Service is horrible - Edit
I came here last year and wanted to try the black bean burger. We got seated and were the only ones in the restaurant. We waited and no one came to take our order. Two other tables got seated after us and already got their food. We said something to the waiter and he said we had a different waiter. We ended up leaving after waiting for about an hour. This year I decided to try again and order to go. You have to order at the bar and she said it would be 25 minutes. We came back after 25-30 minutes got ignored for a while, then she said she would go check on it and proceeded to clean the whole bar first. It was over an hour before I got my order. I ordered the fire roasted guacamole and there was no jalapeños or cilantro in it like it was supposed to.

Wow! Quality food! - Edit
My husband and I ate here both nights in Manteo. We ordered the flaming guac for an appetizer. I had the vegan Caesar salad with blackened tofu, and he got blackened tofu tacos. The next night, we both ordered the black bean burger. They have vegan cheese. All of the food was so flavorful! This is a must-visit place for vegans and their non-vegan friends/family.

Cons: A side of pico that was a thimble size was $1.50. , Otherwise, pricing was fair for the portions., Odd hours. . .check before heading over.

Super tasty - Edit
Definitely recommend trying this place! It’s nice that they have a few vegan options and can accommodate gluten free if that is needed. The Hay Point kombucha is super good and definitely would recommend

We drove here as we were looking for vegan options. The menu looked good on Happy Cow and the location is awesome. Only problem is they are only open from 11:00 to 4:00!! Seriously??

Delicious for one, less perfect on the other. - Edit
I had the bean burger with sautéed mushrooms, onions and vegan cheese - delicious and filling. The onion rings were perfect and crispy.
Read moreMy wife had the hippy vegan burger, which was good except the roasted red pepper tapenade was extremely oily which made the whole sandwich oily :-(
Nice outdoor seating and nice staff. Not a ton of vegan options, but the house made bean patties were tasty.
Pros: Lovely outdoor seating option, Great fries and onion rings, Vegan items clearly marked
Cons: Didn’t drain oil off roasted red peppers, Not a bunch of vegan options , Closes at 4pm

Something For Everyone - Edit
We had a great experience here. Avenue Waterfront Grille has something for everyone. I prefer to dine at fully vegan or raw restaurants, but when traveling sometimes need to compromise. There were some decent vegan options on the menu and the staff was friendly and happy to make adjustments to make it such a pleasant experience. I had the Shala Shala salad, which was the perfect portion size for a hungry girl😉and my man and I shared the Fingerling Potatoes [minus the creme fresh] appetizer. House made Ginger Soda was yummy too! The service was great and love the location - enjoyed a beautiful walk around the waterfront after dinner. Craving that Shala Shala salad so I will definitely be back!

Good veggie burger :) - Edit
I ordered the “The New Hippie” burger. The patty itself was pretty average, but the bread it came with was really amazing! They also had vegan cheese, which I’ve always found to be a rarity. They also had other vegan options like guac and chips, a salad, and lots of ways to veganize other meals.

Good vegan option of black bean burger with vegan Cole slaw and red pepper spread, called the New Hippie. Guac dip is also vegan but they were out of avacados when we went

Great find! Vegan tacos! - Edit
Very nice spot and really friendly and helpful staff. Ordered the crispy vegan tofu tacos with a side of guacamole. It was not super clear on the menu but asked about best vegan options. Had live music outside - great evening. The ice cream place in the same square had 1 vegan option - strawberry sorbet, which was fantastic! You will see the shop on your left when you go up the stairs, I'm sorry I can't remember the name.

I was shocked at all of the vegan options available at this restaurant. Everything made fresh in house. I had the hippie vegan burger which was so good with added sautéed onions and vegan cheese, bread was soft. Not your average boring veg burger. They also had guacamole, tacos and pizza that you could make vegan. Would return

Fantastic! I had the hippie burger and hubby had the Port BBQ. 5* for sure! - Edit
Have you ever tried to scarf down your food so your spouse won’t want a bite? Halfway through our meal we both realized we were doing the same thing. Neither of us had commented on our food, a highly unusual occurrence. We cracked up when we realized why.😄Onion rings were on point on the side!

Good app, meh entree - Edit
I got the hummus as an app and that was AMAZING, so yummy and a huge portion with tons of pita points. I could have had that just as my meal. I got the fish tacos made vegan with crispy tofu, and it was meh. The tofu and tortilla were the same texture so it was like eating a very thick tortilla. I just didn’t eat them. The fries that came with it were nice though, crispy outside and soft inside. I didn’t try the burger, but the bbq is mushrooms and not jackfruit so as a non-mushroom fan that wasn’t an option for me. I’d be interested in trying the burger, but my standard for eating out is more than just a burger because most places have a veggie burger option now and I don’t always want a burger ya know?

Great view - Edit
We tried the vegan burger and the bbq portabello sandwich. Both were simple and tasty. Could've used a little more sauce. Fries were perfect. They also have vegan pizza and a vegan dessert, but didn't get to try either. Staff was extremely friendly and atmosphere was great. Would definitely go back.

Vegan BBQ and burger! - Edit
I had the burger and my husband had the 'pulled port' (lol) sandwich. Both were awesome! The fries were really good too. Vegan and veg items are clearly marked on the menu (even the wine menu!) They also have a gluten free option for the burger (and maybe the BBQ too, I can't remember). Lots of options for a seafood type restaurant! Beautiful view and atmosphere.

Many vegan and gf options: loved the Shala Shala salad, Fingerling "fries" with hummus, crispy tofu corn tacos, hippee veggie burger, blueberry kombucha, gluten free pizza crust, and last but definitely not least the donut holes with maple & pomegranate syrup. Homemade goodness!! Our non vegan/gf friends also enjoyed their meals. Will be back!

Tons of options for vegans and vegetarians! Their menu states everything that is vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free and tells you how to order it to make it that way (even the options that originally aren't vegan) ! It was a really great experience and they even had vegan donuts which were bomb AF

Wow! Should be 5 stars! - Edit
I never write reviews, but loved Avenue Waterfront so much that I feel I have to share. I came here with my non-vegan/vegetarian parents and we all loved it! Beautiful view and great service, everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. The owner, who is vegan, introduced herself and chatted for a bit about the restaurant and its history. She owns it with her husband, a meat eater, so there is something here for everyone. I had the Shala Shala salad, Tuna Sushi Style with crispy tofu, and Donut Holes for dessert. All vegan and super yummy! Gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options are clearly marked on the menu.

Two Thumbs Up for the Hippie & Root Beer! - Edit
The restaurant is owned by a vegan (and her husband is the chef), so there are more vegan options here than at other restaurants in the area. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free items are clearly marked on their menu. I loved the Hippie burger and locally brewed root beer -- yum! Pretty location on the water and friendly staff. Highly recommended! I'd give this 5 out of 5 stars if Happy Cow would let me.

Amazing food in the OBX! - Edit
We are so happy this place exists--it is wonderful! The owner and the staff are so welcoming and the food is so delicious! The vegan selections are clearly marked and there are many from which to choose. A couple of our favorites are the Smashed Potatoes with Hummus (appetizer), the crispy tofu tacos, or the homemade Hippie Burger. The waterfront location is ideal, too. They have a nice patio and when weather permits we love to bring our dog and sit outside. Such an OBX gem!
