Fantastic Asian food - Edit
I love the variety on the menu here. The maki, dumplings, curry, stir fries and som tam were all fantastic and I would definitely go back to try other dishes. Great location near the start of the Sunday walking street. Prices are reasonable for Chiang Mai.

Great food and atmosphere - Edit
Been in Chiang Mai for 9 days, been to Aum almost every other day.
Read moreGreat homemade food (with vegan options): papaya salad and blue rice combo; red curry; pineapple fried rice. Refreshing juices and smoothies.
The upstairs sitting area is a bit rough around the edges but that's what gives the whole place its charm. Super nice staff.

Not sure what all of the fuss is about... - Edit
We went to Aum tonight as we'd seen so many great reviews and someone had recommended the burger to us.
Read moreI ordered a soy mango lassi which was lovely and the burger with chips. I was really disappointed to discover the burger appears to be just one you could buy at any shop to heat up yourself. The patty was also really, really small. To top it off I had about 10 chips. If I'm going to pay just under £4 for a burger and chips I expect a homemade burger and more than 10 chips!
The soy lassi and cool seating arrangement upstairs redeemed it somewhat. Perhaps their Thai food would have been a better option.
Pros: Soy lassis , Cool surroundings upstairs
Cons: (Western) food doesn't appear homemade , Small portions

What a great place for vegetarians and vegans within the old city walls! Excellent menu of traditional and western food. Option to sit at tables with chairs or on the floor with cushions and lower tables. Good value for money and super service.

Cute atmosphere. Cozy floor seating with cushions. The food was really tasty! We went 2 nights in a row for the vegan dumplings. They were amazing! Service can be a little slow, but the food is worth it.

Enjoyed it - Edit
Had a beet root juice – which was so purple it was almost black. Pretty sure I'm stocked on nitrates for 2017. Shared a steamed ginger tofu, which was mild but good. Then had the steamed veggies salad which comes with a black sesame dressing. This was awesome. Try it if you're tired of spice. Lots of flavour without the chilli. We sat upstairs on the pillows. Wifi signal is strong.

Rustic but nice Thai asian fusion - Edit
The food is good with traditional Thai, and other asian cuisine. My favorite is some crispy deep fried leaves, sounds weird but tastes lovely. They do a nice cashew nut sushi, fried gyoza style dumplings, tofu laab and fresh spring rolls with nice shakes.

Pros: amazing crispy leaves, centrally situated, it's good sample of food of the region

Sad we didn't come earlier! - Edit
We had been in Chiang Mai for two weeks and finally on our last night decided to give this restaurant a try. To be honest, the place smells and looks bit dirty or maybe it's just old. Anyway, it was nicer to sit upstairs and the service was quick and friendly. And the food: amazing. We took papaya salad, fresh spring rolls and stir fried pumpkin with no oil, and they all tasted so good. Definitely should have tried Aum earlier.

Delicious Dinner - Edit
We had our last meal in Thailand at Aum. The menu is clear but the staff did not speak any English so we were a bit confused, there is apparently an upstairs and the food, cutlery, etc, came out in a rather random order. The selection was wide, food delicious and service quick.

gooood clean food - Edit
I just ate the steamed veggie salad, steamed sweet potatoes, and avocado maki, and after months of oily food in Asia, my tummy and my skin are so happy. They have greasy stuff too though so don't worry if that's what you're into :) really friendly staff too.

nice vego restaurant opposite Thapae Gate - Edit
family operated vego restaurant with heaps of vegan options ... staff speak basic English, are friendly and will assist with food choices ... there is an upstairs area (must take off shoes) ... I have been going to Aum over a 3 year period and found the food to be good in both quantity and quality and the pricing moderate

We ordered some nice vegan food and it tasted well. Still not very exciting, but OK. The people seem not very happy with their work.. and the toilet is very dirty.

Great thai salads - Edit
I had a great salad made of mushrooms and my spouse had salad with eg. green eggplant (they weren not those small thai eggplants, more like European dark eggplant). Both salads tasted great. They were thai-style and well seasoned.
Read moreSince the review above I´m been to Aum so many times and I haven´t been disappointed. Their prices are good, food is good (especially I like salads) and the location is great just next to Thapae Gate. It´s just so hot inside sometimes, but sure air-con would mean more expensive prices.
Remember to order Khao soi vegan, without egg noodles. Khao soi there is a bit too sugary to my taste (khao soi needs to be sweet curry).

best vegan food chiang mai - Edit
Hands down the best vegan restaurant I went to in Chiang Mai. Everything is so fresh and healthy that I could order tons of different dishes and still be hungry (which is a good thing so i could try more things.) Love the fresh rolls, papaya salad, pumpkin and seaweed salad makis, mango sticky rice and the blue rice. This is a must for vegans in Chiang Mai.

disappointing - Edit
Heard a lot of good things about this place but was sadly disappointed by both the service and food here. One member of staff in particular was very rude and unhelpful. Food wasn't great either and was left with food poisoning afterwards.. If from AUM I don't know..

Authentic and tasty food - Edit
Very healthy and fresh food, uses whole grains like brown rice. One thing that we found was that fried dumplings was floating in oil, I know it's fried but maybe it would be nicer without the excess oil.

not so great anymore - Edit
A few years ago I went there with friends nearly every evening to have a smoothie and a large green vegetable salad. Staff was always really friendly and shortly even remembered our names, which made it really nice and personal. They even made us a bigger salad for a small extra charge.
Read moreWent there back yesterday, but wasn't too impressed anymore. The quality of the salad was not that great (greens didn't seem that fresh and there was some avocado peel in my salad) and it looked pretty unappealing when it came go my table. The burger was good but a bit dry and not worth 90baht. The service that was once was so great was now kind of rude and which a mentality of "I don't care".
Aum, you can do better than that!
