Just ok

Asters is… just ok. The food itself is pretty good, but so simple I could make them at home (and do). $17 for a very simple meal on a paper plate is just not appealing to me. I’d rather put the meals together myself at home.

Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu, which is nice.

I had a breakfast plate the first time I came here and the scramble was very soft and pretty spicy, but yummy. I wish there was a bigger portion. I think it’s already seasoned with the green salsa, so I wouldn’t recommend paying extra for salsa unless you like really spicy food. The vegan seed bread it came with was dry and seemed really not fresh. It was pretty disappointing. I didn’t take a picture of this meal unfortunately.

The second time I came, I got the hummus plate. The hummus and bread seemed fresh and homemade. The other ingredients were pretty simple and raw. It was tasty and more filling than the scramble dish, but the price is just too high for me to want to come back.

I did really like the friendliness towards kids. They have some crayons and coloring books there and we were offered a cookie for the little one, though we politely declined because they didn’t have any vegan baked goods.

Pros: Clearly marked vegan options, Homemade, Friendly service

Cons: Expensive , Paper plates, Dishes are too simple

Hummus bagel for breakfast

Really cute joint with friendly staff, we had the hummus everything bagel with tomato and cucumber.. probably the best bagel I’ve ever had. Super salty and garlicky, such a great option! They also have oat milk for coffee

I rarely leave negative reviews.

The guy at the front was beyond condescending. So outstandingly rude. Do not recommend unless you get off on being spoken down to...

Cons: Rude employee

👍🏼

Upon my numerous and most remarkable sojourns across the vast expanse of the continental United States, traversing from sea to shining sea, I have had the distinct privilege of partaking in the offerings of many an establishment, yet never, I daresay, have I encountered one so wholly exceptional in its culinary refinement and unparalleled service. The like of this establishment, in its devotion to the art of dining and hospitality, remains unequaled in my experience.

I had the fortune of meeting a man whose presence was nothing short of a revelation. His name was Phoenix, and it was he who, with the most gracious and unassuming of smiles, demonstrated that this hallowed place was not merely a provider of sustenance to the body, but a sanctuary for the soul. His warm and genial countenance, imbued with an unmistakable sincerity, belied the modesty of his station, and in his company, the wearied traveler might find not only nourishment for the body, but solace for the spirit.

Indeed, it became abundantly clear that this establishment, with its elegant surroundings and attentive service, was far more than a mere refuge for the hungry—it was a veritable oasis, a hallowed retreat where weary souls, burdened by the relentless and treacherous journey that is the human condition, could find a temporary reprieve from the vicissitudes of life. Here, one could partake not only in exquisite fare but in the warmth of human kindness, that rarest of gifts, which has the power to restore and uplift the heart.”

Pros: Good

Cons: None

Would have loved to try their bagels

Unfortunately by the time we got there just an hour after they opened they were out of their vegan bagels and they wouldn’t allow me to get a vegan sandwich instead because it wasn’t lunch. Luckily they had a farro salad on special that was available and could be made vegan. It was alright but had a little too much dressing.

Pros: Housemade items , Fresh , High quality

Cons: Limited quantities , Crowded, Not accommodating

Charming and limited

We went for breakfast/brunch. Only two vegan sandwich options- sourdough bagel with avocado, tomatoes and cucumber or basically the same with hummus. We had the first and it was good, and what I based my rating on. They also had oatmeal made with oat milk.

There were no vegan pastries. They do sell their sourdough loaves, which we were hoping for.

Pros: Make their own sourdough bread, Sell the loaves of sourdough bread

Cons: Only two “breakfast” sandwich options on the menu, No vegan pastries

Good flavors

While looking for baked goods, I lucked into finding this bistro with vegan options in this small Texas town. I bought the roasted vegetable sandwich (served on vegan bread) minus any cheese/dairy and it was delicious. I also ordered freshly-made apple-beet-ginger juice and a kale salad to go. Enjoyed those, too!

Pros: Multiple dishes can be made vegan, Freshly-made juices!, Helpful staff

Cons: Smallish portions for the prices..., ...but this IS a tourist town.
