⚠️ Dangerous for Vegans and People With Food Allergies - Edit
After being loyal customers for over two years, we will never come back.
Read moreWe visit Isla Mujeres several times a year and have supported this café during almost every trip. We spent our money here, brought friends here, and genuinely wanted to support the business. That is exactly why this experience was so disappointing.
We waited a long time for our food and repeatedly explained our dietary restrictions in both English and Spanish. We clearly stated multiple times that we are vegan and cannot consume dairy products. The staff nodded, assured us they understood, and took our order.
After all that, they still brought us food containing cheese and dairy.
I had already taken a bite and eaten some of it before realizing their mistake. For some people this may be an inconvenience. For others with allergies or medical conditions, this could be dangerous. When customers specifically explain their dietary restrictions several times, there is absolutely no excuse for ignoring them.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the café is full of vegan books, vegan messaging, and animal-friendly decorations. The entire place gives the impression that they understand veganism and care about it. Apparently they do not even understand the most basic requirement: do not serve dairy to someone who specifically asked for a vegan meal.
Vegans should know that there are very few actual vegan options here. No tofu, very limited choices, and apparently no reliable system to make sure orders are prepared correctly.
People with food allergies or intolerances should be especially careful. The staff may smile, nod, and tell you they understand, but that does not mean your food will arrive as ordered.
The worst part was not the long wait. It was realizing that despite explaining our restrictions multiple times in two languages, nobody paid enough attention to get the order right.
There are much better cafés literally a few steps away that understand what vegan means, respect customers’ dietary requirements, and offer far more vegan options.
After more than two years of supporting this place, this experience completely destroyed our trust. We will never return and cannot recommend this café to vegans or anyone who relies on their food being prepared correctly and safely.

Decent option! - Edit
Menu is clearly marked with vegan and vegetarian options, but vegan options are only a few. The staff member who served me was well aware what veganism is - asked me if I was vegan when I asked for a grain bowl without cheese. The portions are very generous but food was a bit bland. Service is friendly

Amazing - Edit
Amazing! We enjoyed the veggie Chana, Asian wok, and macrobiotic grain bowls. Then a scoop of coconut ice cream which was very rich and good to share. Our favorite vegan meal so far!

Our first stop on the island had refreshing food and a chill atmosphere. Service was a bit slow, had to ask for napkins and our bill at the end.

Just pretends to be vegan friendly - Edit
Not vegan friendly, unfortunately.
Read moreI went here for breakfast because I saw they had several vegan items add-ons on their menu (vegan cheese and chorizo), but unfortunately most dishes still can't be made vegan as both the sour dough bread and the bagen contains animal products. So even a avo toast is not vegan. They also don't let you swap cheese (which is 50 pesos) for vegan chorizo (which also is 50 pesos). So even if you remove one item for another, you have to pay the extra fee for the vegan substitutes.
Dinner here is was great, though. I had the wok with tofu.

Veganer bagel covered in dairy chees - Edit
I orders a vegan bagel with vegan chorizo. The bagel was covered in dairy cheese and was not even fresh at all. The coffee was served in beer glasses which I didn’t like. Smoothie bowl and chia pudding was okay but nothing special. Very expensive for war you get. Better options on the island.

Nice choice for vegans, fresh ingredients and healthy options! - Edit
Great spot for a late breakfast/lunch! I got the Wok Asiático bowl and the ingredients were super fresh. The service was great and a lot of vegetarian options could be altered to cater for vegans (on top of the other vegan options available).

Super nice restaurant - Edit
I visited in 2018 and visited again twice in Jan/25. It is still an adorable place to eat. The menu has improved and it is better labeled. I had a wok bowl with tofu and another bowl with rice and vegetables. Few years ago I ate the falafels and drank juices. They have more vegan options available. The staff was super friendly. We would like to eat here again.

Will not go again - Edit
After reading all these good reviews we decided to go to Aroma Isla. As mentioned, there is a lot of choice for vegan/veg options and we ordered 2 different bowls, which basically turned out to be the same. Too salty and oily for our taste, but edible and decent. What wasn’t decent was the service. Basically nonexistent. 2 young servers who we had to flag down for everything. Even then they did not respond. My husband had to go up to the counter to ask “the manager” and he rang a bell to get the servers attention. Not because it was busy…by 8:30 pm we were the only people there. Too bad because the restaurant is nice with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and numerous choices. They need new staff clearly.

Don’t think this warrants 2 stars. The place is phenomenal and only one of a couple of veggie restaurants on the island. Having been there three times now I couldn’t agree less with this comment I have to say ✌🏻

Cosy restaurant with traditional vegan options - Edit
In Isla mujeres, lots of restaurant only have vegetarian options. But in this restaurant you can find for breakfast and for lunch vegan options on the menu! I had the tacos al pastor in vegan variation, with tofu, which was a nice alternative to the meat variation! The "pastor" marinade was harmonizing with the tofu pieces and the veggies made it refreshing!

taste was ok at first. lots of soy sauce. after a few bites unfortunately rather boring.
my husband’s lasagna was tiny and so crunchy, he couldn’t even cut it.
thankfully, he could exchange it for a burrito which he said was good.

Buena comida vegana y pésimo servicio - Edit

Such a lovely spot on a very happening street. The food and ambiance were so good we stayed for hours. Saw a street performance and enjoyed yummy vegan ice cream for dessert. Everything we ate was worth eating again! Highly suggest a stop here.

Okay if you’re not looking for anything special - Edit
Probably made a mistake having taco at a restaurant which has influences from so many other kitchen, as the taco was quite blend compared to others I had in Mexico. Did however appreciate that it came with tofu instead of just julienned vegetables, as in most other places. Good location and okay prices. Many options available.

Okay - Edit
Went here twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. The lunch was great, had the falafel pita which was good (but in my opinion overpriced). The waiter was really nice. Then for breakfast I ordered a hummus sandwich where you could choose either vegan or real cheese and I stated clearly (and in Spanish) that I wanted the vegan cheese, yet I think they gave me the real thing… I still ate it anyway cause I wasn’t sure that it wasn’t vegan cheese, nowadays you can get really good vegan alternatives, but in the end I’m pretty sure it wasn’t vegan because of the consistency…
