Mezze home cooking style - Edit
Aunty Salwa's is one of the best places in Hamra for lunch. To me, Salwa and her chefs make some of the best Lebanese food served in restaurants: it's fresh and savoury and has lots and lots of taste. On weekdays, you can get a lunch plate with I think 5 or 6 different dishes for about $7. Most of the food is vegan or vegetarian, as are many of Lebanon's mezze dishes. They make lovely hindbeh, which is greens cooked with lemon and garlic plus roasted sweet onions. The kebbeh, which is a typical local dish made from bulgur stuffed traditionally with meat but in it's vegan form may have nuts, chickpeas, chopped greens or pumpkin. Aunty Salwa's also serve the traditional "bel-zeit" dishes, which literally means "with oil" and is the preferred way of cooking vegetables and beans. You can order okra, green beans or aubergine cook this way. The staff is lovely too!
Cons: closed on weekends and evenings
