Serves meat, vegan options available. A semi-upscale, healthier food restaurant in Bucharest's Old Town. The menu has a number of vegetarian and vegan items, and staff is able to answer questions about ingredients. The size of the dishes vary, so ask. The interior has some doors salvaged from abandoned buildings in the area. Open Mon-Sun 12:00-00:00.

Awesome Vegan food in Bucharest - Edit
A restaurant with a dedicated menu for vegans. We had a happy pot vegan aubergine, truffle oil hummus and a lentil salad. Top notch quality!!!

Aubergine - vegan food - Edit
There were many vegan dishes, from main courses to side dishes and appetisers, but not so many vegan deserts, so they could work on that. But the place is very nice and the people were welcoming! I recommend it!!

Muchas opciones para elegir. - Edit
Muchas opciones veganas para elegir, también un postre. Comida deliciosa y sana. No le pongo 5 estrellas porque la aplicación no deja ponerlas si el sitio no es vegano del todo.

Cosy interior, not cheap - Edit
Staff spoke English and Menu was available both in Romanian and English.
Read moreWhen ordering, the waiters didn't seem to be particularly well organised. We were asked, while still visibly browsing the menu, if we were ready. The person on the table next to us was asked twice within a minute by different waiters if they were ready to order, while also still visibly looking through the menu.
The interior is well made and cosy.
I had the vegan eggplant dish and my friend had a hummus plate.
The eggplant tasted alright. I enjoyed the different sauces on top. The hummus was very creamy, perhaps too much even. But the taste was good. Both dishes were relatively small and I would have appreciated larger portions.

Out favourite meal in Bucharest - Edit
By far the tastiest meal we had in Bucharest, unfortunately it was our last night there otherwise we would have gone again. Menu is on a tablet so you could click on vegan and it narrowed the menu down to vegan options.
Read moreWe chose the vegan platter and mushroom in a tomato cream sauce with rice. Both astounding meals, so flavourful and lovely presentation.
Also fantastic service and a lovely restaurant decorated with old doors.

Excellent, very tasty - Edit
I loved that there were dishes I can't find somewhere else or cook at home regularly (we're all too familiar with pasta, burgers, grilled veggies)- so the uniqueness was the best part. And there were enough interesting vegan options. #Veganuary

Vegan-friendly option in the old town. - Edit
We tried the vegan platter to share and it was quite yummy.
Read moreWe also tried the vegan shaksuka
The tomato sauce was very tasty but it was disappointing to just have three chunks of tofu. Too small for the price.
The service was great and the place was nice and cosy.
Pros: A few vegan options, Tasty

so-so - Edit
tried the vegan shaksuka - disappointed to find out it's 3 small pieces of raw tofu drenched with good indeed tomato sauce, and the vegan shawarma - very creative yet consisted of few chunks of soy (i think) and eggplant as the "shawarma". It was nice, not more.
Read moresmall portions.
also disappointing - fresh orange juice charged at 25 lei, whereas one of the main courses was 35. They also added 10% tip to the bill while the service was hardly accomodating.
all in all vegan food can be so much better.
Pros: many vegan options , trying hard to be creative
Cons: raw tofu considered a subtitute for shakshuka..., small portions , exaggerated price of juice, lacking service

Uhm, I had such a great meal here. We went to eat dinner and had some different dishes. It's a good place to eat tapas without spending too much. 👌
Read moreWe ordered the vegan plate (small), fried eggplant with tahini, mashed sweet potato, a plate with mushrooms and hummus and a basket with bread. I would have loved to try more of their dishes with veggies, but we couldn't eat more.
I would really recommend the vegan plate and fried eggplant, it was very delicious. 😍🍆
The bread was uninteresting and at first we got regular mashed potato, but then we told them what we ordered and got the sweet potato instead.
The restaurant is pretty cosy, situated in one of the busy and touristic streets in the old town, but it has its own charm anyway.

We went to Aubergine hungry. First problem you have to pick up: everything in the Menu with the green V Sign is vegetarian. Everything marked with a green leaf is supposed to be vegan.
Read moreThey have Hummus chicken on the Menu, marked as Vegan. When I asked them about this the answer you get is: „no it’s not vegan, it’s chicken.“
So better watch out what you order.
The food is okay.
Pros: If you like mushrooms that’s your thing, Interior is nice, especially upstairs , They speak english
Cons: Can’t trust the menu and the labels

Loveless food - Edit
Unfortunately we didn’t have a good experience at Aubergine (we were very hopeful after reading the good reviews here at Happy Cow). The salad was extremely spare (only salad with 4 pieces of feta and aubergine), the pita bread was old and the vegan shaksuka was like Indian tomato sauce with large tofu chucks. The service was also very unfriendly. We had to wait quite a while and the were very abrupt and a tip was almost forced. Advice for the waiters, be friendly and smile for a tip….

Perfect vegan food - Edit
This small restaurant became my favorite place in Bucuresti from the first bite. I would eat there every day. The food kisses you from the inside ❤️ The only thing that concerns me - some dishes they serve in aluminum tableware, that is not the healthiest option, though it looks nice. So if you don’t wish to use this kind of tableware, you should ask for a regular plate.
