Hidden in the industrial area around Coburg Velodrome, this hole-in-the-wall bakery and cafe is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Pretty sure they relocated from a delivery only premises in Preston and they've thankfully expanded their vegan options.
Read moreTheir sandwich offers rotate seasonally and sweets seem to change daily. No eggplant and cashew cream when I went, I got a tofu goreng brioche. I bought it mid morning and ate it a few hours later for lunch so it had naturally gotten a little soggy but not ruined. Tofu had a slightly bubbly, chewy, satisfying texture. Satay sauce was creamy and tangy but would've been lifted with more aromatics. The salads were similar to a banh mi, I think I tasted pickled carrot and daikon in there as well as coriander.
No lemon tart (sad face) or tahini cookies today. The vegan sweet options were a GF chocolate cookie or peanut butter and rice crispy, choc-topped slice. Both looked good! I chose the cookie. It looked lumpy and grainy so I hoped it'd be almond meal based, and it was! I personally love that gritty texture and the subtle marzipan flavour it lends. It was studded with rich, dark chocolate chips. Yum!
As I was about to pay, I spied freshly baked English muffins on the shelf so grabbed a couple to take home. They were round and fat and a bit dense. I didn't mind them.
They also had a vegan pastie that I'd like to try next time. A small range but they're a micro-bakery afterall and everything seems lovingly made with a flair for flavour. I'll definitely pop in again.
