Super nice Chilean owner

Super impressed by the whole vegan menu. The owner understands veganism and even makes cakes that are vegan (I’m talking real chocolate layered cake with icing etc).
I see that people had problems in the past with cheese, the vegan quesadilla has been removed from the menu.
The sauces and guacamole are really good.
Prices vary from 28000 Kip to 48000 Kip.

Pros: A whole vegan menu, Cake , Nice owner who speaks Spanish + English

Came for the food and it was alright!

We ordered the empanadas, the Bacan tortillas the Chorrillana.
The empanadas were ok, it was filled with soy protein that didn't taste much. The green sauce was amazing though, we wished we had more.
The 2 tortillas were good but mostly filled with tomatoes green chilies and avocado. It only had a few cubes of tofu that tasted nothing. It was very fresh but I feel like with a decent portion of marinated tofu it would have been next level.
The Chorrillana was ok, we were both disappointed with the taste. My S/O ordered an extra guacamole to help, but it was still missing something.

Overall we were happy to have some south american food but maybe don't order the Chorrillana.

Also at some point it looked like they were about to serve a none vegan dish to another table that ordered a vegan dish. Another employee caught the server before she arrived to the table. All was well in the end, but I'm not sure everybody understand what veganism is.

Pros: A lot of vegan options , Ok price

Cons: No options with beans was disappointing , Confusion around veganism among the staff

Hello,
We believe that you have the answers to your questions... we can solve that lack of flavor in the food that you mention, but you don't eat animal protein... our food is very difficult to veganize, we do our best for offering something similar, but it will never be the same. We only use local products and we do not include expensive vegan spices in our food to offer affordable prices.

We are fully aware of what is vegan, I cannot answer what happened to what you describe about the misunderstanding of the other table, but I do not think it is relevant in your review since it is not clear what you are explaining, since it is not what you ordered.

Thanks for visiting us.

VEGANS BEWARE!

VEGANS BEWARE! I ordered 4 dishes from their Vegan Menu, one being VEGAN quesadalilla, I also asked if they were vegan and I was told yes, after biting into it and swallowing a mouthful, it had cheese inside. Called staff over who confirmed it did. As apologetic and nice as they were, it's unacceptable when ordering from a Vegan Menu, they also still charged me for the quesadilla.

Hi Daniel, we copy paste our answer here as well, please let us know where else...

Dear Daniel, our apologies once again to your case, we recognize that we confused your order with a vegetarian quesadilla for another table, and we solved the problem immediately. The problem with the vegan quesadilla is that it is a dish that cannot be veganized, therefore we have decided to permanently remove it from our menu, so our vegan customers will never have to worry about any mistakes in their order.
I don't think it was the first time you have this problem in Asia, but we are very sorry that it happened to us. And of course we don't charge for the wrong quesadilla, it was our mistake, but you confirmed a second order where we cooked a new vegan quesadilla, which of course you have to pay for... Being kind doesn't cost anything.

Pretty good latin american food and cake

Everything we had was alright, but never insanely good. I think they are a little conservative with the flavor to not scare of customers, which I dont appreciate. The staff was nice and helpful, the food nice but a little bland.

I am, of course, comparing the vegan food at Bacan Cafe to other vegan food i have had in the same style, which has been more tasty:)
Thanks.

same style, but not the same as you say, since we are not a vegan restaurant, and we do not use and will not use all those expensive ingredients to enhance the artificial meat flavors that you would like to taste, we only use local organic ingredients, and I repeat this Food style will never be the same without original ingredients. thanks.

Hello owner
I do not know which artificial meat flavours you are reffering to - i certainly do not use such in my own cooking and "lacking meat flavour" is, by the way, not what I have been commenting on at all, so I do not know why you take it in that direction. I was simply stating my opinion that the food was flavoured a bit conservatively to my taste and that has nothing to do with artifical meat flavour enhancers, witchcraft or orther scapegoats you may point the finger at.
Keep on keeping on

came for coffee, found vegan food

I just wanted coffee, but I discovered they not only have coffee but also vegan food. You can have your coffee with vegan soy or almond milks (no soy+cow milk, actual vegan milks, I checked.) They have a whole section on the back of the menu with vegan/veg items. It seems the owner has a full understanding of veganism, but if I had some of the items with bread I would still double check the ingredients since this is still Asia. Some desserts might be vegan and the staff can point out which ones are available. The staff are great, and when I started asking questions the guy who i think is the owner immediately asked if I had a vegan diet or likewise. Paper and plastic straws are available. This is also a good place to sit with a laptop since they have many power outlets and the WiFi speed is very good.

