry i have ever had anywhere. Amazing, 5 stars. Yum.

Great Reboot! - Edit
Update: I recently went for dinner for the first time and it was a great experience. While the prices are higher in the evening, the portions are large enough to share. My daughter and I split an order of spring rolls and tofu Panang curry. It was so good and we were stuffed.
Read moreBahn Thai is great again. Thanks to new ownership, I can wholeheartedly endorse Bahn Thai. Each meal is made fresh to order. The red and yellow curries with tofu are my favorites. Asking for mild will give the dish a little kick. I'm not brave enough, but if you want full heat, ask for Thai hot. I go almost weekly - it is definitely one of my new favorite places to go.
Pros: Reasonable lunch prices., Friendly staff, Delicious food

mixed feelings - Edit
I love coming here. the vegan items that are natural vegan- spring rolls, fried tofu- are great. We used to be able to order most items vegan- but the owner doe not like to do it and says it is not authentic Thai, which is what he wants to cook. He says he makes the curry vegan, and will make the pad thai vegan, but that it is actually really hard to cook the noodles vegan. so if you come here, order the items they are willing to make vegan. I told him I will eat whatever he makes vegan and I will continue to come here for spring rolls. But don't expect him to accommodate a vegan diet- it really upsets them, since they want to cook traditional foods. I choose to honor that.

Best Vegitarian Pad Thai - Edit
I love visiting this place for lunch. They offer an $8 lunch special that comes with a little salad and a vegitarian spring roll. The staff makes it's a breeze to order vegitarian options. I'm always satisfied with the portion and how they cook the tofu (options for fried or soft tofu).

Pleasantly Surprised - Edit
After hearing that the food at Bahn Thai had been so-so in the past, we ordered take out without high expectations. The avocado spring rolls were delicious with a large slice of avocado included in each roll. The pad see ew had the right amount of sweetness with some added spiciness. My favorite dish, however, was the Thai ginger with fried tofu. I ordered it spicy, and it was. It has wonderful ginger flavor suffused throughout the dish.