Pros: great staff, vegan plant based milks, veg menu section

Cons: could be cheaper, but good quality for the price.

So many vegan options

Two pages of the menu are dedicated to vegan options (amazing knowing that what you’re ordering is 100% vegan). Burger and tacos were delicious, really fresh ingredients and good portion sizes. The cakes were also amazing - we tried chocolate and lemon and the chocolate was one of the best cakes I’ve ever had. Just ask which is vegan because they’re not labelled. The people here are so friendly.

Smiles, good food & yummy chocolate cake

Here you know for sure that all you order is vegan, when you let the waiter know you are vegan. The owner/chef ran out of vegan buns for the burger and came to apologize and told us there was an option for a vegan bagel or (kind of) pita instead. The food was all really tasty. The owner also checked if everything was okay with the food (he only did it with us vegans 😉). Definitely try the quasedilla! The flavouring is so good! And ofcourse we could not resist the chocolatecake. It was sooo good. It was just our brunch (slow day) and after the cake i concluded: it has been a good day 💚 So happy with this yummy cake. We ofcourse complimented his wife who makes the cakes. Go and enjoy the cake! And foods.. and coffees..et cetera.

Pros: The owners really do an effort towards vegans , CHOCOLATE CAKE & smiles , Vegan section in the back of the menu

Cons: None

Nice food (CAKES!) and amazing owners

Two pages with vegan dishes on the menu, fruit shakes without milk. Fairly priced. Homemade Latin American and Asian food, the most delicious and homemade cake I had after 3 months of travelling in Asia! We had a long chat with the owners and they are a very welcoming, lovely couple who do everything themselves, amazing! Make sure to visit this place when in Vientiane. In walking distance of the tourist area. From now on also open in the evening during weekends.
Very much recommended!!

Pros: Cakes, nice and cool interior, lovely owners!

TRY THE CHOCOLATE CAKE!

I came across this cafe on here and gave it a go after the coffee and cake at Coco & Co left me unsatisfied.
This place has two whole pages in the menu dedicated to vegan dishes which includes a smoothie bowl, tortillas, a burger, stir fries, salads and lots more.
They also do a small or large latte with soy or almond milk. But what you really need to come here for is the cake!
Be aware that the cakes are not labelled vegan so you will need to ask. This was a conscious decision by the owner as he didn't want to put non-vegans off from trying them. I came here twice so I tried two cakes which I believe are the typical ones available. One is a coconut bundt cake (very good) and the other is a chocolate cake which is pure chocolate heaven!! It is a slice of rich, smooth, chocolate lover's dream. Best thing I have tasted in Laos and anywhere at all for some time.
You simply MUST try it. Great spot for nomads with Wi-Fi and extra seating upstairs and outside.
Although it is not fully vegan this really is a must-visit do not visit Vientiane without coming here.

Amazing vegan options, awesome staff

I loved this place! It is such a gem in VTE. So many vegan options really, just ask the staff and they will point out so many to you. Several appetizers, mains and desserts! I had the tacos and they were so legit! Best tacos I've had in Asia for sure. And then I go the vegan lemon-coconut cake to go and it was to die for, super moist and delish. Thought the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgable, prices were good and location was easy to find.

Pros: So delicious, several vegan options, great staff

Delicious vegan cake and lovely owners ♥️

We had Apple pie which came directly from the oven and it was really really good! We even bought two more to take away.. The owners are very lovely people, we had good conversations (perfect english) and they gave us really useful tips for our stay in vientiane.. They still serve meat and dairy products but try to make more and more vegan dishes so go there and support the development towards a vegan menu hehe😄

Pros: Yummy food, nice atmosphere and very lovely owners
